Was at the closest store to me last night for the first time in a couple weeks, found out they pulled the last remaining Armada stuff of the shelves. Hurts bad man. Good thing they've got plenty of room for Legion though...

I was just about to post a sarcastic comment about how the Crab Clan from the last article were holding back news so more Lot5R stuff could arrive.
Seems like i was right.

I don’t play Legion, but this idea looks awesome! I would love to see something like this for Armada.

I do like the prize for best painted mini. That would be a fun small addition to the Armada kits.

I've thought they should do more wide ranging events for awhile

Not unless you wanted your local community to evaporate.
A lot of people only got into X-Wing and Armada because while there were more popular miniature games out at the time...you didn't have to paint these. Having an implicit 'yeah you have to paint them' for tournaments or longer-term events would be...reallllly contradicting the entire point that many got into the game for.
(Keeping the "disgusting people who paint their models" in their own game, distinct from "cool players that fly what FFG gives them", seems a reasonable thing to me.

Yes , because an additional prize for going to the effort somehow ends up with you must paint everything to play.

Rules for 40k were 3 colors min for a long time at most big tournaments. /shrug.

Pretty sure nobody’s advocating for FFG to become GW. They were motivated to try that kind of nonsense to get people buying their paints, after all.

Be real, now. You've been to enough competitive-level events. You provide an array of prizes, but then say 'oh, no, these prizes you guys can't even qualify for because you didn't paint your ships and just flew them out of the box'? That's going to annoy people. Unless you're offering things like paints or something - you know how idiotically competitive people get over acrylic tokens or rulers or whatever. And for a game specifically advertising that you don't need to do anything out-of-the-box to play it? That's a bad look.

Why have a first place prize only one person can win, then? You mean you have to play to win to get that?! How is that fair?! I haven’t won a competitive game in over a year!
...
As long as it’s ADDITIONAL and not IN LIEU of a “standard” prize... the more prize categories the better... but to reiterate - it must not be at the cost of a standard prize.
We have to accept prize distribution is inherently unfair... especially when ENTIRE CAMPAIGN ALT ART KITS ARE NOT DELIVERED TO A COUNTRY DESPITE PRE ORDETS...
...
And I mean? I’m s veteran of Arcanacon 40k, where paint quality is part of your overall score!
So they had a best overall that included generalship points, painting and sportsmanship, but also had tops of each individual category, and as you win one, you were ineligible for another...
no system is perfect.
but if they simply added a best painted to the prize kit as it stands now... good ducking show!

That's a bit of a misdirection. It is entirely fair that there is only one first place prize, because that is the entire point of the competition and everybody has the chance at winning purely through participating.
Prize distribution is thus inherently fair, as everybody has an equal chance of getting something and only their own skills determine the outcome.
Having, however, a prize for which some are automatically disqualified is unfair, as suddenly only a select few can ever win it, unless everybody changes their ways. And when this concerns a basic aspect of the game, this goes against the reasons some got into it for. It is thus undesirable to force people to contradict their original reasons for getting into the game purely to win a prize. Of course, you could say nobody's forcing them, but if the prize is useful to everybody, you kind of are, as they wouldn't want to pass it up. The only thing, I think, that would make it acceptable is if the prizes were directly related to the niche for which it is given, such as paint for best painted mini, as suggested above.

I don’t feel it’s a misdirection at all.
Esoecially when FFG doesn’t even follow the prescribed arrangement you desire themselves...
... I mean, how many times has a Rebel only player won an Imperial card (and vice versa)?
Why prize range rulers ALL THE TIME when good players already have them?
No, I shall continue to prize whatever the **** I **** well want, as long as I’m open about it at event announce.

I meant the misdirection from prize to main prize. The former can be unfair, the latter is fair.
As for the prizes themselves, those are the breaks. People know what they are competing for. The fact that a rebel-only won an imp card through skill does not reflect on the fairness of the prize, but on the content thereof.

To add to the collection of incorrectly sized plastic?
At the moment TOS have a prize that they distribute AS YHEY SEE FIT.
If I give that to best painted, what’s the harm?
Teally, complaining to me about prizing at a $5 tournament rips me right off... but again, that’s personal.

I got a prize for "best sportsman" at one point. Sounds like some of these players and commenters could do with not winning that.
Also, point of note: You’re not disqualified... if you are unpainted, you just didn’t earn it... ?
I don't see an issue if they provide an extra card or two that was already in the prize pool (Like a TIE Interceptor Alt Art) for a best painted reward.
**** I wouldn't even be made if they took an existing version of a card in the pool and made it an Aurebesh version specifically for a paint reward and top prize or something like that.
It isn't like people aren't putting effort when it comes to painting skills.
As long as they are something exclusive to that category I am fine with it.
On the other hand id be pissed if i walked into a tournament and found out i couldnt win a prize (unless it was paints i suppose) simply because i cant afford to paint my gear.
P.s. and by afford i dont just mean money wise. Time wise also counts
