OT: Spoilers I Guess?: Adam Driver Playing Young Soontir Fel?

By ChiSoxBoy, in X-Wing

After seeing the leaked pictures of Adam Driver in X-Wing fighter gear, and knowing that Driver is supposedly a/the bad guy in the film, could it be possible that he is playing a young Soontir Fel in flashback scenes and a good portion of the movie takes place in flashbacks? These are all rumors, of course, but I've read one of the main characters is said to be a stormtrooper. There have also been rumors that one of the main characters will end up betraying people at the end of the movie. It's also been confirmed that there will be flashbacks in the movie, as Carrie Fischer's daughter is confirmed to be playing Leia in flashback scenes. Soontir Fel trained at the Academy with Han Solo, so it could make sense that he would be depicted in Rebel/rookie pilot flight gear. Fel was one of the most successful Imperial pilots (leading squadrons of stormtroopers) before secretly defecting to the Rebellion and being discovered later in his career, which could be seen as "one character betraying the other characters" if the movie centers around Fel's early life as a pilot and then progresses into him in present day 30 ABY. Could Driver be playing Fel, or a Fel-like character?

Sounds like a solid theory to me.

Dear god I want it to be

Fel-like character? Possible I suppose. Fel himself? EXTREMELY unlikely

EDIT: Also the Leia flashback is just a rumor, nothing confirmed. Just because Carrie's daughter may or may not have been on set doesn't mean she's in the movie, she could have been there to visit. There have never been flashbacks in star wars before, so I'm kinda doubtful of that happening.

I wonder if there will be a flash back to Jabbas palace?

So far Star Wars was never done by Disney... ;-)

I really hope there aren't flashbacks. One of the very basic things I want the new trilogy to do is stay visually/stylistically consistent with the OT.

I have a feeling that Disney would push for that too, seeing what they have done to make their Marvel movies feel and look similar even though they were directed by a wide range of auteur directors.

Everything is wild speculation right now. With J.J. Abrams propensity for big reveals (Khan) and the Star Wars trope of big reveals (No, Luke, I am your father) I'm betting that most if not all of the 'reliable sources' we have right now are either clueless or deliberately feeding false information.

Red flightsuit, flashback scenes? Not terribly likely.

Please no flashbacks. They're so corny.

I don't mind the movie starting at an earlier time period, but "Ahh, when I was a lad..." *cue harp glissing and fuzzy visual fade.

I agree that my preference would have been no flashbacks...this isn't a reboot, it's a continuation. Sadly, it's pretty much confirmed we have them, so I'll have to wait and see.

As for him being Soontir Fel - sadly unlikely. No one in Hollywood wants to pay royalties for someone else's good idea, no matter how popular with the fans - too many egos.

If there are no flash-backs then how do you explain Darth Vader in the suit being in the movie? He is dead in the present time so the only way to see him is through flashback.

I didn't know he was in the movie...this is not looking good.

With jj directing it was never looking good.

Luke already saw Vader once when he wasn't there. Based on the timing in the story maybe it's closer to a Jagged Fel character.

Vader is a rumor as well - and if he is used it's more likely like the Dagobah cave as mentioned then for a flashback. If you haven't see photo proof or had confirmation from people involved with the movie, I'd consider anything you hear a rumor.

My understanding is that pretty much anything from the EU is already the IP of LFL/Disney, so they wouldn't have to pay royalties to incorporate Fel.

If that is the case then the rights of the Star Wars IP are handled totally differently from the Star Trek rights.

There have been multiple times when returning character stories were dropped and replaced with "new" characters to avoid paying royalties to the original writer who created the character.

yeah star wars rights work completely different from star trek. Anything created for Star Wars, even characters in novels that have been canceled and will never see the light of day, are the property of LFL (now Disney). They own everything. It was one of the earliest rules Lucas had for Star Wars. Going all the way back to the first books and comics back in the 70's.

I have a confession.... I'm really looking forward to Episode VII and I'm of the opinion that JJ is a good choice. There I said it. Am I bad person?

I'm a huge fan of all of Abrams' work so I'm very much looking forward to VII

That's two of us... positivity is now an official movement!

As a point of order... if you're going to post a Spoilers warning, it's usually a good idea to leave out the details out of the Topic title...

I'm still being cautiously optimistic about all of this. Nothing can be worse than the 1978 Holiday Special.

lol, nothing was spoiled. The whole post is pretty well conjecture and rumours piled on each other to create a hoped for outcome.

Example. Fact: Carrie Fisher's daughter visited her on set. Rumour: Her daughter is going to play "young Leia". Conjecture: We will be having flashbacks.

We also have a fuzzy photo of a guy in a flight suit. That does not mean we have Fel. Fact: Adam Driver is in the movie. Rumour: Adam Driver is going to play a bad guy, you know cause he always does that. Conjecture: The guy in the suit is Adam Driver and he is obviously playing Fel in a flashback because he is in an orange flight suit.

Also this comment makes no sense "Soontir Fel trained at the Academy with Han Solo, so it could make sense that he would be depicted in Rebel/rookie pilot flight gear." The Academy they trained at together was the Imperial Academy, so that would be black flight suits.

Oh yeah... well, uh, like you said, it's all conjecture

He could be playing Jagged Fel, Soontir's Son... Especially because Jag and Jaina (Leia/Han's Daughter) get married in the books.

Jacob

We all the know the only person who could pull Fel off is Benedict Cumberbatch.
