Yeah, they don't use fiscal years for their release dates, as they will usually update the product if it moves to a new quarter.

In theory Wave 6 could've been out this year. It all depended on how far they were with the production of it when they announced it at GenCon. If they were just about ready to start printing it, or already had started. It could've happened, not likely but was possible.
But yeah there's zero chance of it happening this year now. It's a minimum of 2 months from the point it goes on the boat to stores.
As long as it is a bit quicker than Imperial Aces...
They should understand their own supply and transport chain enough to know that S&V won't be hitting the streets until Q2. Last year I was under the impression that Imperial Aces was coming out between Halloween and Thanksgiving and we didn't get them until around St. Patrick's Day. I don't recall the exact projected release and actual release but they were several months apart. They should not be missing their deadlines so often and by such wide margins.
I would love to see them switch production to Mexico or even (gasp!) domestically. I know a lot of companies have moved to Mexico to avoid these huge transport delays. That would make a huge difference to their schedules. Not to mention getting old waves back into production. The amount of money they could be making on Falcons alone right now would be something.
They're pretty committed to keeping the ships priced as they are, so I doubt they could produce them in the US.

Due to being genre savvy I thought it would turn out to be about this slow. I'm assuming it'll be around Feb-Mar or so. Middle of February would be nice... I'd love to have my StarVipers for my birthday.
Don't get your hopes up. Wave 5 still hasn't been released, they haven't spoiled everything yet, and they're releasing a whole faction at once. You'll be lucky to get them Q1 2015.
If you're still waiting for wave 5, you should order from miniaturemarket.com. I got my Decimator from them yesterday.

Best case for VI, mid Q2 for SC season, worst case in time to impact the Regional META.
If we go off Tax year, then Q1 2015 will be April 2015. So "Q4 2014" could be Early 2015 and I have always thought of FFG releases that way and haven't been wrong yet. Q4 2014 will be Jan/Feb/March and we do often see an X-wing release around that time.

Looks like FFG updated the expected arrival dates for wave 6. No surprise to anyone watching things; Q1 2015. I guess the band-aid is off!
