Vykes' Shipwright

By Vykes, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

HEY VYKES, did you see that Mel has RAF Mk 1 types 2-5 up now!!!!

That I have, mate, that I have. I'm salivating over the type 3 and putting it on my list. Juuuust waiting for my next paycheck to pick up a pair. I figure I should at least get my dreads before snagging up even more.

...should is a wonderful non-binding word:P

Seriously, Mel, those things are frigging fantastic.

Cant wait to see your amazing paintjobs of those models.

I can't wait to see 'em either! They are incredible models. And to prove I haven't been slacking off, I did a bit of work on something I got in the mail :P

Thus, WIP: I haven't a clue on what the names on these'll be.

They don't look the greatest yet, but that's how all my ships start out :P The new Dreadnaughts have a ton of detail and the only fuzziness I had was right on the edges and inside of the thrusters. IE, peeeerfect to get that little fuzzy ion effect. Perfect, aaabsolutely perfect. Now lets hope I don't choke.

Those Dreadnaughts really look like Battlestars without the side parts!

They really do, and I'm super okay with that :P

You should use names from BSG for them. Maybe Valkyrie for one.

Cant wait to see your amazing paintjobs of those models.

BTW, thanks Mel for making the Mk1's. My wallet is not happy as my cart is now at $387 (added 1 type V's), and I am now 1 week away from pressing checkout!!!

Wellllllllllllllllllllllllllll you could paint them bright red.................so dey go fastah................n' call dems Gork n Mork...........like any goods Orks boys should! :P :D :)

-laughs- Great one Salty. Alright, the first ship of the line shall be the Valkyrie . I know that feeling too, I'm really just getting ready to nab a pair of the Type III's and maybe a few other things.

Well Mel, you did make it, you should know how pretty they are :P Absolutely fantastic ships. I don't want to look at the old dreads after these.

Niiice Stuh, nice.I need to do more red! But in battle it'll always be my 'kunnin' plan' "You killed Mork! Maybe Gork."... -scribbles down names for a scum fleet and possibly some other more 'boxy' rebel ships.-

Well, here's still a work in progress, but more emphasis on progress. The base plates are basically done, I still have some potential lights, markings, details, touch ups, and I'm trying to figure out if I want red or blue style engines. Any thoughts would be appreciated! So, we have the Valkyrie . I'll see if I can clean up the shine on the next layer of dullcoat. And the sister ship is just drying on her first coat. It's cleaner and a touch less blue. Got it finished up to the same non-glowy standard and replicated the colour of the Valkyrie .

Valkyrie and Magnetar

Valkyrie:

Colour is a little more neutral from the pre-filter and first pass dullcoat. I tried to get the tone closer to the original.

Tentatively named Dreadnaught: Magnetar

I still need to figure out if I want some more markings on them, the engine colour, and if I want to add some numbers to make them more readily identifiable (I'm thinking of some white numbers on a large plate on the aft, or on the prow beneath the armour.

Be-ootiful! Epic work as always Vykes

OMG that blue is amazing! Really well captured from that render too. Personally I think a deep red engine glow would look cool but I could see an all blue look working as well!

Thanks mates! I do what I can 54NCH32. -laughs- I'm glad you like it Zen, mate! I sorta pioneered the look on those ESB Ties! Including some lessons learned about using the proper medium for a good clean non splotchy filter wash. Hmm, a deep red engine glow would look pretty great. I wonder to what degree and warmth I should highlight it. It could really work and separate them from the 'proper' blue engines on the Imperial ships.

-smirks- and back to some IA stuff after one extreeemely long week on the scaffolds, eh?

Gorgeous work! Although, there would be no brown rust in space... do Dreadnaughts do atmospheric flying? But regardless of geeky nitpicking, those are some beautiful ships.

micro-metor strikes and flying though gaseous space anomolies (like nebulas). And it seems from the new canon (ie Rebels) most imperial ships do operate some in atmosphere.

I was gonna mention micrometer strikes and different sorts of gas clouds mixing with the potential for leaks, but the cold hard truth of the matter is that I'm more than willing to throw science under the bus to make something visually interesting :P Plus, the original mock ups have what looks like dust and rust in some sections too, who am I to second guess the fractly-one.

Thanks mates. Honestly, I'm loving these new dreads. I may snag 2 more to 'fill in' for my VSD's in an outer rim fleet.

Outer rim fleet, like say...The Ceknell Sector?

Oh, that just might be a potential location for an Outer Rim fleet of such a type and caliber, Salty :P

I got one update and I realized I have 3 separate story updates for Ceknell. Why have I not been updating that... hmm.

I say throw out convention and do orange engines. It would work really well with th blue. Alternate if you want to keep them sorta creepy and old looking, use purple for your engines.

Science and Star Wars don't really mix anyway... space wizards with laser-swords kind of put paid to that XD

. $300, eh? That's a scary enough order. Curious what you've got in the basket there, -laughs- I am a terrible terrible influence and should pay some kind of penance.have

It contains

x8 Royal guard intercaptor wings (X-wing)

x2 XG-1 Assault Gunboats (X-wing)

x1 Immobalizer 418 crusier

x1 Vindicator cruiser

x2 Dreadnaughts

x1 ISD Mk1 conversion kit

x1 MC40

x1 Lancer class frigate

total = $303.27 before shipping

And now a station and some Corrillian Gunships might find their way into the basket before I click order around the 30th of this month.

Well I places my order today, slightlisy modified order though. I added 2 RAF MK 1, type 5's, but dropped the vindicator and 1 gunboat. Total w/ shipping $326

You'll have to let us know when you order and get your Type 3's in Vykes.

Soo soooo very true Cheesyman, so very true. And I do love it for that :P

Nice Salty, seriously awesome list. -sighs- I was going to order mine 10 minutes ago but lo' and behold, I got a message from Canada Post saying that my mail is being switched over so there would be some delays and potential issues until the transition is complete. I could order it now but I'd hate for 2 Type III's to be lost in the warp. My mailbox is moving 3 feet, but I get a new postal code and mailing address that I have to wait for. So I'll be picking up those Type III's hopefully on the 17th when things officially change over. This will suck for me as I actually have a replica E-11 that's supposed to be in the mail semi-soon.

That said, 2 RAF's plus the Dreads (new or old?) and the rest look great. Can't wait to see that mod-kit for the ISD! Assuming we get a black friday sale, I might end up with that, some braha'tok, and more Tie avengers as an 'impulse purchase'. I kinda wish we had the Alliance stle Carrack as it didn't have that enormous front RV window. .

Post Scriptum: Well, I checked in on Canada Post's main office here in Stony and they assured me that the mail forwarding should still work though it may take a few days of delays. So, I smiles, pulled out my smartphone, and long story short, I've got a pair of Type III's in the queue.

You could always add a big sign saying "We brake for nobody!!!!!!!!!!! I wanted to do that for my SSD, may still do it. You could always paint a third Dread, in plaid...............Because they actually went faster that ludicrous speed......................... Gotta love Space Balls, my favorite movie :)

I went with the old Legends design. I prefer it, and to match the mk1's.
