Article Predictions. Mostly General Discussion. But there's definately some Predictions scattered throughout.

By Drasnighta, in Star Wars: Armada

A;though, I will admit... The Best strategy game I ever played was DEFCON... But, it was with a twist, so read on:

There was a group of 4 of us... We were all working repeated 10 hour shifts in a call center, since it was basically shutting down (All of the other staff had been made redundant and had been given severance packages - we, the graveyard shifters, were "essential components" until closing - yes. We were components.)...

So I'd snuck it into the system, and we'd fired it up - playing it in 2x Realtime Speed... DEFCON is wonderful in taht you can actually play it in REAL TIME... Which makes hurling insults at each other across an empty hall of open-plan computer systems awesome.

We had put stakes on it... The place was being cleaned out, and we'd found the Fridge had been stocked with Beer for the Party the Next Day for the redundant staff... But the fridge wouldn't close properly... We removed 4 Slabs of Beer from it so it would, and those Slabs became One Each - Take it from them if you Can! prizes...

It was freaking glorious... Especially for Maude, our 75 year old ex-retiree who had been forced back into the Workforce to pay for her Children's Debts... Man, she was a cranky, but fun old hag... She almost took the endgame from us with her SLBM strike of doom from the Indian Ocean...

The alliances we'd worked over messenger were positively byzantine... I think I walked away with 2 and a Half Slabs, even though I was the second player to "lose" that day...

I can't believe nobody has talked about Civ IV and how amazing it was.

I've been back on my EUIV kick since the release of the new expansion. I think i've spent about as much on that game as I have on Armada.

I really hate Paradox for releasing so many expensive DLCs, but EUIV is awesome. I still need to finish my Netherlands game where I basically went historical and colonized south america, indonesia and south america.

I still wish for a SoaSE 2 where less is more, and they focus on creating actual warships instead of "units". A frigate firing a single cannon and with no anti-air guns? Please. I'd rather have 15 frigates firing 5 different weapons at the same time than 75 units firing a single weapon.

What in the **** did I just read

I KNOW, RIGHT?!

We have something similar in the states. You toast a piece of bread, always white, the smear a layer of peanut butter on top. Then you sprinkle a little sugar and cinnamon on and then eat hopefully still warm.

The entire point of fairy bread is that it is Cheap, it is Quick, and it keeps kids happy...

"How can I feed a Birthday Party of 4 year olds when I spent all but ONE DOLLAR on the Cake and Presents?! Oh, I know, FAIRY BREAD...."

You find the cheapest loaf of white bread you can, you stick on enough butter to make the 100s and 1000s stick... And then you pour them on, and then tilt the slice to pour them off, so you get a nice even coating, without them running everywhere...

DONE.

You cannot make Fairy Bread nicer than that, even if you are an American Hipster. It just does not work.

Which state? Peanut butter and cinnimon? That sounds totally weird! :P

Toast, butter, cinnamon, sugar. Done!

I'm a peanut butter freak. I'd rather just slather up a piece of toast with nut butter.

Jesus FFG... you don't get us news and look what happens. We're talking about video games and freakin' toast!!! This isn't healthy behavior!

Well, I'm not expecting anything more than an "Available Now / Soon" post for some stuff, today... So I figured I'd start early on the random.

I've been spending my time ripping pegs off of my ships and adding magnets instead.

I'm in the middle of a Netherlands game too! **** Burgundy!

But for reals, I decry the DLC, but then I go and purchase a single ship in armada that costs 40.

Ive gotten far more time enjoyment exploring everything EUIV and CKII has to offer, DLC and all. They're both fantastic games.

Civ IV is still my favorite Civ. I could never really get into V. The AI was extremely erratic and the one-unit-per-tile restriction was well-intended and worked fine in the early game but by the late game it was a micromanaging nightmare (even moreso than other Civs, where the late game is always the worst part).

EUIV is amazing. I've invested hundreds of hours into that game. The AI there isn't 100% perfect but it's quite capable overall and light years ahead of any other Civ-style game I've ever played. 10/10 would get stomped by France again.

Also had the best intro musoc ever. Would sit at my desk staring at tthe title for like 20 minutes or so, lighting up an herbal supplement, singing along. Yaba yetu yetu

Won a Grammy in 2011 - first music piece composed for a video game that has won a Grammy

Loved Civ IV but liked five better, but it has nothing on that theme song!

I guess you make a good point! I've had to restart my Netherlands game when I first tried it because I prompted the AI formation of the country before I could do it myself (1 province away). But, once it's done, you become a trading powerhouse. Mercenaries become so useful for you and just be careful not to piss off the Commonwealth. I've declared war on England for South Africa rights during one of the numerous civil war of theirs and got a crapload of colonies that way xD

I barely have a continuous block of time for Armada, let alone a 4x game, but I will go ahead and promote a game that I would support theoretically if I could just because I really, really enjoy the artist: Stars in Shadow.

Lots of old fashioned 2D goodness drawn by the author/artist behind The Outsider webcomic. Really grand stuff: have no idea how the game is though, :P

Shouldn't IFF be making a new podcast soon? It's been over a month.

I was okay with the one unit per tile, thing. I got tired of late-game stacks of death real quick in previous civilizations.

I really dig what they are doing with the new city system in Civ6 too - kind of an extension of the one-unit stack thing.

I honestly never really liked Civ IV. I tried but ultimately went back to III and then straight on to V. V was okay but I think fantastic once Brave New World came out. I have a feeling VI is going to be the best Civ game to date once the final expansion comes out although we'll have to wait and see how the game systems play at launch.

Yea can't wait for countless start up crashes because they didn't debug Civ V before launch -.- That alone made me quit for 5 years.

And I'm still playing Civ IV: Colonization...

World prizes article. Stuff looks cool af.

Oh man they're really trying to get that Rieekan card into players hands for worlds. If any one is going to worlds I can 'trade' you for one of those please! :)
