Article Predictions. Mostly General Discussion. But there's definately some Predictions scattered throughout.

My feeling on X-wing 2.0 and its packaging is why dont they go down the route of a free app that gives rules, but pay for the faction decks & package the ship cards & dial of each ship individually in a foil packet then you get buy as many or as few as you want /need (retailers can get them in for the v1 blisters /boxes they have so they can actually sell them once 2.0 is released ) & put the faction neutral upgrade cards into upgrade boxes

Because that creates a duplicate permanent SKU for each item - and as far as businesses go, they generally try to keep those at s minimum.

So why not give them a temp SKU? And have a 6 month ordering window after your main print run of them... once its over its over. That gives people an incentive to buy them when you release V2 meaning more people playing increasing the likelyhood of these people buying extra ships later especially people who havent played/brought a ship in years.

Instead of going with the 1 pack to rule them all with dumb ammounts in... 2 Xwings & 2 ghosts... meaning that people are already talking about walking away from the game as it will cost too much to upgrade their existing fleets (£3- 400 is what a number of people at my local club are calculating)

Plus the SKU doesnt even have to fit in with the rest of your numbers as its a limited run

You asked for a reason, I provided one.

Personally, I easily foresee the second hand market covering a bunch of it... which is kinda unfortunate, but par for the course.

I guess the encouragement is “try mixes of things” until uou slowly rebuild the collection... since if they were truly evil, they’d just make you re buy everything.

the real kicker for me is I've not brought a single Xwing ship for years... so a 1/3rd of the pack is useless... but I have 6 Xwings & only get 2 in a box....

So is that it then? Announcement phase is over and can expect nothing?

Why is this the case? I mean, skuing your announcement toward only one game system is obviously bad, but why not SKU your products?

Logistics, production, shipping, warehousing, retail shelf space, etcetera is much, much worse for 50 different small boxes than 3 big ones.

Nooooo. Why is that beneficial? Why have cards at all if you need an app? Why stop at points value?

In point of fact, they didn't: upgrade bars are also app-only (which I'm not sure how I feel about that one).

I like the app-based point value because things will be a **** of a lot easier to patch. Negative or free titles lack elegance. This is a new way to do it that's a logical outgrowth of the interwebs.

Just so long as all tournament hosts have WiFi & plugs for charging or the app has the ability to print so you have a physical copy when playing /checking

& what happens if your phone goes from fully charged to dead in 2.3 hrs? (as mine has been known to do....)

They said you don't need to have the app with you at the tournament. (Not sure how you verify lists are legal, but.)

I'm wondering if store owners will have the ability to create tournaments in the app. Then you can share the list to the tourney and verify it before you go.

I think I saw someone mention pdfs of current ship costs would be available for download as well. So that will help.

yeah, they said they will have a pdf doc to have all point costs available offline. for the so inclined or with bad wifi.

I think there are so many people that could say the same about the exact number of each type of ship in their collection (I.e. almost literally every player) that I predict there will be trading or a secondary market for people to get bits and pieces to cover their collection.

and a 1001 extra ghost, phantom I etc etc dials and cards left after the 2ndry market has its fill....

That certainly is a great article for Star Wars Hyperspace week.

This is the only FFG board I frequent, and I’m curious... how widespread is the backlash? Is it mainly centered here since we don’t have anything in the pipeline, or is it in all the Star Wars boards but X-Wing?

The Legion discord was pretty salty, too.

Must be pretty upsetting not being the center of attention for more than 36 hours.

I mean, the purest salt I saw was from X-Wing players themselves...

I get that, lol the cost to convert is insane. it's like investing into a brand new game. I don't know how FFG should have done this but I know that the way they did was pants on head crazy. It's like they thought "that building is on fire, how can we best put it out" and so they lit the two buildings on either side of it on fire.

"We put the fire out"
"You made them worse"
"Worse...or better?"

I think you meant minutes.
