Looks more to me like an Immelmann Turn being executed vertically instead of horizontally, but I'm having a hard time distinguishing the ship rolling vs. the camera rotating around it.

I can see why J.J. Adams decided to play tricks with the camera. The sequence is not nearly as "exciting" when viewed from a relatively fixed angle.
