The original Epic Space Marine was an amazing game. I still have my entire collection. Unfortunately all subsequent editions moved away from several full companies of troops and vehicles, to several squads. I would love it if they went to a similar rule set as the original. Talk about your well balanced systems. Only the Emperator Titan was a bit OP, and even that was still vulnerable.

Yeah it was great. I very stupidly just threw it all away years ago because I didn’t play much.
Apparently the figures will be slightly bigger in the next version.
Emperor Titan was cool apart from the wallpaper size chart needed to operate it ?
I just found out that Armada or X-wing may have competition. Ares is releasing a BSG ship combat game at Gencon. These are the same people responsible for Wings of Glory and Sails of Glory, so the miniatures should at least be beautiful. I just don't know if it will be fleet or squadron scale.

I really like BSG however I dont think its verse is not complex enough to challenge Armada or X-Wing. It has limited ships and squadrons in canon and they are about ten years late for the hype ( should have released it during the miniseries ). Having said that if the miniatures are good I would definitely buy a battlestar 
on the other hand a proper Star Trek game in Armada style will be a good competition ( current one is not good, both the gameplay and quality of miniatures )
A decent Trek game would need a well thought out cloak mechanism.

I’ve seen some pictures over on BGG, and so far it just looks like Fighters. I’ve only seen cardboard standees for the ships; I don’t know if that will be the final product or if they will get plastic minis. If it does just have cardboard, I don’t see it being much competition for X-Wing unless the gameplay is drastically improved.

If the rumors are true about BFG coming back I think that'll be pretty serious competition, I never got to play it back in the day and about 75% of the reason I started playing armada is because I was wanting to play BFG but it didn't exist anymore. While I'm hesitant about 8th edition that same hesitance probably wouldn't be nearly as strong.

I used to play Hunt for Red October, and there they had an alternative map on the side where you played your sub and other player did not see where you were. The only drawback on that was both maps were divided into small areas so you could pinpoint the exact location which you can not do in Armada. ( Unless you begin to measure the map with lasers)
