Keep your friends close and your enemies even closer, but most importantly; keep Kirk away from your women!

This Uhura is a proper linguist and understands the Klingon Language.
Which makes *total* sense. If i had a multi billion pound/credit/dollar/spacewonga starship i'd want my signals and intel officers to understand the language of the most hostile and prolific alien race i was likely to come up against.
you'd think they'd have a translation program in their ship's computer for that...
You would but if its down or jammed you'd want the core skills of your into officer to work.
When i was a soldier i used to have a 4x optical sight on my rifle and i carried a night vision scope i could mount on it if needed.
I was still expected to be able to hit someone at 500 metres in daylight without the former should it be smashed or i had a rifle with iron sights and i was still expected to be able to patrol and engage the enemy at night without NVG and just the 'mk1 eyeball'
Technology should *enhance* ability, not replace it.
Pretty much.
All you naysayers will be wide eyed and trembling with anticipation this time next year.
No it won't live up to your extreme and absurd expectations, but I bet it will be pretty good.
Oh and, the Thrawn trilogy wasn't all that good. The plot was whacky and it ended more abruptly than a high speed car crash.
If it's anything like the new STs, it will be horrible.
I don't have extreme and absurd expectations, but I haven't liked a single JJ work I've seen. Also that's just your opinion. I like NJO. I get a lot of hate for that, but that's my opinion, and the rest of the world's opinions can't change the fact that I like NJO.
Why? The new Star Trek movies were great si-fi action/adventure movies. If the new Star Wars movies are anything like them, then they should be great. But why the new Star Trek movies aren't good is because they are not good Star Trek movies. JJ made action movies in the universe of Star Trek. That's about it. Besides the characters and the **** Enterprise, they do not resemble anything else about ST.
and just to clarify:
This entire post is all opinion
Exactly what is needed (in my opinion) is an action movie set in the Star Wars universe with the characters and the **** Millenium Falcon.
Throw politics out the window and taxes.
Simple story with characters we love (not hate like jar jar.)
And one last thing. Don't kill off the bad guy and replace him every movie. ie should of let Darth Maul be in all three and then killed. Not have EPIC bad guy replaced by old man then by coughing robot dude.
That was all off topic
This is not.
I love X-wing miniatures. Easily the best board game ever and the miniatures are fantastic. Keep it up.
I have so many miniatures above and beyond what I would need. :-)
Kirk (on ship's intercom): "Okay, the computer is down and the Klingons keep hailing us! Does anybody speak klingon? Anybody? Please report to the bridge!"
Spock: "I tought you knew klingon, captain?"
Kirk: "Al i know how to say in Klingon is: "hey baby, wanna have a good time?" and "I'll call you for sure!" I don't think that's gonna help us here."
Spock (raises eyebrow): "facinating."
Edited by Robin Gravesthe sky will fall, of course.
I want to remind everyone that JJ is only directing the first movie in the trilogy.
1. Hype will build.
2. Expectations will rise.
3. Movie will open.
4. Movie will not meet all expectations.
5. People will cry "Foul!", "Ruined my childhood!", etc.
6. Time will pass.
7. Movie will be seen as "Not too bad. Better than Ep. I."
7a. Movie may actually be pretty good.
8. Episode VIII will be announced.
9. Hype will build.
etc.
etc.
I would prefer they do not rewrite stories, however most times I tend to judge the films independent of the originals. Especially where there has been such a long time span between installments. Case in point, I did enjoy the new Trek movies. I also thought the new BSG was far better than the original. Hollywood will screw stuff up, there is no way around that, so don't get upset just expect it.
A whole lot of excitement mixed with a good dose of disappointment but one thing's for sure.....the Force will awaken.
This entire quote would be a hilariously honest trailer voiceover.
I highly doubt they'll ret-con the original triology
ST I understand was a bit of a *********** of continuity because there were simply too many episodes, and the really popular material aka. garanteed sales figures was sheletered back in the original series and the Next Generation (which kind of shat itself out of the movie market with its...I hesistate to call them films)
We're going to see tons of EU stuff get ret-conned most likely, but the OT should be trucking on without changes since it was only 3 movies with very basic plot (which are still enjoyable in adulthood thanks to fantastic world-building and characters) rather than season-spanning t.v shows.
I just hope that J.J has been watching the OT religiously, and that Ford was able to bring the same kind of actor-think that spawned the "I love you --> I know" line
Edited by ficklegreendiceOf course JJ has been watching them religiously. He's a Star Wars fan.
I'd hate to interpret a hailing message of 'hey there, how you doing, want to come over for a cup of tea and look at each others spaceship' as 'puny human you're about to die, arm weapons!'.
Mind you the former is unlikely to have been sent from a klingon warship whereas the latter....
Maybe that's WHY the Klingons are so angry and have so many warships.
All their Tea and Pastry ships kept getting blown up by the Federation. ![]()
Dude if my armada kept losing their snack ships you bet your ass i'd wage war. That's the worst thing.
