New Careers - Minstrel and Bard

By NezziR, in WFRP House Rules

Being a full time GM, I rarely get to play. When I do, if possible, have a tendency to play entertainers, story tellers, or smooth talking characters. Rogues, gamblers or charlatans are some of my favorites. Since there are no Bards or Entertainers in the initial offering, I present to you the Minstrel and Bard.

Minstrel
Basic Career: Human, Dwarf, High Elf, Wood Elf
Basic, Social, Urban, Entertainer

Primary Characteristics: Agility, Fellowship
Career Skills: Charm, Guile, Skullduggery, Education, Folklore

[C][C]0[R][R]

Advances:
Action: 2
Talent: 2
Skill: 3
Fortune: 2
Conservative: 0
Reckless: 1
Wound: 0

Talent Sockets:
Reputation, Focus

Trappings: Minstrels will have a worn set of clothing (once fine and now much patched from miles of

travel). The will also have a used, but well cared for, musical instrument or other trapping of their

chosen entertainment craft.

Bard
Advanced Career: Human, Dwarf, High Elf, Wood Elf
Intermediate, Social, Urban, Entertainer

Primary Characteristics: Agility, Fellowship
Career Skills: Charm, Guile, Skullduggery, Education, Folklore, Leadership

[C][C]0[R][R]

Advances:
Action: 2
Talent: 3
Skill: 2
Fortune: 2
Conservative: 1
Reckless: 0
Wound: 0

Talent Sockets:
Reputation, Focus

Special: The Bard career may only be entered by those that complete the Minstrel Career.

Trappings: Bards will have a set of well worn traveling clothes and a set of fine clothes. They will

also have a much used, but high quality musical instrument or other trapping of their chosen

entertainment craft.

New careers appear to be very easy to make :)

Update:

Minstrel:

Replace 'Urban' with 'Rogue'. Replace 'Skullduggery' with 'Weapon Skill' (for a more duelist, less thief flavor)

Bard:

Replace 'Urban' with 'Rogue'. Add 'Weapon Skill'.

It's very nice to see that it's possible to make new carreers in wfrp3.

I hope one day somebody will convert the Career Compendium to wfrp3.

I am sure most [if not all] of them will be done in an official capacity.

Neat! I would do things a little different, which is just my own perspective on the idea of Minstrel and Basic Careers.

Entertainer
Basic Career: Human, High Elf, Wood Elf
Basic, Social, Rogue, Specialist

Primary Characteristics: Agility, Fellowship
Career Skills: Charm, Coordination, Folklore, Observation, Trade Craft

Fortune: 2

Trappings: Entertainers have a well-worn set of travel clothes, and a slightly garish outfit consistent with their chosen trade. They will also have a used, but well cared for instrument of their craft (musical instrument, hoops, balance juggling items).

Alternately I'd replace Specialist with Menial (looking at the official careers I could go either way). Went with Coordination over Athletics since Coordination goes with Primary Characteristic, and some of the specialization options are Acrobatics, Juggling, and Dance. Went with Trade Craft based on listed specialization of Performance.

Definately a lot of potential here to expand on the Careers included.

OOPS - also need to add quarterstaff, deep clay bowl, and pewter tankard to Trappings.

I agree with Boris in that I'd recommend using Coordination rather than Weapon Skill/Skulduggery. Coordination well represents hand-eye coordination and skills such as juggling and dancing. It fits better as a career skill than weapon skill. After all, not all minstrels/bards are duellists, but most if not all need good physical dexterity.
