It's FRIDAY!!!!! Who will we see spoiled today??

By FSD, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

The picture in the article suggests that you can draw line of sight into a space with an Energy Shield, but not through it, but it might be just a graphical representation issue. On the other hand, you are not drawing line of sight into the space if you draw line of sight to the two nearest adjacent corners. I think it would match the thematics too.

I totally get why it's necessary (for instance, dropping "bosses" into there just to be safe and run out the clock comes to mind) but how do you see it as thematic. To me, it feels like someone inside an energy shield should thematically be safe from fire.

I think he means thematic as in it fits with the current rules that allow you to attack a unit that's enclosed in impassible terrain.

Maybe make it so only melee and adjacent ranged attacks could work against units inside the shield? There are several units that have the push mechanic to move another unit out of the shield. However it's still easy to exploit if you use it as a personal shield. In that situation, you would want to limit the total number of shields that could be placed during a mission rather than the total number out at one time.

From my understanding of what the Shielding rules implied, you cannot draw LoS through the space.

But I would say that you could draw LoS to the Shielded space itself if you can see two corners clearly without drawing LoS through the space itself to see one.

I'd be interested to see Pasi weigh in on Indescriminate Fire that targets a Shielded space? By my reading I think it would work...

It seems Indiscriminate Fire should be able to draw line of sight to a space with an Energy Shield token. The wording explicitly prevents drawing line through a space containing an Energy Shield token, but it does not disallow drawing line of sight to a space with an Energy Shield token.

Also, you can draw line of sight to a figure or object in the same space as an Energy Shield token, and you draw line of sight to a figure by drawing line of sight to a space it occupies. There's a difference, but the wording in the picture gives no other rules than not being able to draw LoS through a space with an Energy Shield token.

So, I think we can pretty safely assume that we're not getting any news today.

And for the first time in a long time, that's perfectly fine with me. Though, if they were going to release another article for some absurd reason, I wouldn't complain... :P

And can we assume that the next article will coming next week?

I can't wait to see skirmish stuff since i can't play campaign with friends

I think that's a hard "maybe".

With the last expansion "Jabba's Realm" we got our first article only about a month after announcement. The second article came a week later, and the dev diary about two weeks after that.

Then, the ally/villain packs got articles spaced out somewhat sporadically between October 21st and December 2, with the box itself not reaching stores until about a month after that.

But I think JR had a kinda funky release schedule.

It specifically states:

Quote

Line of sight can be traced to a figure or object occupying a space containing an energy shield.

Correct, but a space is not a figure or an object. But it is pretty clear you can draw line of sight to the space containing an energy shield. (There are very few abilities that need to draw LoS to a space. Anything else than Indiscriminate Fire?)

I'm actually hoping they space them out a bit. I don't want them to run out and end up with another month or two of no news! And I don't want them to spoil everything; it's nice to have some surprises when you open the box :D

Agreed. But I want to see those Riot troopers so bad :P

Speaking of surprises, here's to getting some good new items in the blisters, like Wave 7 had.

Double-bladed lightsaber would be a neat touch, for Maul. Dual wielding would be a neat Melee attachment for Ahsoka. Palpatine could have a "lightening" themed thing like EMP grenades that did significant damage (but only to droids or vehicles)

As to whether we'll get another article next week...there's precedent for one a week regularly and there's precedent for every other week regularly. So it'll be interesting to see what happens :)

I'm hoping for a skirmish focused big box article (3 skirmish hero cards, riot troopers, elite versions of sentry droids, some command cards, how clawdite shapeshifting works - crosses fingers!). I really hope there's a mechanic for destroyed terrain and shield generators in skirmish. Whether that's a character/deployment cards or command cards.

I kind of figured we'd only get our first article once the products went on the boat though. Glad to see things moving :)

So what does this put us on for a release? Early September?

More like end September. From on the boat it's 5 to 6 weeks, and then another 2 weeks shipping. For me, in South Africa, the shipments are almost always delayed, so it will more likely be mid October.

I wonder if Wednesday's our day now, and if we're getting a new article tomorrow. ^_^

Probably not; I would guess that the article was only posted because everything was moved to On the Boat that day. But we'll see!

Seems like tomorrow is likely for an article. This would allow them to have an off-week next week and then hit us with something awesome the week after during Gencon.

Awesome like, "Limited quantities available for early purchase at GenCon!" :o

Heck, why not "In stores now"? :P

Last year the week before gencon was full of great news, I was amazed they had any surprises left for gencon.

Yeah, and wasn't it at GenCon that they said at the in-flight Q&A (somewhat uncomfortably) "yes an app is still in the works, next question?"

Not really. It was the In Flight when Chris Petersen made the surprise announcement that they are working on an app for IA. It seemed the FFG Digital people were also a bit surprised. Since then we have had periodic "yes, working on it" acknowledgements.

They have said that the app was in production but wouldn't answer anything else about it at other cons, though. I think they did that at Orlando celebration.
