Article Predictions. Mostly General Discussion. But there's definately some Predictions scattered throughout.

By Drasnighta, in Star Wars: Armada

TOO quiet for my taste.

While i'm not a massive fan of Dr. Aphra and evil R2-D2 and C-3PO I do think they're fairly cool additions to the canon and its cool to see them make it into IA.

What I find VERY interesting is that if those characters are allowed into the miniatures world then we may see Aphra's starship in a second Rogues and Villains pack.

The Ark Angel

latest?cb=20150404060303

The Archangel is something I need Fractalsponge to take a shot at... With the Comic Asthetic, I just... I don't like it, but I want to see its potential...

I dont want that ship because theres no f*cking way i can paint that at armada scale.

I think I could.

I painted Nose-Checkers on Binyare Pirate Z-95s that I made from X-Wings....

...

Stupid thing is, if this was an R&V sized model... I'd be compelled to offer my standard "hero" price to replicate that paint job.

With that level of detail, reasonably so I would think.

My standard Hero is $10.

Like I said, reasonable. Once I'm out of school I might start commissioning you. In the meantime I'm a bit cash-strapped.

No worries :)

As it is, I'mgoing to anecdote some more, random style. Last Night, I actaully got out on a Weeknight to play a game of Armada... A second CC Campaing (this one I'm just playing in, not organising or anything... And as one of the more veteran players (we have 2 new people and 1 returning hiatus player) , I shifted away from my usual rebels and took Imperials.

So, **** Move. I started with 4 Ships.

The smallest of which was a Victory.

Well. Two Victories.
And an Interdictor.
And an ISD. With Grand Moff Tarkin.

Since I had no fighters at all to start, I tossed on a Targeting Scrambler, and QLTs for both Victories. Just, y'know, in case I come up against someone who is fighter heavy.

So, here we go. Game one. Rebels have Initative. Their newer Player with Sato declares a Hyperlane Raid on Crash's Drift, and my Grand Admiral slaps me on the back and says "You're up, Dawg..."

... Seriously. You want me to Run the Hyperlane Raid... Which is basically a Blockade Run. WITH THREE SHIPS THAT ARE SPEED 2.

So here I am, sitting down, doing math... "If I execute more than 6 clicks of yaw with a Victory throughout the game, I run the risk of it not getting to the deployment zone... Okay, balls to the walls it is!"

So I line up. There is no castling here. I mean, if it is a castling, its because I made a giant Freaking Castle out of my Four Wedges and Threw it at the Enemy.

At Speed 2.

Directly forwards.

He had a Liberty Star Cruiser, 2 Nebulon Bs, 2 GR75s, and a Horde of Z-95s (with Shara and an A-Wing backing them up) to provide some disposable cover.

I deployed as far forward as I could, and set speed 2.

He deployed halfway back in his Zone, and started Speed 2.

First turn, I moved foward.

He slowed down to Speed 1 with the combat ships in the front and the flotilla in the rear.

The only advantage I had here was there was some distance between his Combat Ships... But my ISD-1 with Tarkin was facing almost directly at his Liberty..... With a Cloud of Fighters in the Front.

For four turns, we advanced with no shooting.... Only in the Fourth, was combat finally joined.

It involved my 2 Victories lobbing some long range reds at a Neb-B, and watching them miss or be evaded, but a careful maneuver on my part angled one VSD for the next round. The ISD and the Liberty traded some long range fire. Mon Karen made me choose the Brace or Redirect, and with 4 damage flat, I decided on the Brace and just took it. I already had an Engineering Token stored.

In the end, I got off very lightly. Z-95s on bombing runs missed, and took some QLTs in the face for their trouble, which made them back off and elect to not shoot at me... As they quickly were reduced to 1 hit point. The game was "decided" when the Liberty ended up at point black range, taking a massive blast to the face, almost losing all of its shields, and 4 hull points, and then figuring the best place to be was Speed 3 and behind the ISD, flying away.... Which meant my ISD made the Blockade Run - as only Ramming would stop it.

Was going to be 15-0 to me, at the very least.

Then, Turn 5, the Nebulons decided to make a Hyperspace Break for it... The one on the ISD flank did. The one on the VSD Flank was vexed by the Interdictor, but it wouldn't have mattered anyway... In Saving the Liberty (as the Rebel was first player), he doomed the Nebulon, which had wandered into close range of a VSD, which was double arcing it. In the Side. By the smallest of margins...

Ship Debris.

