The Evening Lamp OOC

By Blackbird888, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny Beginner Game

Chadrik is still with Zik, Takane, Kamoa, and Shisa but he will be heading off to help in the fight.

I don't know if I'll narrate the whole thing, but I will outline it and we can go from there:

(The bad guys are within short range of each other, at medium range of you. Three to the left, three to the right, two in the middle.)

  • Turn 1: Bralane steps forward and makes an attempt to coerce the attackers. She scares them, but only into attacking.
  • Turn 2: Phoon rushes the right group (group A), attacks and kills one. Presumably by ripping out his jugular.
  • Turn 3-5: Kamoa, Takane, and Zik move to the defense.
  • Turn 6: Kai attacks the leader with Hawk Bat Swoop. Injures him.
  • Turn 7: Leader draws weapon, directs allies, and moves back. Directed allies draw their weapons.
  • Turn 8: Shisa does nothing.
  • Turn 9: Chadrik prepares for battle.
  • Turn 10: Minion group A draws weapons and moves away from Phoon.
  • Turn 11: Minion group B engages Kai, attacks, and injures him. He kills one in retaliation.
  • Turn 12: Deputy leader moves closer, attacks Bralane with a whip, and injures her.

So, before Round 2, how would you prefer we proceed? I kind of miss the IC narration, but I also realize it's a big ask on the GM to do it all, and it prolongs things if we have to wait for each player to post an attack OOC, roll, have it adjudicated, and then narrate it IC. So, would you prefer that we:

  1. Keep things entirely in this thread, OOC, until combat ends,
  2. Go back to how we did things for social encounters, with each player doing both OOC and IC posts for each turn, or
  3. Keep things primarily OOC, with players posting narrative color IC if they want during their turn—with the huge caveat that the next player in the sequence doesn't have to wait for an IC post from the previous player before taking a turn?

I am going to suggest we as players just narrate our actions on the IC thread, perhaps including some of the action from a previous NPC turn if they interacted with us somehow.

As of right now yes, Kamoa is staying by Shisa, in case any of them decide to head for her. Given they clearly want to take her, he's not inclined to leave her undefended.

Right, I'd agree, but I wanted to make sure BB was Ok with it. I think the caveat about not having to wait for another player's IC narration is probably key to keep things flowing fairly smoothly.

Zik is hanging back with her, too, but he's much less equipped to actually defend her, so good to know.

We have several slots before the bad guys get to act again. It looks like Takane has the lowest dice pool from the rest of y'all, so I'll let @Absol197 decide which slot Takane will take, and I'll buff her in the slot immediately before that. [ETA:] That is, assuming she wants to press the attack. If she's hanging back, I'll buff Bralane or Chadrik instead, whomever plans to go on the offensive.

Takane has the lowest combat pool? I thought I was the only one with three ranks in my primary combat skill...?

Either way, I won't say "no" to a Presence boost! With both Kamoa and Zik keeping her defended, Takane will most likely move in to help Bralane. It keeps her closer to Shisa in case of trouble, and frees up the rodian to help the archaeopteryx :) .

If no one is opposed, I am happy to take the 1st Init slot again for round #2. I plan on pretty much wading right into the thick of it all, getting as close to as many of the bad guys as I can. I also plan on activating my Enhance power to boost my brawn by +2.

Any objections?

None here.

Let's narrate the first round first, how about? Since a lot of us just readied a defense, I don't think the order matters too incredibly much. I can go first, if that's okay.

I'm going to be babysitting my god daughters for the next several hours, don't really have time to do an IC post. Just assume for this first round that Kamoa does what I described in the OOC. Taking up a defensive position between Shisa and the opponents, and triggering his two abilities described.

So, what's the plan for this round? Sounds like Bralane is going first and attacking one of the enemy targets. Zik will take a turn at least one slot before the end of our string of PC slots to buff Takane, and Takane, too, will attack. That leaves Kamoa, Chadrik, and Kai to decide on actions (and initiative order).

I'll post an extended IC post tomorrow probably. Had family and friends over today and I'm beat.

Sounds about right. Unless the first Adversary does something really unexpected, let's have Kamoa go last this round, I think? Body Guard lasts until the start of his turn, so why not give it the longest duration we can? Hopefully KungFuFerret is okay with that :) .

I'm thinking we should (tentatively) decided to go Bralane > (NPC) > Zik > Takane > Kai/Chadrik > Kai/Chadrik, and then Kamoa in the last slot after the first bad guy?

EDIT: Also, a couple of things to keep in mind. Two lightsabers have just ignited. I know Takane has not seen a lightsaber before, and I'm guessing the thugs here haven't, either. Maybe that will trigger a fear check from them? They are known as exceptionally deadly weapons.

Also, we haven't been told what kind of weapons the thugs are using. Blackbird, do we know? Or is it too dark to see?

I suppose it would make narrative sense for Kai to go first since he is in the midst of fighting with Chadrik coming in afterwards to support.

Actually, I think you're exactly right, Mr. Arrow!

Totally fine with me.

Oh, I just meant whenever Kai and Chadrik's place came up. Not everyone together. But I suppose it does work narrative-wise. Chadrik can go whenever as long as it's not the last slot.

Unless I'm mistaken, Kai is currently engaged with 2 fighters, and at medium range to the leader. Do I have to engage the two, or can I move/ swoop to engage the leader again? Does anyone think they can make a more convincing argument for their surrender, now?

Kai is most interested in holding the leader accountable and preventing his escape, but will continue to use lethal force if he must.

We did take out two of them, but there are still six or more left (I don't think we've been told the total number who approached us). We could demand surrender now, but it might make sense to wait another round? It's a gamble, I guess, since another round also means more injury to us.

I'll go ahead and just take the first slot.

Bralane would like to:

Take one or two maneuvers such that she is engaged with as many of the bad guys as possible.

Action to use Enhance and raise brawn by 2.

Kamoa will continue to guard the girl, so he will spend the 1 strain to maintain the Body Guard effect, and stay within engaged of the girl. Not picky where in the roster, as long as it's before the baddies act.

Kai would like to engage the 2 minions he is facing, before they act.
