From a certain point of view, all the Sector Fleet rules are just ways to make players more comfortable with larger scale play. I started playing, and me and a guy did something like a 600pt per player, just throw what you've got on a 4x6 table that happened to have a grasslands mat, then throw on some grass lands rock spire terrain to mix it up. It was a fun game, but people had never thought of just, doing something different to throw off some normalicy. I plan on making some rock spires that are the correct shapes for Armada, just for fun... but I like playing matchs that arn't normal.
Example. I wanna do a "Invasion of Geonosis" game, where one side is the "CIS" and the other is the "Republic" and use the Station Assault rules as the Droid Command ships launching. The attacker has 6 turns to destroy the Droid Control Ships. So the board would be a Desert board with rock spires. This is useful because most gaming stores will have rock spires, they are good desert terrain. We ran it as if a ship lands on the base of a terrain, then they are slowed down to speed 1, if the plastic were to contact the spire itself, then the ship takes a crit. This allowed you to use the terrain to your advantage (via slingshotting around terrain) at a risk.
But thats just me. Ignore me if you want.
