Second game o EH and we (me and my 2 sons) bossed Squid-face good n proper!
We felt that Cthulhu was quite a difficult GOO so we played expecting to lose but learn much for future attempts; this is a brief synopsis.
The 3 characters were Lola, Jacqueline and Leo. We were on our last mystery (Rl'yeh Risen) and everyone flocked to space 3 to try and get the two Eldritch tokens on the card that we needed. Lola was magnificent and single handedly got the two tokens. Victory was in sight! However, come the Mythos phase the omen track advanced the doom track to 0 so seconds before victory ol Squiddy rouses himself from his Sunday morning lay in. Disaster!!!
Next round, all three of us starting with Jaqueline moved to Sydney from space 3. Jacqueline made masterful use of her Healing words spell for all 3 of the investigators as they spent their second actions resting (luckily no monsters on Sydney) and we started trying to formulate a plan for defeating Cthulhu.
Before the next turn began the first player marker passed to Lola and they all rested more and tried to aquire that very juicy Assest card "Government Quarantine which became instrumental in our plan . Then our luck turned in the encounter phase. Jacqueline acquired the Dynamite from winning some Gambling game.
We survived the next mythos phase which involved Cthulhu blasting us all with Psychic energy and then began our merciless takedown of the tentacled one!
Lola started. She first buffed her influence up to a meaty 6 and also used her passive ability to add 1 more die to her aquire asset test. She rolled 7 die and got 2 successes. She took a Bank loan to make it 4 and acquired the services of the Government Quarantine. Cthulhu was beset by the worlds finest capabilities and reduced by 4 health to 2.
Jaquelines finest hour approached. She took travel from Sydney in a boat full of Dynamite straight to space 3 and Cthulhu. Then i panicked slightly, there was an Eldritch token on space 3. That was it game over I would become delayed foiling the last part of my glorious plan. Then my son pointed out that I had the Pocket watch asset. Sweet! I was not delayed and spent my second action using the Dynamite on space 3 reducing Cthulhu by another 3 health and blasting him back beneath the waves. Now we had victory!
Absolutely fantastic game that highlighted just how important it is to tactically place the first player marker to make the most efficient use of each characters abilities in tandem with each other. We did get lucky in that the Government Quarantine asset was avail and Jacqy managed to acquire the Dynamite, else Cthulhu would had probably prevailed.
Our score for this game was 12.
