Article Predictions. Mostly General Discussion. But there's definately some Predictions scattered throughout.

By Drasnighta, in Star Wars: Armada

SWM28 will likely be, as others have mentioned, Rogue One themed content. As we see that Hammerheads were 27 (with showing up for the first time Live as far as I am aware) it makes sense. I agree with what others have said, it will likely be a "The Galactic Civil War" campaign. With the main movie battles being the forfront senarios. These will have cardboard objective items, and also...

Squadrons.

I would assume transports such as U-wings and the Stormtrooper Transport or something.

But other than that, who knows. Could be, anything.

Maybe they are using the same planners & comms team... πŸ˜•

It would be awesome if Starhawk would be announced. A nice debute indeed. Always wonder how it would look like from when I read the Aftermath books.

Or some more RO content or new campaign would be really sweet!

So.... legion specialists are out. No more previews for a short while.

Ssd shaped hole in the article program for tomorrow morning?

Its Friday 8.44 am already in Germany - give me my SSD Article !

We've still got a few X-Wing 2.3 previews to come... I wouldn't get too excited.

Although if they're going with a 31 January release today would be a good day to announce.

The interesting part of the Legion Specialists is that they only previewed the Rebel Side last week...

... No Preview of the Imperial Side before release. Boom.

That's true. Both packs are very similar. Comms specialist, repair droid, and medical droid all the same but 1 point cost and name. Other upgrades same in both packs. Only Command Cards differ but have mirror effects. There wasn't much left to reveal at all.

Still, you’d have thought with how the game has been advertised thus far, they’d make a point of pointing out point differences 😁

What a pointy remark! Would have been a pointless effort to try marketing even harder, maybe? πŸ˜‹

I predict that once the new season of Clone Wars launchs, we will see Clone Wars articles for Legion and Armada.

On a side note, I am likely going to go pick up the imperial specialists pack for my Ship Commanders project. I have a Legion mini of Tarkin, my most used commander, and I plan on getting the Grand Inquisitor for my Demo. I am going to use the imperial officer for one of my ship commanders, but I hope someone who does 3d printing does a male, uh... republic... officer as well...

Not going to name any names...

@melminiatures

The good news, I have come to the conclusion that Armada is definitely a Superior game to legion! (Although I may be baised)

I have been playing legion for a few months and inspite of steady news and Releases it is struggling to hold my attention over Armada haha. Turns out Defense dice in mini games are just an Inferior system to Armada's tokens

As someone who played imperials in X-wing for a little over a year I 100% agree, static defenses are far > dice.

Dam!

Leaked info of Guardians of the Republic Article AKA "In Defense of Peace"... illustration on pilot cards are full of CIS and Republic capital ships!

FFG...if you "go back in time".... I really forgive you all this information hiatus!

...just don't forget Braha'tok-class gunship

I totally agree in both points! Legion is fun, but it has not the strategic depth. Its less dynamic and more arbitrary than Armada. I got 4 Troopers, 1 Fleettroopers, 3 AT-RT, 1 Airspeeder, 1 Laser Cannon, 1 Wookies, Chewbacca, Leia, and Luke. And every list feels more or less the same. I think I wouldn't buy more Legion stuff if there would be anything of Armada I could buy instead.

And defense dice are a pain in the *****!

I think this may just be a rebel thing. I play Imperials and have plenty of variety in games, my play style has to change to fit the units and the objective/condition/deployment every game. While I still enjoy Armada more, Legion definitely doesn't feel same on the IMP side, at least to me. (Though, it does seem like when playing rebel players their armies all feel similar, may have to do with all the white defnse dice? IDK).

Legion, to me, is more beer and pretzels gaming than Armada is. Maybe because I tend to play casual (to get my painted stuff on a board) vs maximizing to win.

I definitely hopped on the hobby aspect for more than one reason. It's more satisfying than wins/losses.

Pretty much this. I didn't even buy legion to play originally. I just wanted to practice painting. I ended up trying it, cause, why not, and it was fun. Now I have a massive pile of units to paint. lol

Oh, yes! Let's derail this thread into a Legion discussion! πŸ˜ƒ

I think you are right, that Imps have to make the harder army building decisions. That's because you can't combine your commanders in an effective kind of way. And Vader is about the same cost as an AT-ST but he's better for troops. To include 1-2 AT-ST and Veers or Vader/Palpatine makes different playstyle. At Rebel side commanders synergize. I played Luke&Leia, Leia&Han. I will give Han&Luke a try, but I would never go back and take Luke as only commander, nor Leia, nor Han. The Airspeeder dies too fast so list diversity for me normally is limited to which 2 of 3 commanders, 4 or 5 Troopers, 1 or 2 AR-RT or none, 1-3 of 2 1/2 different special forces?

In Armada ships really change with titles, upgrades, and commander effects. You are allowed to take any number of any ship-type (except no more than 2 flotillas). The number and type of squadrons really matters.

For Legion FFG published 18 Unit ExpPacks already, not counting stuff already found in the Core Box. That seems to be the same number like wave 6 for Armada. But it's not even wave 3 equivalent in my eyes! Each Armada ship came with a new commander, new fleet wide useable upgrades. Each new wave had an impact for older ships, often making them more variable, more interesting.

Legion is fun. Legion develops and shows more facets with each new unit. But Legion only seems to progress faster. Its steps are very small in comparison to Armada's IMO. No need to be jealous!

Well with all the X-wing articles if Armada was supported at least half as much the game would grow like crazy.
