Article Predictions. Mostly General Discussion. But there's definately some Predictions scattered throughout.
THANKSGIVING IS ABOUT THE FREAKIN MACY'S DAY PARADE AMIRITE FOLKS?
Kinda sad the holiday is so commercialized now with Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
I'm all for good deals, but growing up I spent the holiday season with my extended family and we rotated who hosted Xmas and we all got together. Maybe I jsut got older, but it's lost its charm.
I also worked at Wal-Mart for 2 years and the holidays literally drained my soul, so maybe it was that. Never ever ever ever going to work retail again after that nightmare.
I feel like they missed a really good opportunity for alliteration with Cyber Monday.
Shoulda been Cyber Saturday.
Or Cyber Sunday.
Freakin Mondays.

Agreed. Probably had something to do with how long it takes for a tryptophan coma from the turducken to wear off ...
So I had read Heir to the Empire but never the full Thrawn Trilogy until recently. I just finished the Last Command...Wow. I'm usually not impressed by Star Wars books, there are some exceptions for sure, but Thrawn is an incredible villain. I found his final scene rather sad and now i'm a little disappointed that it's over. All three books despite some small problems, i've never seen a writer use the word sardonic so frequently, were really great.
This makes me really want to see Thrawn come into the game as a fleet commander and the Chimera as a Star Destroyer title. Hopefully Rebels introduces Palleon and we can get him as an officer card.
It's because Canadian Thanksgiving isn't 'Murica Thanksgiving. Basically a holiday where you make way too much food and get together with family. In grade school I learned it was about Native Americans and Pilgrims sharing
their food together "giving thanks" to hospitality of each others company.
That's the "feel good story" that was taught in Wisconsin. Just stay away from the "genocide of an entire way of people" and you'll understand the true meaning of what it means to be an American.
Oh, you also have to eat a turkey after you fill it with bread. We have some weird traditions.
As a Wisconsinite, I'm curious which district that was taught in. Not saying it's wrong or anything, just wondering. I remember being taught a feel good story more along the lines of President Lincoln instituting 'Murica Thanksgiving as a national holiday after the end of the civil war to help the recently divided country begin the healing process.
I think that's how thanksgiving as a holiday came to be, yes.

That's basically the correct version. Near as we can tell Native Americans assisted the early Plymouth settlement (the Puritans just were not well-equipped whatsoever to maintain any kind of sustainable settlement in the New World; if it wasn't so tragic and horrible it would be humorous) and that was swell. The subsequent... basically everything involving Native Americans from that point on gets overall much sadder.*
*And the beforehand if you consider the fact that European-borne illnesses brought over by the original Spanish and Portuguese explorers (and then reinforced through new waves brought by subsequent settlers) had spread through the Americas killing off 80%-90% of the native peoples. The European settlers of North America were effectively landing in a post-apocalyptic country. Diseases, however, with rare exceptions (stories of small pox blankets and such) at least have the upside of not being deliberately spread for malicious intent, whereas systems of exploitation, discrimination, and genocidal violence are the results of conscious decisions by men and are therefore more morally troubling.

Except for those smallpox blankets they handed out to the natives.
That was malicious deliberate spread of disease!

I was more referring to the next 17 years of hostile takeover and land seizure that culminated in the slaughter of 700 members of the Pequot Tribe in 1637 by the very same Puritans. Smallpox blankets were certainly a thing. Just not a Puritan thing. Why bother with a slow death when you can surround a festival and just kill everyone all at once?
Edited by TruthinessSo by the mood in this topic, the next artical for SWA should be about the Arquitens and how it surrounds and kills local primtives *cough* Rebels with those side arcs?
And because I rarely pass up a chance to be "that guy," shouldn't the Imperials start calling them side arqs?

