No, that's a known piece of Legends Lore...
They've had the ability to maintain the two standard laser cannons in the chin mount, as well as the Quad linked in the WIngtips
But it was a horrid drain of power and the interceptor bled speed when it was outfitted that way, so it was rarely used. Mostly, you only saw it on the Specially modified Royal Guard Interceptors that had all of the added stuff to make them super-special

Hehe. Wonder if this is what lead to the concept of the TIE Defender. 
I think the development process went:
TIE Advanced (Which in the original lore I believe was just a prototype) -> TIE Avenger -> TIE Interceptor -> TIE Defender
TIE Advanced was originally Vader's personal fighter to replace his Eta-2 Actis interceptor (which was also developed partly by him, Plo Koon and Saese Tiin) The Avenger was developed from that in parallel with the Interceptor (which was actually entered service BEFORE the Avenger) the Defender was designed totally separately and in high secrecy, but as far as I know independently from the Avenger, and was designed because the Rebels got the X-Wing which was supposed to be the Empire's new space superiority starfighter.
X--Wing (Finally) got their Scum Epic today.

I always appreciate news, but the Epic Scum while they're still waiting for the remainder of Wave 10 is... loopy. Like, can't they manage to finish something before starting another?

Scouting over for interesting mechanics, really, all we get shown is their ability to change out upgrades "on the fly"... Both in regular play (one shot) and Epic (multiple)..
