If its anything like 'phantom menace' it will be one year of winding up super hype, almost wetting yourself with excitemnt when the 'crawl' comes on screen and then crushing dissapointment an hour later... ![]()
I'm disappointed they are making an episode 7 to begin with! Double disappointed 'cause Abrams is the director. I'll still watch it though, but Heir to the Empire is the REAL Episode 7......
Pretty much.
All you naysayers will be wide eyed and trembling with anticipation this time next year.
No it won't live up to your extreme and absurd expectations, but I bet it will be pretty good.
Oh and, the Thrawn trilogy wasn't all that good. The plot was whacky and it ended more abruptly than a high speed car crash.
I couldnt get into the thrawn stuff, i thought it was a bit naff tbh
double post....

If it's anything like the new STs, it will be horrible.
I don't have extreme and absurd expectations, but I haven't liked a single JJ work I've seen. Also that's just your opinion. I like NJO. I get a lot of hate for that, but that's my opinion, and the rest of the world's opinions can't change the fact that I like NJO.

An HOUR later???
I vividly remember Phantom Menace. I went in super excited. The trailers ended, the fanfare began...
"OMG The new crawl! OMG-OMG-OMG-OM---wait, TAXES??? ...the f**k...?"
Jarjar and endless poop jokes aside, it WAS pretty...
Yes of course its my opinion, thats the nature of forums to voice ones opinions ![]()
Sorry I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to the guy above, and you ninja'd my post. ![]()
It'll probably be very good. I don't think it will be to star wars what the new Star treks were to star trek. (I personally really liked the new Star Treks anyway).
On the other side of things, I really wasn't a fan of the Thrawn Trilogy. I liked thrawn, but it was so 3 character-centric, and the storyline was ridiculous. A lot of -This thing must exist because the storyline needs it to.

Why? The new Star Trek movies were great si-fi action/adventure movies. If the new Star Wars movies are anything like them, then they should be great. But why the new Star Trek movies aren't good is because they are not good Star Trek movies. JJ made action movies in the universe of Star Trek. That's about it. Besides the characters and the **** Enterprise, they do not resemble anything else about ST.
and just to clarify:
This entire post is all opinion
Perhaps all our sigs should have the disclaimer 'the above post reflects the opinion of 'your name here' and does not reflect the views of FFG, GW, Rodenberrys estate or George Lucas or Disney' ![]()
I liked the new ST films, i found the old ones a bit tedious with the exception of wrath of khan and ludicrous at times (the one with the whales) but i feel we've had this discussion several times already.
I loved Episodes 1(Jar Jar too) and 2, but kept low expectations for 3. Reason being is that we all knew something physically and mentally destructive was going to Anakin. Everyone had been waiting since 1980(Empire Strikes back, "Luke, I am your father" scene) to see what made him Vader. 20+years of speculation and hype lead up to an epic lightsaber battle against Ben. It could have been better, but it could have been worse.
As for J.J. Abrams...I love the new life he breathed into the Star Trek movies. Ive seen all the previous movies(I love epic space battles), but could never get into the series because I thought they were boring. I think he'll do a great job with the new Star Wars movies. He's probably going to make some stupid tweak or change that I wont like, but overall they should be a great new trilogy of movies. Really wish they would follow the Thrawn storyline, but doesn't look like thats happening....
While we're on the movie topic, I will say that these rumors of Star Wars characters(Boba Fett, Wedge, Lando, etc.) getting their own spinoff movie are stupid. I hope this doesn't happen at all, but it is totally plausible with Disney running the show now

A lot of the issues people seem to have the new Star Trek seems to stem more from Kurtzman/Orci, just directed at Abrams. I mean, it can't be a coincidence that a lot of the issues people have with Trek seems to also apply to other projects they have been involved with. Abrams is still a better director than Lucas was during the last trilogy, though.
Seriously - the old Star Trek stuff was pretty gosh darn awful.
Gene Roddenberry was a fantastic anthropologist and a terrible sci-fi writer.
The new stuff took itself a little less seriously, and was a bit more fun. That being said, I'm reading A New Dawn, and it's also pretty gosh darn awful. Rebels is okay, I just need more plot - which maybe they're getting to.
Star Trek plods along, so the change to Abrams' style was a bit more jarring. Star Wars is a bit more high adventure, so his style will be far less jarjarring there.
I have high hopes.

