Tie Bomber or Punisher

By Boba Rick, in X-Wing

I know I'm not the first to raise the question, forgive me.

If I had to buy one or the other, which one do you recommend?

If you want to use ordnance, punisher is probably the way forwards. I hate the model, though!

If you mean purchasing the expansion, TIE punisher all the way. More and better upgrade cards, contains Extra Munitions (a necessity for bombers) and the named pilots are much more capable as individuals. Then grab the TIE bomber in Imperial Veterans if you want it.

If you mean which to deploy, harder question. The TIE punisher essentially occupies the space of an elite TIE bomber. If you're after the ordnance rather than the ship, the Scimitar (TIE bomber) is usually a better choice than the Cutlass (TIE punisher), giving similar performance for a much better price.

With named pilots, Redline and Deathrain are far more dangerous than Jonus and Rhymer. Rhymer's still a bit of a deadweight and Jonus is far more suited to a TIE shuttle support role. Redline gets incredible dice modification with a Fire Control System (his Cluster Missiles are lethal) and Deathrain is one of the best minelayers/bomb droppers in the game.

The TIE punisher lends itself to maximisation and the TIE bomber to much tigher customisation. It's a spectrum with a just over 20pt Scimitar at the bottom all the way up to a fully loaded Redline at the top. Until ImpVets comes out I'd say TIE bomber generics and TIE punisher aces.

one singular? Punisher has the more useful upgrades and pilots (named) whereas the bomber is where you'll want to go if you're grabbing imperial veterans

punishers can use LRS, but you probably never will given how crazy Redline is with cluster missiles and FCS

Redline is a pretty good pilot out of the box, I'd say Punisher. I prefer Bombers in packs of 4.

Kudos, great advice

Redline single, bombers in a flight group.

Also, buying the Punisher gives you two Twin Ion Engine Mk. II cards. They are awesome.

Thanks everyone!

Blue five gave great advice.

My advice? Do you like Tie Bombers? Get a Punisher, it's a Tie bomber with another bomber graphed onto it, it's 2x bomber.

Do you want a cheap Punisher? Get a Tie Bomber.

Haha. You mean.

"I heard you like bombers with your bombers? So I grafted a bomber to your bomber and called it a Punisher! "

Imperial Veterans.

Basically, the (oo) has superior generics, and the (8o8) has individually better named pilots.

Also different roles - Punisher likes to specialize, Bombers like to combine Missiles and Seismic Charges.

Buy two of each, it's what any loyal son of the Empire would do.

I ordered a Tie Punisher last night, can't wait for the beast to arrive!

Once Tomax is with us I will seriously question whether any list that has a named Punisher in it wouldn't be better with Evercrack Tomax.

Deathrain has similarly deathly shenanigans

I'm assuming the as-yet-unspoiled Bomber unique from Vets will mess with bombs in a deathrainy sort of manner atm.

His bit about Rmymer being a dead weight had me flummoxed till I remembered this is X-Wing, not Armada!

I like using these designations!

At the moment, it's a matter of preferences. Use the named Punishers if you want elites. Use the generics Tie Bombers if you want cheap ordnance holder. Don't use generic Punishers or Named Tie Bombers at the moment. Yes, things change with Imperial Vets.

I can't figure out Phantom or Defender, or a differentiator between TIE/LN and TIE/fo though.

For versions that don't use multiple lines, isn't there a diacritic that puts a little V over the o?

And then the Phantom could be /ò\
