I'm losing faith in the Empire.

By nikk whyte, in X-Wing

The imperial navy can't hang with the rebels like they used to. I can't tell you the last time I lost to an imperial list. They ot have two tricks in the playbook, swarm and arc dodging. I know the fluff supports a lack of diversity, but for gameplay, getting tabled everytime I break out the blue and grays is getting old.

Imperials won US Nationals. TIE Phantom is very good.

Not against 3 elite x wings. Wes wedge and Luke. Wes and Luke sitting at PS 10, Wes stripping tokens, Luke pounding off shields, wedge for the kill.

I faced it tonight, and got rocked.

They moved as a wall, basically slowly following my phantoms movement with small tweaks instead of rushing for the kill.

Maybe what ever fixes they bring for the Advanced will help make it into a ship that will contend well against X-Wings. Maybe not.

Formation integrity. Way to go.

3 elite X-wings vs Phantom is so far in the Phantoms favour I'm having trouble imagining how you lost. The enemy has no ability to change position after movement and is making himself extra predictable by moving in formation. Your Phantom should have flown circles around him, even when moving first. And what on earth was the rest of your squad doing while they were trying to chase down the Phantom? He's got his entire squad trying to track down one ship; get your other ships in behind and murder him.

take ACD phantoms with a TIE box, you pretty much covered all possible matchups in the game

Luke & Wes with VI + Wedge = 88 points. What did they spend the last 12 on?

What sort of squad were you flying?

In his defense, I build my Rebs specifically to hunt Phantoms because I despise them so much. He did the whole splitting up deal, but because I was able to deploy last, I chose an opposite edge of the board and slow rolled in at an oblique angle. Once he cloaked the Phantom and turned in, he had no escape. I bank in and go for the throat while he just faces me and watches it happen. The rest of his squad had to fly through asteroids to get at me. PS10 Wes+VI+R3-A2 >any Phantom ever. Stressbot is an auto include on every Rebel list I fly because it dominates the Phantom. Once the expensive ship is down, the support falls to the gentle maneuvering X-wings so gracefully make. Also, Wedge had Predator, which I found is more reliable than PTL, at least for me.

Like I said, he flew slowly, doing 1 banks, and 3 ships in a loose range one wall can cover a lot of space in arc. I got unlucky with a range 3 shot to Carnor Jax leaving me with 2 crits, and my Toes just didn't hold up.

Not to mention the other goodies he ran. Wes had the stressbot, so he melted all my tokens and stressed me, double stressing my PTL interceptor. Wedge had predator, and Luke was just good.

So you had a plan to deal with Phantoms, the tools to do it, and outflew him?

Definitely sounds like Rebels are overpowered and Imperials need buffs.

Pilot Error = Faction Imbalance

Ok.

I have the opposite problem lost 3 games to my friend. He was flying 3 interceptors and I was trying various builds with my shiny new rebel aces. Finally I had to play my Krass, soontir, 2x academy list for a victory. I just can't get the hang of flying Bs.

I'm not saying imperials need buffs or that Rebels are over powered. In fact, I didn't say that. Firesprays, shuttles, and defenders are all very good ships that can hang with any Rebel ship. Those ships are very different from every other imperial ship however.

Three elite X-Wings has always been a good list, ever since Wave 1. They're solid ships and very deadly if used by someone who understands how to use them. Each wave of upgrades has quietly buffed the X-Wings.

It sounds like you like to fly beefy ships that can go toe to toe and slug it out. There's nothing wrong with that. The shooty-dodgey ships aren't for everyone.

The Empire was always doomed to fall.

He isn't stating faction imbalance. He has just had some bad luck and has been disheartened from using the Imperial forces because of some of the losses he has suffered flying them . He flew it like he should have, very clean with no errors. I was able to anticipate the decloak due to his bearing and range.

We must be reading two different posts then. The one I read was pretty clearly stating that the Rebels are better than Imperials, that he can't recall the last time he lost to an opponent running Imperials, and that he gets tabled every time he plays Imperials. I'm not sure how you could be whining about faction imbalance any more clearly without actually using the words "faction imbalance".

Just as a refresher, this was the OP:

Three elite X-Wings sounds like a job for the space cow.

Or just send out a TIE swarm.

I use a mixture or just straight flanking to great degrees of success... I will have to say it sounds more like a piloting error. If you split your forces against a force like that but can't get your ships into position for firing at exactly the same time, you shouldn't engage. I would suggest getting into a habit of planning out when the engagement zone will happen and how to successfully place your ships in prime positioning for that area of the match.

I would say Opportunist, with a PS10 Wes. Just makes sense. Also, 2 copies of VI to bump the two to PS10

Try 4 x Scimitar and 3 x Academy next time and see your rebel friend screaming in agony.
