Real trailer at last...

By Eggs, in X-Wing

I...didn't love it.

The stuff with the x-wings and the Falcon and the TIEs having the same sound effects and look. All bloody brilliant.

I even don't mind the lightsaber cross-guard. What I hated was that it has a different look to the blades and a different sound effect. Didn't sound like a lightsaber to me.

Plus, everything pre-Falcon looked SO JJ Abrams it hurts. So much of it just reminded me of the Trek reboot. Which I hated.

They were more akin to Space Samurai.

Yeah, but then there were the prequels which added a bo staff and a fencing blade. So yeah, all bets are off at this point

I "squee'd" myself...

It looks SO JJ Abrams because JJ Abrams directed it... Of course it'll be shot similar to his previous movies and there's nothing particularly wrong with that. He is a fine director (his writing is another story).

It's the camera I hate. That shot with the Falcon doing a loop is so cliched.

Well all 3 originals were directed by different people, yet they all have the same feel and look. This...doesn't. For me at least. Just didn't scream Star Wars at me (until the end).

I just thought with him doing both big Star franchises now he'd make them look a bit different to each other...alas...

Those X-wings by the water...

Now, that's truly a wet dream...

Ugh, another stupid and impractical lightsaber design. There is a reason historical broadswords don't have daggers for crossguards.

As tingly as my junk gets watching this trailer, does anyone else get a little bittersweet feeling watching the Falcon knowing its going to be all CGI instead of the "old school" effects from the original trilogy?

Ignoring the huge model falcon they made? I don't see how you can complain. They are using a ton of practical effects on the ground, and using CGI for the space battles, which makes the most sense.

Im sorry, I thought we were talking about the trailer? And I invite you to go back and watch the asteroid chase scene in ESB and imagine the new CGI Falcon in its place and see if you get what im talking about. I didn't say i hate it mind you, i think the falcon with the new dish looks BA as !#%^, but i still like the old style.

yay on falcon, yay on stormtroopers, yay on x-wing over water, yay on overall look, nay on light sword, nay on lack of space scenes, nay on possibly no r2d2 in the back of x-wing. Also not sure about the size of the (x) wings, which indeed split. Makes them very small.

You know, thinking about the Cross guard...

There were rumours that the event of Luke losing his hand at cloud city may have some significance on this plot. Sure would have been useful if Lukes lightsaber had something on it to stop that kinda thing happening at the time.

Except Vader sturck from below, crossguard wouldn't have helped there. It would have helped when Luke cut off Vader's hand in ROTJ, but then Vader wouldn't be handless and incapacitated.

So disappointed. How do I put this? It looks great visually, no complaints there. Great production values.

However any film maker could have put this out - it's like it's a generic trailer for somebody's Star Wars fan film. Pretty much every familiar Star Wars element has it's own spin in this trailer. Tons of fan films do that - Falcon that isn't quite the Falcon that we know, lightsaber that isn't quite a lightsaber we know, droid that isn't quite a droid we know, etc. I'm not knocking the fact that elements have their own JJ spin. But the one thing that JJ can do that no other Star Wars film maker could do right now is show Mark's Luke looking like old Obi-Wan. Harrison and Peter looking like Han and Chewie sitting in their infamous cockpit. Carrie's Leia wearing the hair buns and activating a lightsaber. I wanted to see something that only JJ could show us and I don't feel like I got it.

Loving it.

Number of lightsabers: 1

Number of star fighters: 6 (including falcon)

I know Han doesn't like it, but I like those odds for what the movie will focus on.

That looks like Oscar Isaac's character. Definitely not Wedge although I love the idea of him being in the movie. Unfortunately actor Denis Lawson has no interest in reprising that role:(

BECAUSE HE'S A BIG DUMB IDIOT > : (

"Oh a new Star Wars film- only the most legendary science fiction/fantasy franchise in the world? nah. I'm good."

He wants a starring role, not cameos. Just wait until Disney breaks down and adapts the X-wing books for TV.

Episode 1 teaser looked cool too.

It's gonna suck.

Yes, we understand you think it's going to suck. Now would you stop flogging the expired equine in every thread about the new film?

Already looks better than the entire prequel trilogy imho. Save us JJ, you're our only hope.

Yeah it does... and he will!

:D

OMG no! At .41, by the moisture vaporator, is that Jar Jar?!?!

While I still remain skeptical until I actually see the flick I'm liking the trailer.

OMG I almost cried when Falcon hit the sky accompanied by SW theme... and I am 33. I have good feelings about future.

Just remember, we have a good year of post production to go. Those CG shots are going to get much, much better as they are finished. The X-wing stuff is already amazing. It is a complaint I find annoying. This is modern film making. You could never achieve the shots they did in the trailer with models, looking anywhere near as good as it does. And it is still unfinished. It reminds me of Godzilla fans who are hardcore about going back to the suits.

It wasn't so much a complaint as nostalgia kicking in. Nowhere did i say i hated it or even disliked it.

Nuh uh. Not gonna click it. NOT GOING TO CLICK IT.

I can do this, I can do this...

There is no escape. It is your destinty. with every passing moment you make yourself more excited. Yesss, the urge is swelling within you. Take your mouse, click on the link with all of your passion and you journey to fanboy will be complete!

Do love the nostalgia, and the bare nature of the trailer is probably because we have more than a **** year to go before it hits theaters.

I'm sure we'll have more detail and some cooler scenes to gawk at in the near future

Also, Stormtrooper without helmet (hopefully not a rebel in disguise) is a huge plus :D

The droid looked real stupid, though

Episode 1 teaser looked cool too.

It's gonna suck.

I would like to remind everyone that the whole point of the trailer is too look cool regardless of the actual quality of the movie

Having a good/cool trailer no more indicates a good movie than it does a bad one.

Having an uninteresting trailer generally indicates that either a.) whoever made it is incompetent b.) the movie has so little of interest that it can't even fill out a minute+ of run time.
