Star Wars: Midnight Squadron [PbP] Shadows Over Veerstown [On Break]

@Aurin what is the remaining stormtrooper up to? If he decides to shoot one of us on lethal (not stun), then I'd like to spend a destiny point to upgrade his difficulty.

Tycho is reconsidering the life choices that lead him into a run in with an official Stormtrooper squad, but the Twi'lek's daring has proved that armor isn't everything.

Sorry gents - I had some last minute work travel that killed my productivity at the end of last week. Now let's get back on track :)

And yes, @Squirrelsan - I messed up the math as we were going. It was indeed 2D 1C for the opposed roll, so in my head I had dropped the last purple die that @Kymrel had rolled, and it was still a failure. Then, however, Kymrel got another boost die which would have pushed it to success, but when I went back and referenced the roll, I forgot to again drop the purple so I still got to a failure. Rather than backtracking, I'll flip one of the dark side points to light side and we'll call it even. Sound good? So back to 4 light side 3 dark side .

You managed to down one of the Stormies and disarm the other so far! Great job. The NPCs are up next so I'll get a post up here shortly.

@Aurin Any update?

Sorry fellas - travel got away from me here, but we should be right back to our regularly scheduled programming today forward. Sorry again for the lag - didn't mean to kill the momentum!

Div's natural dexterity overcomes her nervousness. The holdout blaster remains steady as the shot rings true, the blaster fire piercing the Stormtrooper's armor. The soldier staggers once, a hand grasping at the dumpster nearby to steady himself, before slumping lifelessly to the trash-covered alley floor. Military instincts take over in the remaining Stormtrooper. Without hesitation, the soldier draws the vibroknife from his utility belt and closes the distance with Ella. “ Drop my weapon, you little runt! ” The Stormtrooper lunges at the azure-skinned Twi’lek with his blade seeking her heart. Fortunately for Ella, the vibroknife meets the metal of the stolen blaster rifle at the last possible moment, deflecting the weapon from its intended target. The force of the attack forces her to stumble back, off guard.

Quote

@aclarkbr90 - understood. He is without his blaster rifle (Ella has it) but will intend to upgrade that check in the event he gets it back.

Stormtrooper stabs with vibroknife : 3eA+1eD 1 failure, 2 advantage
a-a-a.png a-s.png a--.png d-f-f.png

Stormie uses the two advantage to push a setback die to Ella's next action.

Realizing that hesitation could mean the difference in life and death to Ella, Tycho's eyes narrowed and he steadied his blaster. The trooper and Ella had become entwined as the trooper struck at her. Hit the trooper, not the Twi'lek , Tycho thought to himself, hoping he could will it to happen.

Quote

Aiming twice for two boosts (for two strain), plus 1 upgrade due to attacking an engaged target:

Shooting the Buckethead with my Slugthrower : 3eA+2eB+1eC 3 successes, 1 Despair
a--.png a-s-s.png a-s-s.png b--.png b--.png c-d.png

Well that went about as poorly as possible. That's 7 damage.... to Ella.

Just as the trooper raised his weapon again, revealing the seam, Tycho squeezed the trigger. The slug released with a bang. Tycho's smile turned to shock as his bullet flew just barely nicked the armor and continued straight into Ella's right arm. There was a moment of silence and then a cry.

Tycho stumbled backward in his hiding place, staring at the slugthrower in his grasp. His hand was shaking in awe of the horror he had just committed.

Ouch. Good thing the trooper missed or Ella would have been down...

Would probably be best if Ella went first in the next round and disengaged? That way we're not risking more friendly fire funtimes.

Quote

Probably a good idea.

Sorry, I'm just a little confused. Where are we in the initiative order now?

Quote

I think we are at the end of the second round. Todak is up. After Todak goes, we will be at the top of the order again. Has this trooper been hit? I know Div did excess damage to the first one, but I'm not sure if the excess counted toward the second ones' health. Also I think he took some wounds in order to take the extra manuever to attack Ella, which would make him pretty beat up. Either way, a good hit from the carbine should take him out. Todak, know anything about carbines or laminate armor that would be of use to Ella? Or maybe ranged (light) with your fruit to impose setback/add boost to Ella's attack?

Quote

@aclarkbr90 is correct. We're at the bottom of the second round with Todak up. At the top of the order, we've got PC, PC, NPC, PC, PC. You have one Stormtrooper remaining, who has been damaged already. A good shot from anyone (but particularly the carbine) should put him down. @Squirrelsan is up. If you are looking to engage, there is one downed trooper with a blaster rifle and a vibroknife or you can improvise a weapon. You can also do the same thing that you did last round, providing a distraction (to push the boost / setback).

Quote

Ah geez, sorry guys, I thought we are the top of the next round. I'll post tomorrow (it's midnight here now).

