Carolina Krayts is the best X-Wing podcast

Internet- Ensnare is some uncounterable auto win bull.

Players- All start using Ensnare.

This is why the world is burning and our civilisation rushes towards its doom.

Internet- Ensnare has made X Wing not worth playing.

Me- Played 16(?) games since Nantex was released. Not played against a single Nantex.

Everything is fine.

Nothing unusual. I played already 2 tournaments since Wave 5 and didn't faced single Nantex. There were some around but had no luck. I wonder if I play one before Worlds? ;)

So has anyone considered running seismic charges and simply blowing up the rocks that Separatists so desperately want to tractor you on and alternatively hide their droids? Almost makes me wish TS wasn't costed out of the game. Just a thought.

Deathrain is looking better and better. He was already an amazing area denial piece that I felt you can get value out of.

It's just what to put with him.

Doesn't help hyperspace though

Meanwhile I played against 10 nantex in my first 4 games when 5 was released and I haven't played since.

As usual: "Can't be bad because it didn't happen to me"

The argument is that a good player with Ensnare destroys fun for everyone he's playing against.

The (small) difference to Han is that our Ensnare player has to be good. Small because that was also the case for Han to some degree

I’m not sure the Ensnare player has to be good. I think even “just OK” players can cause problems.

We might mean the same thing, I just already call it 'good' and you don't. It's hard to tell, but it requires a basic understanding of the win condition and maneuver relations, plus the ability to put that into action. Han required less skill because he had to decide after everyone already moved, while Sunfac can not literally change his chosen maneuver. It's a small difference, but maybe worth pointing out.

Yeah, we might agree. I think a lot of OK players can do that, just not consistently correctly. With the Nantex, I was finding that you didn’t need to be correct the first time, because you can fix things pretty readily by putting your arc in the right place and moving tokens. The burden of execution was way lower than I expected for a 3 agi 4 hp ship.

I originally thought these guys might be analogous to Strikers, but with a few games under my belt that doesn’t really seem to be true.

Is this what the Nantex has brought us to? Miranda/Dash in 20-****ing-19?

Is it better if I’ve had second thoughts and bring Kylo double Ups?

Naw.

I mean, Miranda/Dash in the Nantex meta has kind of an ironic coolness to it, that's why it's fun to say "Look what the Nantex has brought us to!"

Kylo/Ups/Ups is just a meta list from like two months ago.

Hey Kids,

Don't forget other lists exists!

This has been a Krayt PSA™!

Yeah, there are other cool lists like Sear + 7 or Nantex + 6-7 or even things that aren't CIS if you don't care about winning ;)

Fake news. There can be only one true meta list. Just look at all the widely believed facts on the internet.

Actually, that's been half the fun. Trying to prep for swarms, jedi, Imp Aces, and bugzilla. I'll let you know if I figure something out. (hint: I will guess and will largely be wrong)

Did anything else kinda bonkers come out of wave 5? Snap Shot talk has died down, but that card is rough. Snap Shot Pure Sabaac has cost me more games than a Nantex so far.

Um, real lists that people both 1) enjoy, and 2) that win:

Jedi + anything

Sinker swarm

CIS swarms ([almost] any variant)

Apparently random kylo lists? because force and 3 agility?

Imperial Aces, because high initiative is a good strategy

that Pretty cool Koshka, 4LOM list from Europe that no one seems to want to talk about, becaus they they think ketsu is really cool.

These are actually real lists, and to think that sun fac will be more than 5% of the entire swiss is probably a folly (and group think).

Edit for later readers:

Resistance 5A

Finn+ good stuff

Torkil/Seevor swarms

Edited by Tlfj200

Look - the nantex is busted. If you're going to worlds, and want to win, *and enjoy it* - play it.

But be real with yourself - you probably enjoy more things than just that. So do other people. We are not hyper rational actors. People will play other lists.

Also adding resistance 5A, and Finn+ lists to the above "good stuff" lists that do well.

I agree and I eagerly await the person coming back from world's saying you were wrong and all they faced were Nantuckets

Fat Han is probably still good, double deci, Torkil/Seever/3Ks will all probably show up too.

Still calling that Sun Fac won't top 8 worlds. It's just like Handbrake Han: A tournament quality list that won't necessarily win all the things but is so aggravating to play against that it makes people want to quit.

You should definitely have a game plan against Sun Fac, and it probably shouldn't be "I'll just dodge that matchup" but I wouldn't specifically build the list to counter him.

Man, that person will probably actually exist, and have a miserable time, too :(

I forgot the Seever/Torkil swarm, and should add them

I straight do not believe in double deci.

I half-believe in han, then remember jedi are a faction.

My list-building is now premised on the expectation that I’m going to hit several lists with 6+ ships. Anything beyond that is 🤷‍♂️

FTFY

I think there's some legs to Han + Precog Luke

if anything, the threat of Sun Fac might cause a really interesting meta where a bunch of people bring wacky stuff because they are afraid of him, then the jerk playing 3 imperial aces wins anyway because it's better than the jank.
