I just so badly want an article about ANYTHING so I no longer have to hear any of the following:
1) Well, I've watched one game of Star Wars Armada. Here's how I fix Rieekan, because I know more than both game designers and all of you who have played for ages.
2) Here's my ideas for new mechanics, ships, Commanders, and every other thing under the sun that are both undercosted for a real game and/or make it so I effectively auto-win as soon as I put this down in front of me. I am not a crackpot.
3) I want my old 2 ship fleet to be competitive again. What if we changed the rules ENTIRELY to benefit me, no matter if things have changed since wave 1?

Just as a lot of people got frowny at the top 8 of world's containing 0 imperials and mostly Rieekan aces?

The unfortunate thing is - these aren't really new, they're just louder.
DiabloAzul and GileadPaellon were great back in the day because he took a lot of those "new mechanics and ships" and formalised it somewhat, subjecting them to rigorous testing and feedback, before looking at the "clone wars" edition of release for their fan stuff... Mostly, the formalisation of that let people at least aim for a direct comparison.
FoaS and the KDYards then took that over when things died down and people were busy with Life. There's just not revival of the design formalisation, because there's fewer gaps to fill, and minority voices are louder...
That, and it repeats because people want their voice to be heard, so they create new threads rather than posting in the large threads where their voices are lost in the crowd.

I don't know why.
The vast majority of them weren't there to make a difference.
Certain gaming groups openly admitted they also stacked it in that favour - therefore tainting the data and the competition somewhat.

My complaint is not that the build is strong (I think there's Imperial ways to beat it, having seen it being beaten in action repeatedly by a specific build that's competitive against it and several other builds....). My complaint is that everyone has their own plan on How to Fix Rieekan, and many of them are, for lack of a better term, bad. "Let's make Rieekan cost 68 points and when his ships die, everything gets wiped off of them and they can't have any upgrades and blah blah blah. Also, if you take Rieekan your opponent should get to punch you in the nuts at least once for free, because the spirit of fairness or whatever." The build needs to be addressed, but the general attempts by the forumites are not particularly helpful, in my opinion.

Essentially, Yes. In their testing, they found it strong, so they all took variations of it, since they were travelling as a group.
From what I understand from their own words, anyway... I may have misconstrued them, I don't discount that as a possibility - but that seemed to be the intent. Even normally hardcore Imperial players of that group took it.
