Feel joy in you ur heart that you've never Warhammered before (very all free funds consuming). I remember many good and bad things about it in both flavors. I must say I always enjoyed painting and playing. But it should be noted not all of GW sculpts we're good looking...... Some were\are ugly as sin. And cost just as much as lunch for a month.

I thought about getting some of the models to use as terrain for Legion. Then I saw the prices and said no thank you, custom printed 3D pieces from Imperial Terrain are cheaper and more thematic. I am going to try to make some stuff from scratch but just simple things like cargo containers and random scatter pieces.

I want to see pictures of the contents of the box. The unpainted, unassembled models would give me a better idea of the quality I think. Then again it might not because I too have never bought any GW minis, or any outside of Armada and X-Wing so might not be as good a judge as most. I do like what I've seen of the rules but need to know even more. I'm definitely in for the first wave and I think/hope we have good things ahead.

Again, check fantasyflightgames.es. The Spanish site expansions announcement showed unpainted minis!

Thanks man.I had not seen that.

I’m starting to feel less and less excited over armada due to the long wait for this wave. I think I’d honestly prefer them not to give us any articles or news on new releases until they are on the boat. I do worry that they are doing more harm than good by getting the community excited 5 months before the product is released. I am probably wrong but it does feel like the community is shrinking. Also I realize that this is probably just the way it is since it’s been like this for every wave. It’s just not the way I would run things in a dream world where I was in charge.

I get where your coming from. I think that the Armada community online is a bit boom bust. Mainly due to how ffg handles their marketing. They rev us up a month before releasing the new kits, within a month of them hitting they announce the next wave. This generate approx 3 months of intense interest. A lull then it starts again in a few months. This is a mixed bag in terms of good and bad.

Good: reels new players into the cycle and reinvigorates the veterans. Also give the community a constant timeline for new stuff.

Bad: interest can seriously drop if the new seems lacking. Hard to keep new players interested mid wave drop due to lack of hyping.

All in all their method could be much worse. I honestly believe they try to Pace the game releases to keep thing alive and well balanced. Also there is the small problem of the number of Capitol ships that are 'hard' cannon (Disney sanctioned) not that many.

Mind you this is just my opinion on the subject, didn't want the obligatory Armada is dead thing starting up without a little calming. Now that I have done my duty, you may now commence the funeral dirg.

It is definitely a roller coaster. You get peaks around announcements, articles, and releases. You get some mid points around tournaments and events. Then you get a lot of valleys in between.

We are very much in a valley at the moment, but it will probably pick up by then end of the month. Hopefully.

I would be more likely to blame this on slow release pace rather than marketing.

X-Wing's 2017 releases:

  • Sabine's TIE / Upsilon Shuttle / Quadjumper (February)
  • Epic C-ROC Cruiser (June)
  • Auzituck / Scurrg / TIE Aggressor (July)
  • Guns for Hire (October)
  • Phantom II / Kimogila / Star Wing (Q4)
  • TIE Silencer / Resistance Bomber (Q4)

Armada's 2017 releases:

  • Hammerhead / Quasar (July)
  • Profundity / Chimaera (Q4 we hope)

To be honest X-Wing releases stuff too fast for my taste (although maybe the shorter games make it easier to adjust), but it's pretty obvious who's the second son.

(Disclaimer: I don't believe we're fully that far below X-Wing in FFG's priorities, I think it's just a bad year for us. Armada had a full eight SKUs in 2016, albeit they were all crammed into Q3/Q4. If you got into Armada in August '16, when wave 3/4 came out, then you went from drowning to drought real quick.)

I like the slower release. X-Wing is too fast. Armada could be a little faster, but honestly a slow, steady pace of well thought out/well tested pieces is preferable to an overwhelming deluge of random stuff tossed into X-wing.

I agree, but I wish they would drop every 6 months consistently, with full marketing support.

The FFG Livestream just started up with L5R Worlds.

So the point to take here is there is probably not going to be any announce until Monday at the earliest, due to all resources going into November Worlds for Non-Star Wars Properties.

Joy. I’m already about to overdose on L5R and GoT.

Im starting to miss the days of the unending Runewars onslaught.

From all 13 people playing it at Worlds?

Is that the numbers? Oof, not great. Then again, what was Armada like year 1?

That's what I heard. Like, second- or third-hand, so... for what that's worth. :)

I think Runewars has had a bit of a rough start and what thunder it did have has been seriously damaged by the announcement of Legion.

Yeah I feel for the people that bought big into runewars early, bought two core sets etc... It feels (as a on player) that the oxygen flow to that game has been much less than Armada I its launch year. The first expansions and the 3rd and 4th factions took a long time to come out to the point that Legion has announced before runewars is even properly established. The other hassle for runewars (my impression only of course) is that when I see it played it looks very restricted in how it sets up and plays, almost every game looks the same. And I don't think that was ever a problem in Armada. This of course would have ben mitigated if more expansions had dropped more quickly. Maybe they should even have held off 3rd and 4th factions for a while and built up more options for the humans and undead?

it was crazy to me that they rushed the 3rd and 4th factions year 1. I have no idea how they're going to balance those even reasonably close. I'm sort of hoping for a third armada faction but scum has been so "meh" that I'm not sure it'll be any good. it might be cool to see armada branch out into a new time period too so they can open up some of the ship types.

Because Runewars was based on existing IP, and those other two factions are, basically, Fan-Favourites from Runebound... You were excluding a wide playerbase by not including them as quickly as possible... So it is a creative gamble, basically... Get a wide base, and when things whittle down with fewer dedicated players, at least you've managed to scrounge a few from the old Runebound guard with popularity.

Without it, just doubling down on Humans/Undead, you're basically only targeting 1/3rd of your actual demographic... Sure, you'll hold onto that 1/3rd really strongly, but its probably less than getting 1/2 of everything else instead...

I'm not crazy thinking there are only like 4 or 5 units for each side right? It just seems incredibly thin compared to something like 40k or WMH.

Unfair comparison, I feel... Everything is incredibly thin compared to 40k or WMH when you intend to do so on a number-of-units basis.

With 30+ Years in the business, it is fundamentally impossible to expect to rival a massed battle game like 40K in a year... Even the "Cheap Knockoffs" like Kings of War struggled to do that for quite some time, and they did it on the strength of just being alternative models with a bare skin of basic rules..... Given another year of production and release, Runewars will be well on the way... But the game will inherently be more limited due to the upgrade card mechanic.

To be fair, the amount of bloat in Warmachine/Hordes is insane right now and PP's business model shows no signs of stopping that any time soon. It's really unappealing for newer players, current players who want to stop bleeding money, and retailers who tire of the ever-expanding shelf space WM/H takes up year after year.

One million likes, this.

X-Wing article up early.

am I being paranoid in wondering if Armada Wave 7 was put on the back burner so all 5 new X-Wing expansions would release at the same time?

We won't have an article this Friday either :(

Just another day of being the red headed step child of FFG Star Wars products.