The ISD also caught a flotilla in its side arc, and managed to roll Blank, Acc, Hit/Crit, Hit/Crit, for some of my only Black Hit/Crits of the game....

All Four Imperial Ships made it into the Rebel Deployment Zone.

At Speed 2.

Somehow.

Rebel Losses:

- Nebulon B

- GR75 Medium Transports, with Repair Crews

Imperial Losses:

- 2 Shields on the ISD were not repaired by Endgame. Every bit of Shield Damage done by fighters was repaired by Endgame.

We had mixed results the rest of the Campaign Turn. The Grand admiral Lost his close game, but not horridly so, and although we "lost" the Show of Force, we still managed to take out both Stations to net Resources before the Admiral in question wisely decided to Hyperspace out in Turn 5 as the tide was turning against him...

So with an initial build of 399, a whack of Refit Points that are useless, and 82 Resource Points with which to expand to 481 with... I might take some Fighters.

First up is the Interdictor, getting the Title and Grav Shift Reroute. Because Awesome.

I might do something Crazy... Ruthless on one VSD, Flight Controllers on the Other... Then look at picking up Bossk, Valen, and some generic TIEs...

The last 19 odd points can be like, a Lambda and Leading shots for the ISD... Assuming the next game doesn't go horridly.

...

Once again, Mikael will be pleased... I win, when I play Imperials.

Bah! Gonna be a Runewars day today. I'm ready for something...most importantly an updated FAQ...but anything will be appreciated.

1/19 - US Nationals announcement

12/23 - Q1 Kits.

Both were really for all StarWars games.

Last true only Armada News was...

12/16 - Previews of Corellian Campaign and Wave Jive Squads.

nice write up draw!

but speed two doesn't inhibit the imps ability to win at all.

New Canon News Alert

Pablo Hidalgo recently tweeted that the main galactic map we see in the Essential Atlas hasnt changed and is still canon. The name of the systems are canon. Its the stories attatched to the star systems that are no longer canon.

Tight Deadlines this year.

12 days to Pre-register. Then 10 days to Pay, for Champs, it looks like.

Somewhat Glad that a Worlds Trip is off the cards for me for at least the next 4 years... Can not stress out about it.

'course, that also means GenCon is also off the list... dammit.

Just ordered Wave V and the Corellian Conflict. So excited.

I tempered myself and only got two Arquitens. I supply for both factions with the person I usually play so I thought one new rebel model and three Imperials wouldnt be great balance. Especially since i've heard the Pelta isnt nearly as good of a ship as thr Arq.

The Pelta is a unique bird. I mean, I love it, as the rebels. Absolute love it. So much it helps out with.

But more than one, well, I'm really trying hard to Justify a Second, and I probably won't - just like the Gladiator - One's a Given, a Second is a Luxury, and I just don't have the money in comparison to needing other things...

..

The Arq though? Man, that's a good little ship, and spammable, and gives the Rebel in you some Reinforced Blast Door action that can be very helpful with your Hull Issies...

Yea, I'm going to get a second arc at some point just for the upgrades. I'm sure I will run 2 at some point, but I'd never run more than that. I'd get a second Pelta just for upgrades as well.

I got two because it is policy for me to get 2 of everything, but I'll be getting 2 more arqs and won't be getting any more peltas.

So another "Game of Thrones" article.

I'm not taking any kind of issue with the game(s) as I'm sure they are great. What I was wondering was, "how do they get so many damned articles?" Then I looked at the "Game of Thrones" products page. Holy crap. There is "A Game of Thrones: The Card Game" and "Game of Thrones: The Card Game."

Weird.

Ready for any kind of news. FAQ. Strategy article. Word that Armada is still cool.

Anything.

Armada is still cool.

Did that help? :D

Seriously though, I've resigned myself to waiting until GAMA for anything. Mid March isn't that far away, right? Ah, who am I kidding. This wait is worse than the cone of silence surrounding new Blood Bowl stuff...

I think its easier to write about decks in a card game. And honestly, we have so much community created strategy content that I feel like anything they give us in that vein wont be up to snuff. We have an awesome network of bloggers and casters.

What I would love to see is for them to make a developer available to one of our many awesome casters/bloggers for an interview after a wave drops. So no spoilers, but a chance to peek behind the curtain and get an idea what their thoughts were.

GAMA is 3 Weeks away, and still my first and best solid bet...

For the meantime though, I need to drum up some more commission work... My Desk has been basically empty since I lost my Signature here... >.>

And the more I read into things, the harder it is to bet against an Imperial Quasar.