*groan*
I'm more upset that I didn't think of this, really...
It was in Green Bay. I distinctly remember learning about Pilgrims and Native Americans in 2nd grade and how the Natives helped feed and shelter the Pilgrims from Plymouth Rock. Not saying any of this is fact, simply what was taught in school. As a Wisconsinite, I'm curious which district that was taught in. Not saying it's wrong or anything, just wondering. And then, in a "Red Wedding" level breach of hospitality...
History of colonization, effectively:
Finally, a new Star Wars article!
I don't even play X-Wing, but this indicates FFG is running out of ideas:
At a base cost of fifteen squad points, these statistics make the quadjumper look a little like a cheaper, less durable TIE bomber, especially since the quadjumper can, in fact, equip a bomb. However, these statistics don't really suggest the quadjumper's role within the game; more than anything, the quadjumper's identity stems from its maneuver dial and the unique "reverse" maneuvers it allows you to execute.
Seems like they just made this ship as filler:
No, the quadjumper is not going to outrun a TIE/fo fighter in any fair sort of race. It won't even outrun a TIE/fo fighter in a race that's only just a little bit unfair. The TIE/fo fighter is a fast and agile performance starfighter. The quadjumper is a spacetug. The TIE/fo fighter was built for streaking across battlefields, even as it turned, weaved, and rolled to avoid enemy fire. The quadjumper was built to maneuver containers quickly through orbital transfer yards.
That said, I don't play X-Wing. Maybe the ship is going to be good. But from the outside looking in, new X-Wing content looks really boring and bland. Like Sabines Tie or the new Falcon.
I'm worried this will happen to Armada if FFG keeps putting out multiple waves per year. I don't want rehashed content. I want original content supplemented with upgrades that still make older waves viable options, such as new titles/ship cards.

Seems like so far FFG has kept everything relatively balanced, I mean H9 turbolasers made a come back at worlds I never thought I would see that card. Alot of the core set cards are becoming slightly better so it shows they are in fact keep those all in mind, and hopefully giving them Ideas for new cards.
Soon, got that stupid Quadjumper out of the way. Now the X-Wing people can shut up for a while and we can get to the meat of wave 5.
I'm not worried too much about Armada. FFG seems to space the releases of waves sufficiently enough that new ships are not quickly sifted into gameplay. The long breaks between releases allows designers a lot of time to brainstorm and we're nowhere near running out of capital ships for them to implement. If they run out of canon models for capital ships then they can just pull a CC and give us a variety of new ship cards and titles. Then we have all the sequel trilogy content and the prequel trilogy content. If the game becomes stale its on FFG and not the lore they draw from.
So I agree at a certain point yes newer ships will very much become a variation on a theme but I must counter, is that really a problem?
To me I invest in this game because primarily I love the models so from my perspective as a casual player, they could implement ships that totally feel like filler and i'll be fine as long as the model quality stays to par. However I don't think that will happen.
It just feels like their team said "Hey look what we made! We don't even know what it does, but it can move backwards! Don't worry, you can't kill a Tie with this, but look at this cool widget you can install. Pretty neat right?"
I'm sure it will find a niche like the Interdictor did. That's what I am worried about for Armada. Past Wave 10, will we get some filler ship with upgrades that you need for other ships/builds (Interdictor anyone??).
Hence why I said give us new, original content, and supplement it with cardboard packs like CC that changes the game and give us some more options for what we already have.
I am not worried - mostly because, as has been stated - Armada, as a #1, Learned from a lot of X-Wing Mistakes - and jumping too quickly on a release schedule, was one of them, I am sure.
The thing is, the ability to move backwards in X-Wing is a unique and one-of-a-kind ability...
You know how people have said "It would be cool to have a ship that could barrel roll, and be placed on the other side of the tool?" -- THIS IS X-WiNGS EQUIVELANT OF THAT.
This is them exploring a new area, rather than mindlessly rehashing...
...
So Wave 10 X-wing hs someting unique. We should put a piin in it, and reconvene the concept of failing metas and repetitive ships come Wave 11.
Hm...I never thought of a barrel roll maneuver for Armada. That sounds pretty cool.

It becomes broken when you can drop an ISD or Liberty on the other side of the tool. Try it and you'll see what I mean. The footprint is just too large for them to do it, and you get a massive shift. Maybe on small ships it can work but I'm still not sold on the idea.
"There's my Claim" Article hit, finally.
This one was close to a week overdue.
If the waves keep at a pace of say 2 waves per year (not using 3&4 as 2 waves only as 1) that would make wave 10 coming in 2019. Which X-wing has got to wave 10 in 4 years. Armada would be there in 4 as well, but with exception of not having to develop for a 3rd faction which gives more time dedicated to the 2 factions instead of 3.

Where are you getting two waves a year? This year its looking more and more like just one.
