Same. Not to mention the plethora of cool ships, the possibilities for new objectives, and commanders...

10/10 I hope this is the "Something Big" we've all been waiting on

The problem isn’t that it will kill everything (how can we know that?,) the problem is having 300 points sunk into one hull. If new rules aren’t introduced for killing huge ships (including a hefty stream of errata and an FAQ,) SSD fleets will slant towards winning big or losing big. Either way, that’s likely to cause some dissatisfaction. Having fewer dice or hull would be a measure to reduce the cost, not necessarily an end in itself.

I'm still not convinced that this is a problem. Putting all your eggs in one basket, embracing risk, is a normal strategic choice in a strategy game. IF you're risk-averse, don't bring an SSD.

It might mean that there's more rock<paper<scissors to the game, in which meta-reading and list-building play a greater part in the outcomes of games and tournaments. I can see how that would be frustrating for people like me who are lacking in time and attention-span, but that tends to already be a deficit that I have to deal with.

I'm mostly leary of the setting for Resistance. But if anybody can make me love that time period its Filoni. I wish they'd just hand the d*** Star Wars reigns to him outright.

So much this.

If the SSD is coming out I wonder if the Bulwark will as well? I’m perfectly ok with clone wars seeping into Armada, I would love a droid control ship...

If Armada gets Republic and CIS factions, I expect the Venator to be cross faction compatible for the Empire.

The same should be true for the Rebels getting a Lucrehulk.

Knew they were looking at selling.

interesting is going investment company to investment company...

How will those calling for a SSD handle it when / if it turns up an does not live up to the expectations of it.

Don't wish to hard for it. More expansions please.

I'll only be unhappy with the SSD if Rebels get that god awful bulwark cruiser (if you think it looks nice, well then you are lost)

Imps get SSD i want a MC85

Personally for me SSD is a dream the same as ever, much more likely IMO is clone wars factions with ships and squadrons that can also be used in Civil War armada

"If it appears on screen it will be in the game." I don't remember the source beyond that it came from FFG, some time around wave 2, I think.

With that in mind, I want both a SSD & Clone Wars ships!

Damnit FFG, take my money!

I still just can't wrap my head around how this would be even possible. Unless FFG is going to put Armada on the front burner for the first time in history (and with X-wing 2.0 and Legion just breaking ground, along with all their other miniature properties, I just don't see this happening), this would be a train wreck scenario.

Can you imagine Trying to play only Wave 1 Imp or Rebels against what you can field in total now days?

You'd need at least the equivalent of Wave 1-3 to be anywhere near competitive against standing Imp/Rebel lists. You're talking a full year's worth of releases in one wave, or 1-2 years of waves with NOTHING for the existing factions.

Then, after that, instead of 1 wave of 2 ships every 6-8 months, you would need to at least double that output. In fact you'd probably need to more than double it. You'd need 1 ship for each existing faction, and then 2 ships for each of the new factions to help catch them up in options. On top of that, you drastically increase the play testing needed to make sure new material is well balanced.

Just logistically speaking it would be unlike anything we've seen in Armada before.

On top of that, the risk of alienating players is notable. Those new units are going to have new upgrades, and there will likely be a wave or 2 with no updates for the current factions. Players of factions will be forced to buy the new faction models to get access to cards they want. While some people will welcome new factions, others will quit. Some of the people that collect all the factions will decide to focus that effort elsewhere. While armada certainly does well enough, most players are a single faction. Right now each player buys half the stock. Adding two new factions without a series increase in player numbers means they will be producing twice as many SKUs for the same approximate profit, and that, ultimately, would be a loss in profits. Heck, just trying to predict production numbers would be challenging. How many people will switch to the new faction, which faction will they switch from, etc...

They may surprise me here, and honestly, I hope they do. But it seems like a high risk, low reward scenario.

I think what we'll get, if we get Clone Wars stuff, is a Republic core set and a CIS core set. The cores could include new ship cards for some ships we already have like the Pelta. Probably release a new ship and fighter pack for both of those factions either along side it or shortly thereafter. The next couple of waves would be Clone Wars stuff and then either back to the GCW era or the new timeline after that. But I want my d*** SSD before any of that.

Not if done right. In short, each ship that exists in both time period should receive double cardboard. Rebel/Separatist/Empire/Republic. Add Republic and Separatist cardboard for the pelta, kitten, cr90, VSD to the new core set, or in a new campaign pack. By dual statting all the Clone wars era ships, you gain 2 new factions that double as GCW expansions. Only unique upgrades or squadrons wouldn't be available across each faction. Now everyone gets something out of any given expansion.

FFG's "Big Announcement"? Two new factions the easy way:

"Battlestar: Armada" New core set and wave of releases for 'Armada', set in the Battlestar Galactica universe. Technically a standalone game, but fully-point-and-balance-compatible (and tournament legal, to make the purists' heads explode!) with Star Wars Armada.

*boom*, done. ? ?

Yes. This. And if they really want to simplify it, have a BSG:A “Core Set” with dice, manuever tool, ruler, etc., and then just have expansions for the Galactica, Pegasus, and Cylon Basestars, as well as squadron packs for Vipers, Raptors, Raiders, and Heavy Raiders. There’s your whole game. Doesn’t need to be any more complicated than that.

If there will be tears, I'm in.

Eh...have you played 'Deadlock'? Plenty of other options for them, actually...

Said it before, but this could lead to the Armada line of space combat games. SW:A. BSG:A. Star Trek: Armada (to make attack wing what it could have been). Bring back Battlefleet Gothic: Armada.

Heck, Spaceballs: Armada... ok, too far. But you get the idea.

I haven’t (heard it is amazing), but was just going for the simplicity of the 2004 version, having a limited number of combat ships and squadrons.

Too bad that the BSG license is with Ares Games right now

Clone wars seems likely imo..

Based on the sole reason of why we all either choose imps and rebs in the first place... They know a good fraction of imps will want to play droids, and the rebels will want to play republic which if ships are cross compatible will result in a major cash cow, due to those players buying both factions..

BSG armada could take all my money.. Similar to a Stargate one (albeit SG having less ships available)

My only issue with clone wars is a lack of aces
