For real though, pretty sure I saw a "speedpainting" stormtroopers tutorial on Geek and Sundry the other day.
They didn't turn out great.

(There's your problem right there^) if anything a good speedpaint would be:
1) spray paint all stormtroopers white with a base coat.
2) use a shader paint and then touch up any areas that are too shaded with the same base coat color.
3) Profit.

That's roughly what they did, but just with a wash after the spraypaint.
The wash just didn't add enough detail, in my opinion- they just looked like white stormtroopers with some light shading.
Mine are hardly perfect either, but here's an example of one that's just about finished. Just not quite enough contrast on the figure, for me:

looks good but could be better. they should have used a very thin brush to add a line of black paint to the deepest recess in the shading. or use multiple layers of shading to bring more darkness! They are puppets of the dark side after all.

Yeah, I think that could've made a pretty big difference.
Either way- speedpainting might just be the way to go with a game like that. I went crazy with the few stormtroopers we have to paint for this game.

Yeah! I was very enthusiast when I started painting my IA Stormtroopers. After just 9 I thought it was time for a break lol! Painting the royal guards and royal guard champion was refreshing! Now I don't see myself going back to black&white anytime soon, so sorry heavy troopers, jet troopers, Commander Somos, Captain Terro and Riot troopers ...
Wow, Runewars gets two articles in about a week.
I'm not even mad. Good for them!
kill legion please ![]()
Do we think that the "Friday" aspect still rings true for IA?
Seems like FFG's weekly article rotation generally looks something like this:
Monday- Random article, Star Wars likely
Tuesday- Eldritch/GOT/LOTR
Wednesday- Random article, Star Wars likely
Thursday- "Now in stores"
Friday- New Announcment or Legion
Though some days it does feel like this:
Monday- Legion article
Tuesday- Legion article
Wednesday- Legion article
Thursday- "Now in stores" + Legion article
Friday- Legion article
I'd imagine that any news for IA would still happen on a Friday, but I believe we did see the new X-Wing wave announced on a Wednesday. *shrugs

I wouldn't be surprise if it extend to that at some point

Emperor was my fave to paint.
Step 1: prime in black
Step 2: paint whitish-blue on hands and face
Step 3: light wash on said hands and face
Step 4: Do it!

After painting the royal guard family it feels natural to try my relatively new skills on Palpatine's mini. Will be the first time I try painting a face. How did you manage the eyes? And how about his mouth since I think he has it open enough to show some teeth?

I'm still low level intermediate (this crazy game got me into painting), so I don't even attempt that much detail. At some point, I'll give those details a go.
I primed Palpatine black, painted his face/hands with some random bone color, washed them with a flesh wash, then dry brushed the face/hands with Caucasian skin color, then lightly with bone. The teeth I generally left as were ('cause Emperor Palpy has terrible teeth). The grotesque contrast-y look to him works very well. Finally, what I do for eyes now is paint the eyeballs white (with a small brush and a steady hand+extra light+strong glasses), and next I use a 'black filt head pen thingy' (don't quite know what they're called in English but you get them in any staples and book stores) to stab in some irises. These irises are WAY easier to do than painting them with a small brush the way I used to, so I recommend the pen thing.
Edited by angelman2Yeah, I don't really do details on the faces, but a light black wash is a nice trick to fill out some features. This isn't a great photo, but you can kinda see how the black enters the recesses of the face, creating the illusion of detail
Heck he looks weird up front, heh heh
I think he looks great! Eyes turned out pretty good.
Just want to point out that this discussion has literally turned into a thread about watching paint dry.
FFG, this is the thread where we talk about what excites us in IA. Look at the things that are more interesting to talk about than IA right now. Look at your choices. Give us something!
@subtrendy2 and @angelman2 you guys are great inspiration! Thanks for posting your Palpatine picture! I will definitely commit myself!
