You know what popped up on my Facebook Memories as 1 Year ago today?

My birthday magic failed me last week.

...
I admit - I'm openly biased and not buying into a lot of the doomsaying, because as a Non-American, I simply see this as a "Fairing up" of the system, with the United States now treated the same way as they treat the rest of the World - with Single Exclusive Distributors...
...
But its a word of mention to people, as a lot of people have piped up and stated that Alliance doesn't have the best of records... Honestly, I don't see how any of 'em do, but that's me
I'm not a doomsayer, because we'll still get our things, and it won't be that bad (I hope). However, I don't think it's good.
Hopefully, it will create simplicity and accountability - Alliance being more responsive to a more significant (to them) customer. That said, I doubt it. I have no knowledge of Alliance as a specific business, but I also hear what you're saying; they're not that great. I'll be asking my FLGS store owner who his distributor is, and how he thinks this will affect the supply chain between FFG and me. Maybe the economy of scale will help.
But on an abstract level, it seems to me that the concentration undermines competition, and the incentive for competing distributors to serve both FFG and the gaming stores better. I doubt that the economies of scale will measure up to this.
And, yes, you have Lion Rampant, and I have not heard you sing its praises, so in that case the single-distributor model hasn't worked out all that well. The hope would be that FFG would diversify in Canada, not concentrate in the US.
Also, as much as I LOVE FFG, it seems to me looking from the outside...
Distribution was never their cup of tea...

The hope would be that, but its also not the case.
They're moving away from Lion Rampant. The Scuttlebutt that a small local french-language distributor with somehow a worse reputation will be picking things up...
I wish things were diversified overall - competition is good - but I also understand their "LGS focus" at the same time, which the narrowing of distributors gives them greater control over...
So its a sticky situation... I guess the point I was trying to get to (and failing) is that a Single-Distribution Model is not the end of the world for the United states (as some poeple are claiming)... it works in the rest of the world. Is it as great as it could be? Hell no. But it, at the very least, still works.
I'm predicting the Hammerhead article title:
"Prepare For Impact!"
right?
"Stop, Hammer time"

"L'Armada pour tous de Canada? Non! C'est seulement pour Quebec!"

Oh, no question, I am in full-throated support of an FLGS-centric model of distribution. You and I have been part of countless debates about that issue here on this forum. If this allows them to force online distributors to charge the same (or nearer to the same), then I am all in favor of it. (But, if anyone wants to re-hash that topic, I invite you to necro this thread: To LGS or not to LGS? That is the question.) I just don't know if concentration of distribution is the only/best way to do that.

No, it is not the end of the world, but I doubt that it's a step in the right direction. It just kinda feels like Asmodee wants to become the next Games Workshop, but then with a wider selection of games. They probably have a different ostensible philosophy (not actually having their own stores), but it does seem like wanna-be monopolists do what wanna-be monopolists do.
I predict we're gonna hit refresh 18 times...and get nothing.

I really wonder if they do this stuff on purpose now.

There's been no update of status today.
If they update on Monday, it will depend on wether their date check updates, or wther their full status updates... In the last few releases, the date has updated first, without a status change, and then a few days later, the date updates a secnd time with the status change.
If there is a Status Change on Monday or Tuesday - Release will be the 15th.
If there is a date check change, but no status, on Monday or Tuesday, Release is at least the 22nd. Because it'll basically be 2 weeks after the actual status change.

Or sooner.
Optimism at its best.
I had my good optimism and Karma burned out and used today after the thunderstorm waited until after leaving Calgary to spawn a Tornado.
As far as I'm concerned, that's about all my good luck can store up at once.
Clearly the only reasonable course of action is to drink more scotch in future.
