Sorastro's Painting

By Sorastro, in Imperial Assault Painting and Modification

I spent a few hours on Han and Fenn today, following Sorastro's videos. I don't have every colour used in the video, but I tried to pick something similar or mix something up and I think they came out ok.

And I did Jyn on Thursday. I found her to be quite difficult. She's very small.

I've noticed that mixing paints means I use paint up at a greatly accelerated rate :P

Love that Fenn!

Very nice work indeed Rythbryt!

Well Episode 20 (20!) is now complete, and I couldn't resist releasing it in time for May 4th. Hope you like it :)

Sorastro. Beautiful. Just beautiful. It is a perfect pic for the 4th. I love the blocking terrain red dash lines that invoke a certain Corellian's signature pant stripe.

Jeez, man. Threepio is bonkers. Nice work indeed.

Wow... that's just... there are no words...

(Really, no words)

That looks amazing!

Threepio looks awesome!

And as usual, I've updated the cheat sheet in my sig with the latest entry.

I love that C-3PO. I now wish I'd waited for that video before painting mine! It never occurred to me to paint him silver and wash him in yellow, but the results are spectacular.

I'm working on Boba Fett at the moment and it's taking a long time. He has a lot of features that are all different colours on him, complicated by the fact that they are all custom shades that need mixing (not to mention that I don't have half the shades Sorastro used!). I want to get him finished before we next play though, as he features in the mission! Last time we played all the figures we used were painted and it was great to see them all on the table :D

I don't know if I am just slow, but when I mix a custom base colour for something, by the time I reach the highlight stage it has usually dried out, so I have to try to mix more that matches.

Here's Biv. I've just noticed I photographed him before painting the base :P

That Biv is fantastic!

Regarding dried paints, a dip of the mixing brush into water should liven the paints to the desired consistency.

I decided to faff around a bit with my camera and my painted figures. I've uploaded some new pics to my album: https://flic.kr/s/aHskyzArN7

Taking a decent photograph of these little buggers is almost as hard as painting them. I need a macro lens!

I quite like this hero shot

And I can just hear C3PO going "oh my!" at this lot charging towards him... :)

@udat, which color did you use for the Tusken Bases?

@udat, which color did you use for the Tusken Bases?

I am pretty sure it was just Averland Sunset, the Citadel base colour

sounds right - thanks!

Thanks very much for your tutorials - as for many others, your extremely well-done work has been a wonderful support and invitation back into miniature painting after decades. It's given a great deal of joy to myself and my five-year old! As far as future-projects, I would love to see a series on painting 3d terrain - such as the combat zone scenery which I soon hope to pick up. Thanks again!

Thank you khenusingh! I will certainly be broadening my content out a bit in the future - especially when this becomes my primary occupation from September - and I'd be happy to take suggestions like 3D terrain from viewers :)

Thank you for the tutorials. I have learned a lot of detail and look forward to your current and future work.

Yes HoodieDM!

Mostly due to the strength of support I've been lucky enough to receive via Patreon I will soon be able to earn as much producing a video per week as I do in my current day job, so I have handed in my notice and will soon be producing tutorials (and the occasional album of music) full time :)

You deserve it Sorastro you pieces are works of art !

Finally finished Boba Fett. At least mostly finished. Any advice on final touches? There are several little weathering touches and I didn't want to overdo it, but maybe he needs more?

Very nice Boba Fett there Udat. I like it.

Nice work, Udat. I like the grimy jetpack and the Scum logo. Very neatly painted logo and the jetpack really gives Boba character. That he's there to do a job and not show off. :)

Loved the new Droids Video Sorastro. There just so wonderful to watch, even though I'm getting steadily further behind as I find so little time to paint with work right now.

I know you've got a Zombiecide or Decent video next, but any ideas on what you'do like to try next for Star Wars?

This video series was the motivation to get me to start painting my Imperial Assault collection, which is my first foray into this hobby. My hand didn't seem steady enough for the finer details at first, but the more I attempt, the better the results!

I'm using Army Painter Mega Set II with a few additional piecemeal paints by Citadel and Model Master, and mostly Atlus brushes.

Those look great. I'm jealous of anyone who can get the eyes to look good on these figures.
