He's a good candidate for a sword of Morthond if someone's playing an Outlands deck too.
Problematic, Outlands work only within one player, and you'll doubtfully run a Hirluin + 2 Tactics heroes deck successfully.

As a solo player I really wanted to get ally versions of Legolas and Gimli for this box.
We'll probably get ally versions of Legolas and Gimli in the Treason of Saruman Expansion. Unless the focus is given over to more Rohan and Ent allies.
I agree, though, it would have been nice to have ally versions in these quests

There's probably a new legolas coming in the treason of Saruman. His art was spoiled some time ago.
Whether it will be a hero or ally in unknown tho; yet this also bodes well for a new gimli version.
I will very much be looking forward to a new Gimli iteration be it hero or ally. The hero is just too outdated at this point. There's better defenders, better attackers, and he doesn't even really fit in his dwarf trait well since tactics has arguably the weakest set of dwarf player cards (Sans Erebor battle master)

I disagree. Veteran Axehand and the Battlemaster are both very potent Dwarf allies IMHO, and with Dwarf synergy, they can be real monsters on the battlefield.
Gimli is extremely potent as well. He is a natural archery sponge and with some good attachments and synergy, I've found him to be one of the most reliable sources of high damage out there. He's on my short list when damage needs to be dealt in heavy quantities.
