Could you imagine if noone had painted gear?
Hahaha

P.s. and by afford i dont just mean money wise. Time wise also counts
If it was my tournament, I dare say you wouldn’t be walking into it without knowing.
Also, giving paints to painters is often redundant or wasteful - Why would that be a good idea? Since you can’t know what they need or want... and it DOES have a lifespan...

I’ve rewarded less before.

I didnt say it was a good idea - i said i wouldnt mind and my reasoning behind that is i wouldnt care for it.
Edit: i wouldnt want paints as a prize, i dont paint so i wouldnt want to win it, ergo i wouldnt want in on the *painting tournament thing* anyway. If your looking for real ideas: painting accessories (i.e. fine paintbrushes) would be pretty neat id imagine.

This is one of the hardest parts of being a TO at the moment..
Trying to please - or at least accommodate - as many as possible, in the face of self interest and apathy.
Might be a minor change, but did anyone else notice they clarified the Spectator definition in the tournament rules to be a person physically at the tournament?

What if I’m at the tournament but have my eyes closed?

What if I have Daredevil esque powers? I mean, uh, no, I'm just a regular blind lawyer working in Heck's Kitchen with Fulton from the Mighty Ducks.

You'll probably knock over a table. I almost do that though with eyes open though as well.
If you have anyone in your local community who would get upset over an additional prize in Armada kits for people who choose to paint stuff, then I think there's no pleasing those people anyway. If you're one of those people who can't afford to buy paint or you don't have time to paint - a lot of the people who do enjoy painting, as well as the game stores that sell paint, would love to paint with you after a tournament!

Guess it's in response to the "scandal" at a recent X-Wing event where a former World Champion was watching the live stream of the event on a third-party Twitch stream, noticed an error in the game state where the players forgot something, called the cell phone of one of the players, and asked to speak to a TO to inform them about the player's oversight.

That was actually my thought as well when I read about that event. But it doesn't actually limit that from happening again, since it doesn't say anything about limiting non spectator comments right?
Good lord, people. The “prize” for painting is (apparently) a certificate. It is a piece of paper. I really couldn’t care less if they give that out. I don’t think they will, however, and here’s why.
Painting Legion models is part of the hobby. It probably won’t ever be required, but it remains part of the game.
Painting X-Wig or Armada minis is not. It is something a minority of hobbyists decide to do on their own. It isn’t part of the game. Furthermore, if I go to some event and plop down my Chimera and say I painted it from a base ISD, prove me wrong. I mean, if I’m running it with cards from the expansion, it’s pretty clear that I own the Chimera expansion, but you can’t prove whether that ship is factory stock or painstakingly painted by hand.
Also, there are some AWFUL repaints out there. The one thing I would find annoying is if someone showed up with awful repaints and demanded the award simply because no one else repainted their ships.

If anyone demands anything, the TO may legally eat it in front of them, then eject them from the tournament. If they don’t demand it, I see no reason not to give it to them, as they’re human, and tried something they weren’t good at, and nobody else did that. There’s no obligation attached to it either way.

As observer?
blah even our arguments are boring right now. FFG give us something to talk about, please.
I'm going on a road trip for work today. I'd say that raises the chances of anything happening today by at least 5%.
You're welcome. ![]()

Actually several people on the stream observed one playing cheating, changing his dial after his opponent moved and blocked his move. Several people called people at the event and had them talk to the TO and the FFG team. This was a National level or higher event.

Can you please do this more often, it’s hit rate is remarkable.

Question: why did they make this change? Do they not want people watching streams to participate? It seems like they made good catches and were beneficial to the games being played. Is there something else here I’m not catching?

It wasn’t so much the catching but the way they were officially involving...
fir example, in the big cheat case, the guy had been drawn quartered and had effigies burned before he’d even talked to a judge.
... I mean, I’m pretty hardcore about rules and despise cheating, but even then, there are rules about rules and mob law cannot stand.
but know for example, even if you are not a legal spectator, what you say and do on FFGs online platforms can get you banned from real events.
So looks like news will be slim to none till May 1st.

I kind of assumed that before this announcement, but at least we now have an actual date. It makes sense they can announce and then hopefully have some models on display. Hopefully they will actually answer the “something big is coming” question.

I mean, that happened too, several months ago, on the Gold Squadron Podcast at the last Worlds, I believe. But it's not the recent Canadian Nationals event to which I'm referring...
