Lando

Wow, good job on Lando's cloak!
Today I finished my trandoshan hunters. I chose to have them different colors. Really happy with the result.

Bossk!
What colors did you use for Bossk's skin tone?
Thanks,
~D

Great question. Looks movie accurate! I need to know too. lol
As a first time painter I struggled to paint the stripes of the nexu. In the end they are much darker than in Sorastro's video. But I like them. Without those tutorials I would never started to paint those imperial assault figures. Now I am nearly done with the core set. One nexu is left. Luckily there are many expansions.
Thank you Sorastro for introducing me in such a great hobby!

Fabulous work soontir! I quite like those super-dark stripes actually - looks like a really bad kitty!
I've been having a blast painting Lando and it looks like he's going to be the longest episode yet. Now if I can just get a hang of this focusing thing... ![]()

Question for Sorastro:
I've purchased 2x Obi-wan packs.
I've painted one for Skirmish in good quality colors.
I'm hoping to paint the other like a Ghost/Spirit Obi-wan. Then in campaigns I can play his mission with Ghost Obi-wan.
Do you recommend starting a new color palette from scratch using whites and greys then shading blue, or would it look good to paint Obi in traditional colors and shade blue and drybrush a light coat of grey over it?
Just spit balling ideas.
Thanks!

Oo nice idea! I'd have to run some tests to find the best approach to paint a ghostly Obi-Wan but I think a completely new palette using paler and more blue-ish versions of the original colors would be the way to go ![]()

Thanks I plan to work on it tonight and this weekend I'll post some pictures ![]()
With my number one passion being camping/fishing and living in a province where it snows for 6 months of the year, summer is a busy time for me.. my IA hasn't hit the table since May 7th, but it will finally tonight! I started out having a blast painting Storm Troopers and then by round 3 the fatigue was real, I had been putting it off and just doing the smallest of steps on each figure for the past month or so, I even took a break to do the Probe Droids (they were a lot of fun). But given that my team wants to play tonight I decided to push through and finally get the last batch of Stormies done all in one night!
I would say that they turned out good, not as good or detailed as the 2nd batch but about 80% as good. I tried putting blast marks on this time but then realized I didn't have the Rhinox Hide, so I tried cutting it with some Nuln Oil.. it still turned out very dark but overall I like about 2/3 of them. I don't think I had the right brush for it so they turned out really big... but I got a really nice one on the top of the helmet like Sorastro has in the video. I will post some pics later when I am home.
When I do the heavies I will make sure to have the Rhinox Hide and a proper sized brush, something smaller that I don't mind being rough with. I am just glad the Storm Trooper push is over and now I can move on to more varied projects... like the E-Web's!! Ugh!!! But at least there you get to combine the Storm Trooper with the Probe Droid (I really liked the dry brushing, but think I might have went a little over board) and there are only two!
One thing I did struggle a bit with this time was paint control. I find that I am watering my paint down either to much or not enough. Not enough and I have great control but it is to thick or strong, to much and it layers nice but I lose control. What methods do people use for watering down? I am thinking that maybe I need one of those drippers so I can control just how much water actually gets in there. Do you use an old crappy brush to transfer the paint? Do you smear it around or just dab it in?

Well I tried both.
It turns out mixing blues and Browns gets pretty ugly so I cleaned humans started over
Here was my process for their final result in pretty happy with.
Prime in black
Dry
Base colors
Dry
Shade in Agrax brown for cloak and Nuln oil face and hair
Dry
Shade again is drakenhoff blue
Dry
Details and highlights as you see fit
Dry
Here's the key dry brush with Chronus Blue dry pain by citadel
Drying now then I'll do final touches and basing
I tried some blue glaze but decided against it.
I went a bit overboard with the dry brushing so it's now hard to see the brown in Obi's cloak I may fix that with finishing touches, but he stands out alot from the baseline obi I have.
My camera phone really doesn't do him justice. Now I'm itching to play some IA ![]()
Thanks for all the help as always
Edited by KennedyHawkThat actually does look pretty darn good! Well done ![]()

Trying to remember what I did. I'm pretty sure I mixed some GW Averland Sunset into Zandri Dust, to get a yellowish khaki/light brown tone. Then I think I did brown wash, followed by a highlight of the Zandri Dust/Averland Sunset mix, but with slightly more yellow to brighten it.

Hi folks!
I thought you might like to know that Ep.22 is now live; hope you like it!

Huzzah! I've been looking forward to this. I love Lando. My wife... not so much (because of that little thing about handing the heroes over to the Empire). Someone has trust issues ![]()
really looking forward to painting Lando. He's a masterpiece. Not only have you influenced many to become solid painters in their own right, you're own skills have been taken to the next level. Up until this point, I had the most appreciation for Gideon Argus and C3PO but you've set a new standard with Lando Calrissian.

Dude, he didn't have a choice. Doesn't your wife understand? He didn't have a choice! He was just trying to help. Your wife probably thinks they didn't need his help. But even after he betrayed them, there was still a chance to save Han... at the east platform. Your wife needs to lighten up ![]()

Thanks a lot HK 47!
I'm learning all the time like everyone else and have been trying to improve my blending skills lately so I'm pleased you like the work I did on Lando. I feel most proud however when I'm reminded that I've managed to influence "many to become solid painters in their own right" as that of course has always been the ultimate goal of the videos. Thanks again!

Sorastro,
I feel a sense of wonder every time I watch one of your videos. I know that you have helped me in becoming a better hobbyist and this in turn has made me feel better in that I have improved at something I have always felt was beyond my scope.
Thank you.
If FFG are listening to this discussion piece, I would throw it out to them to create a book of your work and also the techniques you used. Sort of like 'Visions of IA'.
I appreciate all the work you have done, and I wish that I was in a position to do more.
Thank you again for this latest piece of work.