Todak gasped in shock as he saw the spray of Ella's blood, and dropped the rock he had been preparing to throw. Casting his eyes around the alleyway he desperately looked to see if there was anything he could use as a bandage.

Quote

Probably not the most tactical thing he could do, but I'd like to try and find/improvise some first aid since I don't have any stimpacks. Since I can't act on it immediately we can probably also continue with the next turn whilst Aurin tells me what roll is required? Also probably pointless since other party members do have stimpacks, but hey, Todak is a gear specialist and we don't have any gear yet, so there's a limit to his usefulness in combat.

The rules are pretty set on medicine checks. Medicine check to heal someone who is at less than half their threshold is one purple, plus one setback if you are doing it without a medkit or emergency medkit. Each success heals one wound, and each advantage heals one strain. A character can only receive one med check per encounter. (AoR 232-233 or a similar section in the other two core books).

That is very much correct, but take my word for it, Ella won't be staying still very much for the next round at least, so I assume the GM would assign a pile of setbacks to anyone attempting to bandage her until the combat is over

:)

Hey guys.

Just wanted to let you know that after tomorrow I will go on a two-week vacation where my access to internet will be limited. I will be able to post some evenings at least so it should never be more than a couple of days, three at most, until I can get online and get a post out.

Quote

Thanks for the heads up, Kymrel!

@Squirrelsan - @aclarkbr90 is right (just re-read the paragraph). It's one purple, plus a setback for not having supplies, plus another setback for being under pressure in the middle of a firefight and lack of medical training. It'll take one move to get over to Ella. Go ahead and roll!

After that, we're back to the top of the order where we have two PCs before the Stormie gets his next action. Let's hope you're able to put him down!

It might be better to wait until we've dropped the trooper for a first-aid check. Since we can only try once, reducing the number of setbacks is helpful.

Quote

Sorry to be unclear, I'm not trying to do a medicine check on her, I guess what I'm trying to do is see if I can find or improvise something that would function as " a medkit or emergency medkit " in order to allow a medicine check in the future without a setback. It's not really a sensible or even particularly worthwhile thing to do (as a player I know other characters have stimpacks), it just seemed like what Todak would do at the time. It's way more narrative than functional, Todak sees an injury and as an engineer his first reaction is trying to find an appropriate tool to fix it with.

Absolutely... why don't you make a hard streetwise check (using int) to see if you can scrounge bandages of some sort in the refuse. Or, feel free to propose a different check that you may feel more appropriate.

Casting around Todak spotted some familiar looking packaging. Grabbing it he was pleased to see it was indeed a packet of dura-tape, with half a roll left in it. It may not be surgery quality but it would be perfect for binding a wound to stop blood loss until real medical equipment could be found.

@Kymrel Should Ella go next? She has the best shot of taking this guy down. If she misses, Div or Tycho can follow up. Provided we haven't alerted anyone else, we should be out of this before the Trooper can attack you again.

"Ella! Get out of there! There's no clear shot!" Tycho shouted as he looked for an opening to take down the trooper. But the melee was too chaotic, and he did not want to risk hitting her again.

Ella shouts out when the slugthrower round grazes her shoulder, but simply doesn't realize what happened for now. All she can think about is getting away from the horrible armored trooper. She scrambles away from the man in more or less blind panic, firing the blaster rifle she grabbed at the Stormtrooper. This time the trooper isn't fast enough, and Ella hits him into the torso plate with a red blast from the stolen rifle. The man pauses, as if not comprehending that the alien had shot him. Ella keeps firing, putting three more round into the Stormtrooper as he topples.

"Hurry, grab weapons, anything useful, and run," she tells the others, out of breath and still in shock. She killed that Stormtrooper. Killed him with her own hand. A human. Probably just a human boy. Right now, Ella is glad the Stormtroopers hide their faces behind the white helmets. She isn't sure if she could have pulled the trigger if she could have seen his face.

Well, this will be a maneuver to disengage and get to Short range and then an action to shoot the Stormtrooper:

Shooting Stormtrooper again : 3eA+1eD 2 successes, 1 threat
a-a.png a-s.png a-s.png d-th-th.png

Hey! That's enough damage to put him down.

Quote

Assuming we are out of initiative, Tycho will grab the other carbine (which will put him over his encumbrance threshold, in case anybody else is carrying a little less). He will also pull one of the helmets off one of the stormtroopers and toss it to Todak - Any chance you can pull the com out of this thing? It would be nice to be able to listen in on what they are up to. Then, we should take ten seconds to hide these bodies in the dumpster and then get moving, ideally toward the nearest speeder or starship. If that means trying to hijack one of the Imperial dropships, so be it. Sound good? If so, I'll edit to narrate Tycho's proposal.
