But it's a tempting comparison to make.

I refuse to do so!!!!! ;) Besides I found something to do in my spare times (that many have already done) : Painting IA minis!! Highly addictive! I thought to myself, ok let's just paint some clean-shiny-white-armor Stormies just for fun since I bought the Stormtroopers expansion pack. If I screw up it won't make a difference since you can't have 4 stormtrooper groups in a mission. I've painted 9 so far! And now I'm working on the Royal Guards!!

Nice!

Glad to see someone else indoctrinated into The Cult of the Brush!

Also, it’s been said in the past but worth repeating - the app was a fairly significant investment of time and resources for FFG. Why bother with a 18+ month investment of something outside your normal competency (building an app), if you have thoughts of killing said product one or two years later? That really doesn’t make any sense.

I wouldn't say that they'd kill it dead 2 years later. They could keep releasing app updates for years, just as they seem to be for Descent 2E. But I would think they would wind things down with boxed expansions. If sales are good enough we could see a small or big box in 2020. But I wouldn't count on it. 5 years is a long time for any product, and it seems reasonable for FFG to decide to reevaluate things after that time. Perhaps with a revised set of rules and a new Prequel or Sequel trilogy themed Core box. Or perhaps with nothing. I wouldn't consider those things IA as we know it today though, so I don't get too excited about them.

My wish is a new Core Box that focuses on either the new properties set in the original trilogy timeline (Rebels, Rogue One) or the new trilogy timeline.

You KNOW you want a shirtless Kylo Ren mini to paint and use in Skirmish!

A new core box would show us that FFG is into another multi-year support cycle with the game. Would also help us skirmishers to convince others to buy into what is really the hidden gem of this system.

(FWIW, I've been getting a surprising amount of Skirmish interest in my little neck of the woods. Even with Legion coming out.)

I’d love a new core, but I’ll be happy with the once a year big box.

I’d be interested in another small box myself, been awhile since we’ve gotten one of those...

Shirtless Kylo Ren's height would be at Imperial Assault's scale, while just his upper body would be more at Legion's scale.

B/c they think they can make more doing something else. We know that many of the people who were working on IA are finishing up Legion. Why? Because FFG thought it would make them more money, and so IA releases have slowed down a bit.

We “know many of the people who were working on IA are finishing up legion”? Just curious how we know that?

I’m not about to claim that legion isn’t using up a big chunk of physical production pipeline and probably some of what I’d guess are shared FFG departments that probably work on more than one game (I’d guess artists and stuff like that but I really don’t know all that goes into a game).

But I’d love to have someone tell us if the designers/teams of these games really spend that much time on the other games? I never really got the impression that Paul Winchester was having tons of his time sucked away by Destiny when it was getting started. I mean the designer teams are relatively small groups aren’t they? Last I heard IA was Todd Michlitz and Tony Fanchi and other than that I don’t know who is full time really on just IA so I wouldn’t think “many of the people working on IA are finishing up Legion.”

I just don’t think that’s the way FFG does things.

I would love a behind the scenes documentary video that showed the development of an IA expansion from concept to on sale!

I don’t think we will get an announcement until all the ally packs are available for use in the App

I admit I don't have the post that confirmed people who were working on IA are now working on Legion, but I could have sworn I saw it somewhere. Paul hasn't said his time was sucked up by Destiny.

My point is that IA has been more than two people in the past. I assume those people are now moved over to other projects (like Legion), they're at other companies or they are working on something we don't know about. When you've got talent, you find things for them to do or else they go to a competitor, and there are only so many people FFG can employ at one time and still manage them all effectively, give them the resources they need, and market their output appropriately.

Man, that is a level of transparency I think we can only dream about with FFG. But it would be really cool.

I just think it would be super cool to see the process of a game being designed and going through production - with just steps of the process - and then getting to see the little molds and figures and cards being printed and cut and everything getting packaged. That just sounds soooo interesting! But yeah, pipe dream...

"How It's Made - Imperial Assault!"

And it'd be a great PR piece!

(just as I hit send I realized I just should have edited my above post to add this, sorry double post)

Just because there is a lack of updates on skirmish does not mean it's a dying game. As someone who works in games, sales of IA have been extremely good over the past year and have only increased when they released the campaign app.

I am hoping they don't believe that updates for IA would conflict with legion. With a release date of more than a month away, that's just plain silly. And I do think they are making a mistake by not releasing any meaningful IA content since like October.

It is called the Alliance app. That was a release. And probably a great deal of work on their side.

There's a boardgame website Shut Up and Sit Down who did a behind the scenes documentary with them for the development of Twilight Imperium 4. Good stuff.

You make a great point (along with others) - the app isn't something they release and it no longer affects their work pipeline for the IA team. I would argue between the app and whatever they're doing for the next physical thing and beyond, a team of two or three people has plenty to keep them busy, along with any other things they'd get added to them, without Legion having anything to do with their workload.

I forgot they did this. I need to watch it since, while it looked interesting at the time, I've never gotten people interested enough in TI to get the game, as much as it's a dream of mine to try it. But I definitely need to watch the movie to glean some FFG production insights (hopefully there's some good stuff in there for that) and I love SUSD!

I'm always appreciative of what it takes to get epic games like this and Imperial Assault created and into my hands. Every time I open a new boxed game (after taking in the new game smell :P), I marvel and all of the cool figures, tokens, and art-filled cards they come with.

I just found out that a guy at work loves twilight imperium. Now I may get to try that someday

Hmmm...

Time for my weekly prediction. I'm gonna say Hey, That's My Fish! is getting a companion app, Armada will have a Purrgil expansion announced, or Game of Thrones is getting a CCG like Destiny.

Or a Legion article about how to kill time before the release. Or an article titled "Star Wars Imperial Assault" about how to lead an assault with imperial faction in Star Wars Legion

Hey, I made that joke last week! :P

But for real, how bad is it that I couldn't even think of a joke article about Legion that hasn't been done yet?

Porg expansion. It's coming.

Oh did you? My bad! I missed it (like a true stormtrooper!). These are really the first thoughts that came to my mind. Apparently the lack of IA articles triggers in me the same type of satirical reflections as it did for you! ;) I may not be the master after all (as stated in another thread)

Oh look, Legion previewed its speeder bikes. maybe they can speed their way into stores so that we can get some news already!

They haven't yet done an article on the thermoplastic pellets used in the production of the Legion figures, or which colorants and other additives... I'm really, really, REALLY curious!
