I hate to say it, but a game like Destiny is easier, and cheaper, to produce, and more lucrative due to the collecting portion. Gamers can't seem to resist the lure of gambling for rare items, as I found myself doing with Star Wars miniatures. I'm not prognosticating the death of IA or anything, but with so many Star Wars titles being juggled, I do think IA might be facing a slow down in production. I'm not saying I'm happy about this, but that is what I feel is inevitable.

Reading some of the comments on this thread, it seems to me that people are too impatient. Once Endo box comes out, I will be very content with the game as there are a great variety of figures and scenarios to play. I am actually going to be happy if IA will slow down after Endor bow but will be maintained for a decade or more to come. Slower release cycle will allow us to enjoy what we already have.

The point of this thread is to speculate about the future. FAIR WARNING if you come into this thread you will see people speculating and hyping and wringing their hands in anticipation!! With all that being said, ITS FRIDAY WHAT WILL WE SEE SPOILED TODAY!!

First article of the day is a Destiny preview article, but its super early so that means we are getting at least one more today. However, not sure if they will do back to back Star Wars related articles, I didn't pay attention to that in my review. Looks like we might be waiting till next week. And I honestly think that the 'slow down in production' or radio silence on the games future is due to the app. It's probably eating up a lot of the games resources right now so there is less for them to talk about, which is why they are spacing things out so much with this next wave. And I for one am very fine with that :) Again that is pure speculation, no animals or pets were harmed in the making of this speculation.

Edit: So double star wars announcements have happened in one day before, but it is generally an availability announcement or an event announcement paired with a preview. So based on that I wouldn't count on them posting anything IA today. But next week here we come.

Hmmmm,

I predict we'll get another Destiny article about a new card type, Magenta Heroes.

Then, maybe a developer diary for Destiny about how best to wad your cash up into a ball before throwing it away.

LoL, every time I think about getting into Destiny I hear the words 'secondary market' and I shudder. That is the last thing I want to deal with when playing a board game. All these freemium phone games were born out of the incest of two CCG's I think. Just pure evil.. but OH OH so fun.

Haha I look at this pic of Yoda and I just think of the meme "brb no pics so imagining" as being "brb, no IA news so imagining"

No, we won't see a new FAQ for IA, because FAQ 2.3 just came out in the centralized Organized Play update three weeks ago. It seems Armada FAQ missed the OP update, so it's getting the FAQ now.

Ah well, that looks like it for today - see you all back here next week for another exciting episode of not finding out anything new :)

What happen with this game?

RuneWars and Destiny are in the spotlight right now, its their time, we will let them have it! Not like we have a choice..

When the App drops IA is going to be all the rage and then they will come crawling back... AND WE WILL TREAT THEM LIKE THE DOGS THEY ARE!! muwhahahahah!!

Happy weekend guys, hope you get some good games in!

It just occurred to me that we'll probably see Inferno Squad troops in IA. Tie pilot outfit with special operations training!

Meh, Destiny sucks. The dice are clunky and it's not like a card game needs even more randomness. They have a pretty small pool of cards currently and so many of them are trash you'd never put in a deck. An online version like Hearthstone or GWENT would have been so much better, and also made them so much more money, it's really just sort of sad.

I don't disagree that Destiny sucks, only that it appeals to a wider swath of gamers who love the pretty artwork and cross-film connections. One of the reasons that I liked IA is the lack of randomness. I'm tired of collectible games, but it seem to be that not enough people are, or there are enough new buyers who haven't experience the evil that is the CCG. The game specifically targets a new audience by starting with the vapid NT, and featuring Rey-Rey and Kylo prominently. It's a gateway game. More to the point, those clunky dice and slick cards are much cheaper to produce than high quality sculpts, and who cares if 70% of the cards are unusable, people will still keep buying boosters to find that 30% that are.

Star Wars Imperial Assault and Star Wars Rebellion are for men. Everything else (Destiny) is for kids. ;)

I personally have no interest in Destiny, but if the game is doing well the same is true for FFG. Some people on this thread are rightly concerned about IA getting ignored, but I'll ask this:

If games like these allow the company to grow, could it mean FFG will more resources to produce higher quality content for their more niche games? Maybe take more risks going forward?

In my local area, a significant portion of the IA players (who are big into X-Wing) have gotten into Destiny and end up doing Destiny events over IA. Even with that happening, I don't feel like I need to be jealous of Destiny stealing away players or attention from IA. Instead, I've been trying to recruit more people to play skirmish IA with me locally. I've sunk *a lot* of money into IA, and I plan on sinking more. So I'm definitely going to do what I can to find friends and new folks to try IA.

In the online skirmish realm, it seems like there's an uptick in players. I honestly haven't been playing that long, but there is almost always somebody LFG on Vassal, whereas before Jabba's Realm, it was kinda hard to get a game. I don't know about online campaign games, but it seems like there's several going on through multiple channels (reddit, boardwars.eu, etc.). So I'm not worried about IA at all.

I'm no mathematician or economist, but my guess for the success of Destiny and the reason for the hard push just comes down to money.

At coolstuffinc.com, I can buy IA for $75, OR I can buy a Kylo Ren starter set, a Rey Starter Set and 15 booster packs for $75. Or I can spend that $45 in booster packs buying the cards I want/need without all the fluff (probably saving money in the long run).

Then there's the production side. FFG probably isn't printing these cards overseas, so there savings in shipping costs. The cards cost little to nothing to make and distribute. For $15 you can get a Bantha Rider pack (sculpt + 14 cards) or a Destiny starter set (24 cards, 9 dice and some tokens). Again, I'm no economist but I'll bet that FFG has a larger profit margin on Destiny. Plus the booster packs are $3 for 5 cards and 1 die, that's probably a better margin than anything in the IA line.

In short, follow the money.

You get a lot less for that $75 spent on Destiny though. You're also stuck with a 2 player only game which isn't suitable for most people's play. (Yes, you can play Destiny with more than 2 but it's long and awful.)

So SoR updated to shipping now to release for May 4th, so that is roughly 11 days. If we are looking for a mid May release for this wave then we would want them to be updating it right around May 4th.. which could line up well with their next big announcement.

edit: meant may 4th

May the 4th be with us...

what happened with MoM SE and new Doom board game?

Do you think they will come up with something new for both games?

Since Doom is similar to IA and Descent, i wonder why there is no expansion yet... looks like it won't have any actually...

I hope that they make a couple of expansions for doom the board game as well. I know it is still early so I will give it some more time.

I don't think it's looking great for Doom. One of the recent threads on this forum is a link to an AMA on Reddit with one of the designers of Imperial Assault, who was also the head designer for Doom. The way he was talking made it seem like Doom wasn't selling that great and it didn't seem like there were any expansions in the works.

While I don't think every board game ever made needs expansions, I'm sad that Doom isn't selling. Honestly, though, how many people really knew about it. It seems like it has flown under the radar some. Unless you troll the FFG News feed regularly, I can't see how anyone knew about it.
