The End of Talisman

By chemical22, in Talisman

I've already 'commissioned' some board art for something and have sourced a number of CC art pieces for one half.

I'd be quite happy if it became a community project.

I'd drink to this. But is it possible. .?

Why not. I suppose it all comes down to getting the artists approval if this is going to be a homebrew with a bit more "spunk" than normal homebrews. Given we want to pool a group of players talent and ideas I would think this would be a good step forward.

I'll post a bit more in the week as I'm away for a couple of days, but basically I have had a board drawn up by a rather talented fan and have found a few nice bits of 'Woodlandy' art that are marked under Creative Commons, so they can be used with the correct credits. It's actually all from one artist, so that's handy.

What I will need is some 'Highlandy' art, and some 'Dwarven' stuff, particularly a few things that might be described as 'Legendary' items that were forged long ago...

I'll be looking for some stuff over the next few days, and will make a post on here and Talisman Island with a progress report.

What I would prefer is that it follows a similar formula as far as cards go, so a number of things can be recycled from existing expansions, but with quite a few new cards. This time though I intend to have a couple of Endings that can be activated once the main part of each Realm is visited! :)

It should be an interesting project, and if I set a few 'conditions', I think it could be a nice simulation of what it's like to produce an official expansion. It's a bit frustrating at times, as you might not be able to have exactly what you want to achieve, but it certainly makes you think outside the box a bit to get the most from the assets available.

It'll be fun, and a fitting group effort to see the game off.

So "and this is just me going out on the ledge here" you were thinking of some sort of dwarven city mine to be connected to the Highlands and then some sort of lost jungle to be the woodlands side. Then maybe a dwarven tunnel between the two?

It would be good to see your card ideas etc.

I'd be more than happy to help creatively (And even financially) any way I can!

Hmmm, dwarven city mind...Maybe some denizens from the Lost City in the Highlands expansion can tie into this. I've always thought that the Lost City aspect of that expansion could have been explored more...

Yay for Jon!

Bummer. :(

I am just wondering, with the news of their partnership coming to a close, can we expect....or hope to see a final updated FAQ for all the new stuff that has been released since the last update?

Will Talisman Digital continue to produce expansions (like the forest)?

Yes, the Nomads have already commented that this hasn't any affect on them, as they have a license agreement with GW directly to make the digital version. They have never had any official relationship with FFG, only GW. All expansions will still be produced by them.

On a related note, if the Highlands-Woodlands mini-Realm were to be created by Jon/the Community as mentioned earlier, I wonder if it would be possible to have Nomad make a digital port of that as well. Not sure where something like that would fall under their license agreement.

I don't see why not. If Nomad is able to create new characters for the Digital game then they should be freely able to adapt this expansion with Jon's permission...which shouldn't be too hard considering the Jon's a member of the message board there.

Well, that's disappointing. Guess I have a little over five months to buy up all the expansions I don't have yet, because I'm not about to pay the super-inflated after-market prices sellers will be demanding after February.

Still, as saddening as this is, the game at least had a good run, and FFG gave us several months' notice for those of us who need to round out our collections--another series I enjoy was cancelled earlier this summer, and that company gave the fans neither of those concessions. There was no explanation and, more importantly, absolutely no warning at all, and the shoddy treatment made me mad as hell. I think it's telling that I don't feel at all angry about Talisman's end, only sad that something else I enjoy is coming to an end.

Maybe it can be done with a donation initiative like some of the custom characters. May as well raise money for a good cause as well.

If anybody needs to buy a missing exoansion, I'd do it now, they're disappearing on amazon, and ffg isn't doing pod for deep realms anymore, the reaper is Mia on their site as well and $70 on amazon, I ordered a backup of everything to keep sealed for posterity's sake, but the prices seem to be creeping up since the announcement.

THAT I'm not too sure about. There were some complaints about the Shaman custom character because some people with a Season Pass felt that ALL content created for the Digital Edition should be included, even ones in which the proceeds went to charity. Personally, I had no complaints about paying a lousy dollar for extra content, but the "controversy" from that might scare away another charity fundraiser.

... ffg isn't doing pod for deep realms anymore ...

Blast! I was just thinking to myself "OK, don't panic, you have 'till the end of february to get everything you're missing"...

Now I'm panicking. Is it even possible to get Deep Realms anymore? Since they don't keep stock (print-on-damand) and they don't print it anymore...

Any suggestions?

Edit: Apparently shortenning of "damnation" is filtered as an f-word :)

You can pay too much for it through Amazon.

Umm... Thanks but, no thanks. :)

I guess I'll just wait ten years and then pick it up on ebay or some garage sale :)

My local store her in Sweden still has it in stock for 135 SEK, about €13. Send them an email at [email protected]

They make deliveries to other countries but it says you have to contact them for more info.

Thanks a lot :) I'll be sure to check them out. My local gaming store also has a bunch of those, unfortunately all in Polish. My whole set is in English so I'm keeping those as a last resort :)

I had to pay way too much for it on amazon (49.95) to get the extra copy

Yeah that's true well maybe a fundraiser to get Jon a golden toad or a "wizzzard hat" :)

So...here is a question (with commentary first)

1. We know that Nomad Games has the license to continue and seems to plan on publishing the expansions for Talisman 4th Edition Revised.

2. We also know that the game rights revert back to Games Workshop

3. GW produces board games now (and in the past). Previously it was under Black Industries, which is where we got Talisman 4th Edition.

4. Specialist Games (a section under GW) is gearing up to produce some stuff (i.e Blood Bowl is making a return).

Could we dare hope...that instead of fan made section, that GW Specialist Games will reissue all Talisman 4th Edition Revised in mass and finish up with the connector between Highlands and Woodlands, along with a version of Timescape.

Could we also dare hope that with Nomad Games making digital versions, that perhaps it may never make it print, could they create the connector and Timescape?????

Could they create the connector and Timescape?????

Why Timescape? All we need is the connector.

I highly doubt it. And for I think the second time ever agree with uvatha, who cares about the Timescape? Lol. I would be extremely surprised if we see anything talisman related within the next ten years and would not be surprised at all to never see another talisman product. I love talisman but I do not think that it could ever be completed more completely and then some than 4th edition has done.
