OT: Ep VII E-Wing??? (Potential Spoilers)

By Wraithdt, in X-Wing

Not sure if this is true but it seems plausible. Apparently someone has info on new rebel ships based on leaked concept art for Ep VII and one of them is the E-wing! This new E-wing though won't be the same ship as the one found in the EU. It will be completely new design but at the moment no one really knows for sure if it will make it into the final film. If it does though we may possibly see a new canon E-wing in XWMG.

The other new ship is a C-wing, which according to descriptions, sounds like an awkward ship.

I included the link here if you want further details(no pics unfortunately). Take it with a pinch of salt. >>

I find it very frustrating to try imagine the C-wing, the description isn't that good. With the new E-wing, it's easier to visualize, but frankly the X-wing engines would not sit well below and over the cockpit, so they probably have different intakes, shape etc., unfortunately not described there.

I like the idea of a twin-seater as an upgrade for the X-wing, and what I like even more is that we see now the intent of developing new ships in the same art style as the OT (?), which we will get in our beloved miniature game in the not-so-distant future.

Anyone else feel like it would really, really bother them if they released an E-wing different from what we have?

Also, dat C-wing. A flying right angle? Erm...what?

Anyone else feel like it would really, really bother them if they released an E-wing different from what we have?

YES! I still have hope for the new movies, but I have already said all they have to do to be good is use info we know about EU. They are not to change a single thing or it will be bad!

Why are you surprised JJ is changing things for the sake of changing things?

JJ's versions of Star Trek ships were pretty fantastic. Even with the current E-wing being my favorite ship I'm sure I'll love whatever they come up with. Description is quite different though.

...they were full of senseless open spaces that would get the crew killed, big ass nuts that would sheer off and fly through killing anyone in their path, the engine looked like a brewery and the view screen was made of glass not transparent aluminium and in the wrong flaming place.

The ships were one of the things that made me hate those two films as much as i did.

I mean come on how do you fit 800 crew onto 16 shuttles, it was highly insulting to anyone with a brain.

When I read about the C-Wing, this was all I could think of.

Isn't it more like this?

Please don't tell me you think The Enterprise as a starship design is actually a smart design.

Because if you do, we need to talk. A big saucer section that's kept very far away from the center? Two long objects kept in struts? The entire ship is shapes and struts and y'know, The Constitution Class is an extremely stupid design.

It's cool, though. It's iconic. So who gives a ****? Star Destroyers are stupid too. Most of these designs are absolutely mind bogglingly stupid. So who cares if there's large halls and so on?

And yes, the engine room was a brewery. Y'know why it was a brewery? JJ really enjoys practical effects, but he wanted the engine room to be pretty **** big. And shoot, the big tanks do look like fuel or power tanks, I see no issue with it. It got the feel of an engine room across fairly well to me.

I just don't get it. From the get-go...

uss-enterprise-ncc-1701.jpg

This is a horrible design. It's fragile, it's stupid, its center of mass is ridiculous, and I hope to god that this thing never has to enter the atmosphere during an emergency. Space magic or not the aerodynamics are non existent.

So why not just throw your hands in the air upon seeing this thing?

I hope we can all agree that this one is actually a reasonable design.

I myself like the design of the EU E-wing but it doesn't have the same iconic status as the X-wing so its design was bound to change. I'm just glad that they even decided to consider using the E-wing at all. So far judging from the description it sounds like a decent looking two-man starfighter so as long as the design is good and it shows up in the movie I'm happy:)

INTERNAL DESIGN i'm very very clearly talking about the internal design not the look of the ship.

The engine was wrong because ILM messed up the measurements and it was too late to change it before shooting began so they rolled with it, still looks stupid though.

I'm really having some trouble visualizing the C-Wing based on the description. To me it just sounds like a mess of wings to one side of the cockpit.

Oh no I got what you were saying, I'm just saying that since the Enterprise is so pants on head from the get-go, it doesn't matter if the inside is poorly designed. Everything about it is awfully designed.

So internal design has to make sense but external doesn't? Seems a tad arbitrary.

So, they're making a ship that looks a bit like a LAAT from the prequels? Does this mean we might see a ship that looks like an ARC 170?!?

Edit: So, both sentences starting with "so" - style fail!

I'm really having some trouble visualizing the C-Wing based on the description. To me it just sounds like a mess of wings to one side of the cockpit.

Nothing like a B wing then?

I'm all for a new e-wing. The current one, I find offensive. The laser on top is really, really poor design. The only ship I don't want to buy (except for the upgrades)

The current e wing to me looks like it should have been in battlestar galactica.

Its more like a viper than anything star wars

Im all for a rebuild of that....

I dont know if we should trust the artwork we see, GL had lots of diffrent artists work for him but most the work he rejected. How do we know if anything weve seen isnt the rejects like the Goonies?

IM glad you liked it... Cant stand the fact JJ put Walmart LASER scanners on the helm and didnt bother to alter there apperance.

Maybe they stuffed the rest of crew into the shuttle transporter and saved them all to a usb chip and uploaded the crew later. That or they walked around the set pieces.

More of a D-wing...

I never even mentioned the external appearance what is stupid is wide open spaces inside where a single hull breach could kill the entire engineering crew, or in the second film where checkov saves the captain when he falls off the bridge.

You would never build a hull intended to go into space that you could not section off with bulk heads in the event of an emergency, JJ's ships are death traps when compared to even the primitive 60's enterprise.

Lets face it star wars is no better bridge area's in obvious places that can be hit with a physical object and destroyed like the super star destroyer in jedi.

They designed star trek ships in the 60's when we had no clue how a starship would look and they just kept that aesthetic for later shows but you know what you show those ships to average joe they'll know what its from you show them a prequel ship they probably wont.

800 people in 16 shuttles? Cruise lines put 50 people in their lifeboats which are smaller than shuttles. 800 in 16 shuttles would be doable, not comfortable but easily doable.

I completely agree on the horrible interior designs. It’s supposed to be a ship of the future, but reminded me of a navy ship from the 40s or 50s.

Except we see inside the shuttle when kirk's being born its really not that roomy in there, and that has 5 crew i think so the other fifteen have to carry 52 people each.

The life support isn't designed to scrub the CO2 from the air in that kind of volume so the atmosphere would get very deadly very fast.

It's just one amongst many many nonsensical plot holes in that mess of a movie.

The bridge design for SW ships is infulqnced on the design of most real world sea craft. You keepem safe with long defensive zones. Its unfortunate.

As for the transparent material used on the bridge ILL point out in real life the 2nd strongest material, compressivewise, in the world is fused quarts.

But at least the Steel USN ships had compartments.

I'm not gonna get in this argument, but as a Trekkie, I must say, I hate everything Jar Jar Abrams did with ST. The ships were especially nasty. I'll Take the -A or -D over JJprise any day of the week. Of course my heart sits with the Defiant.

As for a redesigned E-wing, I like the look of it atm, but as long as it maintains the general look of the one we currently have and doesn't screw up anything (e.g. the freaking squashed engines on the JJprise), I'll probably be ok with it.
