Luke Skywalker crew needs new life

By Crabbok, in X-Wing

When was the last time you actually saw Luke Skywalker crew get used. Honestly. for a guy who is 1 point less than the emperor, he feels just awful.

How could he get made awesome again? (What if huge ships were allowed to use him since they can't use Gunner?)

Gunner is allowed on huge ships now, i imagine he'd be great on huge ships.

WHAT?!

I don't believe you.

Don't get cocky, kid. We aren't out of this thing yet.

Dear goodness please tell don't me that people are beginning to ask for fixes to individual upgrade/crew cards.

We have 1/2 the ships already out that could still be fixed one way or another.

Let's wait until at least wave 15 to start coming out with upgrades for upgrades.

Luke is a okay card. Gunner is usually better, but if you're buying a Gunner and have points to spare, Luke's focus-to-hit shenanigans are useful. I've used him with Chewbacca pilot when I had no other useful way to spend 2 points.

I honestly don't know why Luke doesn't pop up more in Han builds. He may prove useful on the Ghost with FCS.

He goes on Han a lot recently, as Talas have been replaced with an ace like Jake or Poe, there's often the 2 points spare.

One of the best players in my local league run Chewie with Luke crew and Predator and it's a very nasty build aimed at taking out aces like Soontir. First round of firing, he uses Predator+Focus to strip your tokens, then he activates Luke and gets the same benefit as a Focus action + Predator to do big damage.

I don't want them to change the card at all. I'm more interested if people actually have a good use for it, because for one of the most expensive upgrades in the game, it's also one of the least used.

Like suppose there was a Rebel ship that had Kir Kanos's ability and also a crew. So maybe you play defensively and take the evade. Miss your attack, then trigger Luke, who is now better since you didn't focus... and you spend your evade for an extra damage on top of that.

I dunno I'm just brainstorming here, but I'd love to find a rewarding use for a 7 point crew....

The current Scandinavian national champion unfortunately uses it to great effect.

Epic Play Card Restrictions

This section describes official restrictions and changes to card text in Epic X-Wing tournaments:

• Biggs Darklighter’s card text should read “Other friendly small and large ships at Range 1 cannot be targeted by attacks if the attacker could target you instead.”

• Navigator cannot be equipped to huge ships.

They changed it fairly recently.

The 2 points were an easy grab for my store champ build to get pred/title.

It's a 2pt minifocus upgrade to Gunner. Same niche as Gunner, costs more but is more effective. Pretty clear cut to me.

I flew Chewie w/Luke crew and 3 Talas at GenCon 2015. I went 5-2 with it. Luke's ability triggered nearly every match, sometime multiple times. There were several times where I Pred a single hit from a Hit/Blank/Blank roll to trigger Luke intentionally, and then rolled hit/blank/eye, and pred a hit from the blank to get 3 hits. Luke is a great way to increase your chances of hitting, and now I find it hard to not go for Luke when I want a Gunner effect on Rebel ships.

I use Luke with my Han builds often. I think he is a pretty good upgrade for the build.

The store championship I was at had a Han with Luke. The guy had the points to spare and I can see the appeal if you have them going.

Gunner and Luke are only useful on the last attack of the round that a huge ship makes, which makes them kind of lackluster for their cost.

I just mean his ability to convert a focus, maybe not the best utility but if you've been getting bum dice then it could be worth it.

Fat YT-1300 w/ Predator and Luke work very, very well.

A vassal tournament was won by a Han and Jake with Han running the Pred+Luke combo, and the final, against Palp aces, was never in doubt.

A guy at my local has recently started running Han + Luke after seeing do well in a recent Vassal tournament. Luke can actually be pretty helpful for a stress-stacked or bumped falcon which coupled with Predator/Han makes it almost completely action independent on offense.

I'm not sure its worth the points, but with the amount of HP I'm usually flying I'm a little intimated to face it.

I just saw Luke at a Store Championship last week.

I wouldn't be opposed to a Luke Skywalker crew from his Jedi years, but I'm hoping we see a new Leia Organa crew card before that point. Her ability might have been useful if it came in at 1 or 2 points, but 4 points is ridiculous for a single-use discard upgrade that only comes into play if you're doing massive amounts of red maneuvers.

I think 4 points and a crew slot is only ridiculous for what she does in a standard match. In an epic match she could very easily be worth her cost.

Allowing an entire squad to pull a K-Turn and then take an action or to pull back to back K-Turns isn't too shabby.

Luke's problem is that he's Gunner, but costing 2 more points for a just ok bonus. Most of the time there are probably other things you could fit in a list with those two points that'll do more work for you than Luke's bonus on the second attack(that may not even happen). But if you were using Gunner anyway and really had nothing else to use 2 points on, there's no reason to not take him.
