Ironman's Bay Area - NorCal Meta

By cha0s2, in 7. AGoT Metagame Discussions

Hey metamates and (formerly) Calicon enthusiasts-

Cha0s and I have been trying to figure out the dates for this years big California Tournament. We threw around the second weekend of september, but that doesn't work for everyone (including myself). The third week is just too busy. BUT, how are peoples schedules the last weekend in September? That would be the 25th and 26th respectively. That still puts the tournament less than two months away.

So, are people available on those dates?

We are still thinking Melee on Saturday, Joust on Sunday early so people can get on the road if need be.

Syd

25th - 26th works for me!

Works for us!

Okay who is playing tomorrow night at BDG? I may be able to swing by to get some games in.

Syd, as to your question about my involvement in the game these days... ask Cha0s. I'm putting some time in AGoT wise, though admittedly I haven't been playing standard LCG in awhile, so I'm going to be rusty.

Well I will be out of town (at GenCon) but I will do my best to make sure some Throners are there at the store for your enjoyment. We have a newer player named Eric (not on the boards yet) who will most likely be there and I got a text from Jen and Jeff saying that they will try to make it up to see you Damon. Also I believe Luke will be around and maybe his brother-in-law, Dave. Also if Mike is there, I'm sure he'd be down for a few games. Sorry that I am going to miss you. Oh, I did fill everybody in on your new position at FFG. We are all very excited for you!!!!

Jen and I will be up there. In fact we'll probably leave work early and drive up early to beat the traffic.

The kid is away at camp this week so the adults can get away and play gui%C3%B1o.gif

Now, have to try to build a deck or two tonight.

I'm out of the loop on this one. What's Damon doing now?

Don't worry about deck building. I don't have any decks that have been updated in months. I'll be practicing my ability to lose gracefully.

Hey everyone, Deathjester and I have returned home from GenCon very pleased with our performance representing CA in the AGoT World Championships. If you have not heard yet, I got 2nd place in the Melee Championship and 10th in the Joust. Deathjester did very well in the Joust and ended up in 2nd place! After the overall points were tallied I missed the Overall Championship by 3 points. So to summarize, CA swept the 2nd place finishes in all major events!!! Not bad. gran_risa.gif

Now that GenCon is over we will be narrowing our focus on The Battle of the Westerlands Tourney and finalizing plans for dates and times etc. As soon as we know the details, you will too. Hope to see you there!

I'm looking forward to it! Well done representing California guys!

Congratulations guys on those Gencon placings.

We need to get something official down on this thread for CaliCon 2010 (which may end up keeping it's name because it's easier to say/write then Battle for the Westerlands!) We will have a $10-15 entry fee which will cover prizes and food.

Here is the schedule: (mostly finalized but still subject to change)

Melee on Sat. (9/25) at Cha0s' House in Brentwood (Food provided)

Joust on Sun. (9/26) at Black Diamond Games in Concord (On your own for Food)

Both events will start at 11am sharp. So don't be late. Also throughout the weekend Deathjester will be hosting the Maester's Chain Challenge. Prizes this year will include Playmats, Art Prints, Custom Poker Chip Power counters, Trophies for the winners and as usual a special Sansa Prize is up for grabs. Come out and have a blast with us eating, drinking and Throning!

Let me know if you have any questions or if I missed some important piece of info.

Sounds great! Can't wait to play this year after missing last year! Let me know what I can do Cha0s. I would love to help run either event as TO.

Syd

Sounds good to me!!! Let's make this thing officially official!

Hello all,

I am an officer stationed in Monterey at Naval Postgraduate School and have just started play AGoT. I would like to play in the Sep 12th tournament but there are concerns.

1. I need to learn how to play the game properly (I believe I have a good basic grasp) as I am self-taught and do not wish to slow down play.

2. I have played quite a bit with my wife and daughter and continuely lose to my 11 year old daughter's Stark deck.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Timmy

Welcome USAF214!!!

I believe the event you are talking about is Calicon. It was originally scheduled for the 11th and 12th, but has now been moved to the 25th and 26th. The guys may still be planning a smaller tourney on the 12th however, so I'd check with cha0s or Syd on that.

Calicon is lots of fun and you should definitely try to make it out.

As for your concerns:

1) Come out early and we'll help you with any errors you might be making. Or, you can get OCTGN (See General Discussion Forum thread) and play online. If those don't work for you, don't sweat it. We'll help you out on the fly during the tourney.

2) As long as you have fun playing the game (win or lose), you are most definitely more than welcome to come out to the event!

I unfortunately will not be in the GREAT state of Minnesota that weekend and thus be able attend. I will look for other weekend games to attend.

I would also be interested in any games in San jose as that is half the driving time for me from Monterey.

timmy

I meant to say I won't be in CA and cannot make it, as I WILL be in MN.

sorry

Timmy

Sorry to hear you won't be around Tim, it's always nice to meet new players.

However, I can probably help you out with getting some more game experience. My fiancee and I have been playing for years and live in the Santa Cruz area. We can't get up to Concord regularly as it's just a bit too far for us to make it for their regular play days, but we would happily drive down to Monterey or meet you somewhere in the Santa Cruz area, assuming we can find the free time to do so. Frankly I'd love to have someone to play with close by, and we're kid friendly. Our 12 year old daughter has been known to play with us on occasion (when she's not too busy doing whatever else all she's up to).

Hey everyone (especially those of you who missed KublaCon, or even those of you who made Kubla but want a Kubla-redemption)

CaliCon Maester's Challenge

To be announced by Deathjester26...

Ok people...sorry to do this to you but we have changed the date of CaliCon, we are now having it on Oct. 9th and 10th at the same places. Please post here or contact me by email if you have any questions. Thanks gran_risa.gif

Oh yeah and please note that the Bara Box will be legal if it is out in time.

So CaliCon has come and gone but not without some great memories and new friendships beginning. Our numbers were down this year (most likely due to our own scheduling issues and a little tourney in Europe called the Tourney of Stahleck being on the same weekend bostezo.gif ) but as it happened we had 13 players each day. Here is a short breakdown of the results:

Melee - Top Table of 4

Johnny playing Greyjoy won 1st place

Luke playing Bara (Knights) tied for second

Joey playing Bara tired for second

Ryan playing Bara ended in 4th

Joust - Top 4

Cisco playing Stark (all 6 DotN agendas)

Jim playing Lannister (3 of the DotN agendas)

Luke playing Lannister

Johnny playing Targaryen

Semi-finals

Cisco (4-0 in regulation) beat Johnny (3-1 in regulation)

Jim (3-1 in regulation) beat Luke (3-1 in regulation)

Finals

Jim beat Cisco

Johnny beat Luke

Jim (Laughing Tree) won 1st place in the CaliCon 2010 Joust Championship

Cisco (Letum) after going undefeated in regulation ended with 2nd place.

Johnny (Deathjester) got 3rd in joust which was good enough to secure CaliCon 2010 Overall Champion

Luke (Syd) ended with a 4th place finish.

Great job to all our participants and tourney organizers. I will be posting pictures and a more detailed report soon.

hey johnny... i figured it out man :) sorry if i pissed anybody off! GREAT JOB Jimbo!!! and to you as well Francisco... Johnny your a STUD and i'll leave it at that! thanks for making it a tourney sers from SD and mr. santa cruz! until '11!
