FFG European Championships 2017

By KMitchell, in X-Wing

Not X-wing but Euros related... for those who have already been there for Yavin, what are good (and not crazy expensive :P) places to eat around NEC and the airport? Either for a quick meal on the tournament days, either for thursday/monday.

There will be food stalls at the con, but there aren't really any good cheap food venues nearby unfortunately, and you will end up spending most of the weekend eating bread and meat and not a lot else.

A decent burger or similar is good enough for me, so it doesn't sounds that bad :P

It's the UK Games Expo at the same time, so there'll be plenty of options there.

The NEC itself has a Wetherspoons and Subway inside, and there'll be food stalls in the main hall. Last year at Yavin the car park of the NEC Hilton (where the X-Wing event takes place) had a large number of mobile stalls including freshly made pizza, burgers & hot sandwiches, curry, noodles and more. Most were priced around £5-8, so not cheap, but plenty of choice and pretty quick.

I'm trying to get there! You going there?

Yep, I'll be there, representing the Gunboat Club again! :)

I already have everything prepared for the D-Day. That includes the gazillion cards to gift, with a couple Green Squadron Pilots spares I didn't expect to have anymore.

If I go back to Spain with any of these will be your fault. Don't let me down and look for an ugly tall guy playing an Asajj-Emon list with the same paint jobs than the cards in the Euros, or a double ARC (same scheme again)/Firespray lists in the Hangar Bays. I dare you all. (Or just look for my name, Xavier Guerrero :P ).

So, there's a Team side event on Saturday and a Team Epic side event on Sunday - anyone know if there's any further details about for these?

Alex Watkins has posted details on Facebook. The X-wing part:

FFG European Championships side event structures

Star Wars X-Wing
Hangar Bay:
These will work in pods of 8 players. Players need to bring with them two lists (you may bring one if you wish). Each list must not contain any ships, names pilots or upgrades that appear in the other list. The two lists may be of the same faction though if you wish.
Team Epic:
Teams consist of two players. Each player brings a list of no more than 200 points. Full details on this format can be found at www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/x-wing
Team Event:
Teams consist of three players. Each player has their own squad of 100 points. You play against another team of three. To win the round your team must win at least 2 of the three matches. Your team is then awarded 1 point. The number of rounds will be determined by the number of players. Prizes will be based on the finishing record of the team.
If you do not have a full team and you want to join in then please sign up and we will do our best to fill up teams.

And prizes:

If the "if you don't have a team, sign up and we will do our best" also applies for Team Epic I may try it, otherwise I'm not sure if I will be able to play on sunday. We should have regular Hangar Bays that day too :(

Depending how I do I'll be wearing this on day 2 and/or 3, say hi. No cards though :(

Good luck all!

Stream for what, exactly? :(

Hey thats my fish! euro championship!

Best. Stream. Ever.

This is quite embarrassing.

FYI stream is back and games are being played. Just finished round 2.

Worst organisation ever seen

They gonna begin round 3, about 10 hours after the beginning of the tournament

round 3 is starting in a couple of minutes, it seems an empire vs scum game will be streamed

Are they going to be able to play all 6 rounds today?

Only 4, and everyone gets to day 2 it seems.

What exactly happened? Do we know?

Friends that participating passed the day talking on Facebook instead of playing ...

About 13 hours for only 4 rounds

Computer problems, they said

There were long delays initially due to increase security. Then apparently the tournament software crashed, and then a hard drive died on the laptop with the pairings so the TOs hard to more or less hand crank the rest of the day manually. So 4 rounds, but felt like 8 by the end of the evening. I reckon Starbucks did pretty well out of it though.

At a visual glance scum seemed fairly dominate, lots of JM5Ks. Few imperials (I did play a Vessery, Omega L and Vader list).

I'm a huge fan of the guys running our big European events, but today was a disaster. I had to drop to get to my hotels late check in and, to be honest, I was so bored waiting for action it was a relief. How does this happen?

There's actually quote a few Imperial lists in action, I played three myself (and am flying one).

They're just mostly hanging around the bottom tables, unfortunately :(
