Article Predictions. Mostly General Discussion. But there's definately some Predictions scattered throughout.

By Drasnighta, in Star Wars: Armada

Well, put it this way.

There's a whole subset of Warhammer 40,000: Conquest players who are looking for a new game now...

True, but I'd think if they got all excited about warfare and stomping on one another, they'd be more interested in Game of Thrones*. Maybe, though?

*Also tried that one. Not fun at all. Lots of "winners keep winning, losers keep losing" resulting in anti-climactic and demoralizing games as the winner just snowballs to the inevitable victory (happened I'd say about 2/3 of the time). My faith in FFG LCGs has been severely compromised.

I've not touched a Card game in 10 years, so I really can't comment on it....

And they're Pimping it, it doesn't tell us how successful it is... I mean, they're even spinning off a Boardgame in the same Universe, so wether that is a sign of success or a prop for success, I don't know...

Couldnt we also infer the lack of many articles implies that Armada is doing fairly well? The fact that they claim it to be a giant in the model table top world and dont push out that many articles leads me to believe more in perhaps the shortcomings of their other products profits then of any on Armada's part. I simply think FFG is comfortable with Armada's success and dont feel any need to focus on it when there are many other priorities.

Especially with the recent waves and the announcement of four expansions and a campaign, we know this game has longevity. They know it as well. We just aren't a priority and I don't think that's bad. It sucks for all of us who want to know details of what lies in wait but it may ultimately be a good thing. I'd rather get details closer to release. Now what would be terrible is if they had never announced the four expansions and campaign and we were still in the dark.

Skimming the article makes me not want to read the book. Chess isn't about thinking tactically or planning ahead. Chess is just a deep search problem. Finding the optimum move at any given time is just a search tree. Chess is a terrible metaphor for AI. *bashes head on desk*

So comfortable they are irritating their buyer base - and thereby undermining their entire business model?

No, I don't agree. I think they are not very good at customer grooming - and horrible at logistics.

But they make **** fine games!

Perhaps but are you going to quit the game because of slow article turnouts? I would imagine not and these articles are meant for us who have invested in the game already not prospective newcomers. So its not neccesarily bad business for them unless droves of people are quitting because of it.

We know there are things coming out fairly soon. All these articles do is tease and explain what we'll know on release. I'd agree if we were in the dark completely and it looked as if the last wave was all we were getting. Thats not the case.

Regardless of the articles we are still most likely going to buy the expansions and campaigns so they arent really losing money.

It's also the case that the number of people who read the boards are a tiny percentage of the Armada playing population. And the number of people on pins and needles about new articles are a subset of that already small population. Most people are just fine playing with their new toys as they come out, especially if FFG avoids another gap like the one between waves 2 and 3.

I don't even necessarily want spoiler articles.

I just want news. I like reading about my game.

I want strategy articles.

I want articles about the state of the meta.

I want tournament reports.

I want interviews.

I want ACCURATE RELEASE DATES.

I get most of this itch scratched on the forums and community podcasts, but there should be no reason why we should be limited to an announcement article, a spoiler article, and a release article for each product that basically rehash old information and disclose new information in a formulaic way.

Armada is in a good place, but I like reading about that!

GoT: Hand of the King - Available Soon

Dare we foresee a nice little Armada article today?

Eagles dare, fans demand!

Ok then, I DEMAND! :D

Come in Danny-Boy and give us a chuffing article.

Careful. If someone plays along, in no time, you're going to be shouting "I WANT SOME BUTTS!"

Oh man. I'm hoping we see squadrons or objectives from CorCon today. I can't even decide which I'd prefer. Or we could talk more about the actual map. That would be ok also but not quite as awesome.

I wouldn't mind seeing a worlds prizes article today. And then maybe squads on Friday.

For my part, I'd like to know more about the game mechanics. How do you get access to objective cards, and when can you play them?

Where's my article FFG?!

I desperately want to know all of the squadrons from Corellian Conflict. There's supposed to be 16 new squadrons added right?

According to the Armada wiki we know what 6 are so that leaves 10 unaccounted for.

-Shara Bey A-Wing Squadron

-Dagger Squadron B-Wing Squadron

-Rogue Squadron X-Wing Squadron

-Biggs Darklighter X-Wing Squadron

-Black Squadron Tie Fighter Squadron

-Ciena Ree Tie Interceptor Squadron

yep and, we already know 5 of them :D

But we only really know the full details of three. We know parts of Shara Bey and Dagger squadron but we dont have the full picture on either.

Know of...

Not necessarily know.

This. Specifically, I gots to know Biggs and Shara Bey. I've been testing Bey in casual games since we can pretty much make out her ability from the back of the box. I've been going on the assumption that she'll cost the same as Tycho, but I'm starting to doubt that. Counter 3 and counting the criticals is absolutely BRUTAL, especially when you have scatter in the mix. She's pure evil to dump into a ball of TIE fighters. I had her take on three squadrons of TIEs on her own. She wiped them out by the end of the next turn while taking a single point of damage.