Edited by BohrdumbWhen I walked out of Episode I, all I could think was, "That was Star Wars?"
I'm hoping when I'm in the theater watching Episode VII there aren't a lot of trolls yelling indignities to interrupt the enjoyment of people who actually care. I don't know how much kids today trolled on the internet and take that into the real world. In my day you were indignant in the real world and took that into the internet.
A whole lot of excitement mixed with a good dose of disappointment but one thing's for sure.....the Force will awaken.

The new movies could mention Thrawn as these are set another 20 years after the Thrawn trilogy took place. I highly doubt that they will though. Can't really follow the Thrawn storyline with old ass Luke, Han and Leia.
I didn't think the spinoff movies were rumors, don't they already have a director for the first spinoff?
Whether it's "good" or not will depend on the individual, however I worry that many people are over-hyping this movie like with the prequels and will be disappointed when it's not what they were expecting, especially those with strong ties to the post ROTJ EU novels.
I enjoy all 6 movies so I'm not too worried about liking this one. The only thing that has bothered me is how hard JJ is trying to suck up to the OT fans. Trying to avoid CGI at all costs, focusing so much on the original cast instead of the new cast, trying to use all these old Ralph McQuarrie designs, etc, instead of making his own movie.
The prequels were similar to the OT in many ways yet definitely very different as well, That's what I'd hope for the ST, but I feel it's gonna be more like an OT 2.0, which I acknowledge many probably want.
I haven't liked any jar jar Abraham's film or television show I've tried to watch, I utterly hated the star trek films they spit in the face of fans.
I have no expectation that episode 7 will be any good, I'd settle for 5/10 it would then at least be more watchable than the prequels, but I'll probably walk out swear an oath to kill the hack director and go into training so I can punish him and Michael bay for the damage inflicted to my childhood.
What will happen is probably something like this: a whole bunch of people will go and see it, and it will make a bunch of money. A small number of the hardcore will proclaim that JJA sucks, and that the story doesn't live up to whatever EU 'future' they had decided EPs VII-IX would look like. Then, they'll do the same for Episodes VIII and IX. A very few will decide that they won't spend the money. There will be loud complaining on Star Wars-related forums as the hardcore complain about minor details. Some few of the complainers will decide that they are better directors/producers/screen writers than whoever made the movie, while the majority will silently wait for them to put their money where their mouths are. ![]()

I dont know
Prequels seem to have been more disliked than liked.
Mainly for:
too much CGI
losing the 'used future' grittiness
weak characters (other than jango/boba fett obi wan and vader everyone else is pretty forgettable or memorable for all the wrong reasons like Jar Jar. Darth Maul was interesting then just killed off too quick, dooku and grievous were one dimensional poor villains).
So going back to;
Proper actors and models
conceptual imagery
strong characters
would seem like a total no brainer to me.
Its like 'hey lets do star wars like this' and loads of people hated it, a few people thought it was ok a few *liked* it but no one is going to be raving about phantom menace in 30 years like were raving about ANH today (history may prove me wrong but i doubt it). So going back to the things that made star wars 'star wars' cant hurt if doing it quite differently sucked.
This is going to be the first movie where I avoid all movie stills + trailers.
I'm the worst when it comes to hype, and I often get sucked into it when I spend hours a day on discussion forums + watching trailers 10 times a day.
This time it will be different. I'm going to try my best to walk into this movie with a neutral mindset.
Luckily I'll have X-wing and Imperial Assault to keep my mind off it ![]()
