Maybe you come from other miniature games like Warhammer 40k, or maybe you never laid hands on a tabletop miniature game before, but just love Star Wars.
Personally I'm one of those who never laid my hands on a tabletop miniature game before, although I grew up with friends who painted and played with lots of Warhammer stuff. My interest in Star Wars was also limited to growing up with and loving the first movies that came out, and playing way too much Tie Fighter on my computer back in the 90's. (The only reason I have a deep hatred for those faster than fast A-Wings)
What's really interesting is that X-wing miniatures somehow sparked a huge interest in the Star Wars universe for me. I find myself spending time on Wookieepedia just to read up on the pilots that I fly, which eventually takes me from article to article, and before I know it I've spent hours reading about everything from all the planets to the origins of the lightsaber.
I just recently started watching the animated series The Clone Wars just to get myself updated on some of the story, and I actually installed Tie Fighter again, as the game and storyline is seems even more awesome now that I'm older and actually able to put everything in context.
As for X-Wing, I love games that require tactical thinking and strategy, and those detailed miniatures are just too awesome and kind of nostalgic as most of them were included in Tie Fighter. I've always been a casual gamer, but playing games online never felt the same as gunning down A-Wings with a couple of friends back in the day. I think X-wing miniatures brought some of that feeling back, since it actually requires getting togheter with friends (unless you count Vassal), and the community as a whole seems awesome!
I'm really glad I decided to try out this game, and really looking forward to new ships and exploring more of the Star Wars universe!
