One Good Reason: Why You Love X-Wing.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

The first rule of X Wing.... You DO talk about X Wing.

The second rule of X Wing is.... You do make outlandish predictions and speculations on X Wing

The third rule of X Wing... You DO'NT talk about Attack Dragon Wingy thingy.

One good thing

Anyone and everyone I meet, wants to play it and due to it's awesome simplicity they can - try doing that with other wargames on the market.. (cough)GW(cough)

Its the only game my co-workers want to play every time they come over for my monthly board-game day.

Its hard to pick one reason. I like the minis, I like the Flight Path System, there really isn't anything I DON'T like. But if I HAVE to pick ONE good reason...

It's because after playing wargames for over 30 years I have a great game where I don't have to paint the minis! :D

I love how well balanced the game is despite all the releases FFG have put out.

I love how well balanced the game is despite all the releases FFG have put out.

The guys have been working on that a lot, so it seems based on the new cards and their recent interview video comments.

All is well, and will continue to be cool.

:)

The most important reason: because I can lose.

There is nothing more boring for me than to figure out how to reliably win at a game. With x-wing, I'll never know ahead of time what I'll face or whether what I had in mind will work. That's fun for me :)

Mine is because I get to fly around in some of my favorite fighters from way back in the day.

I enjoy arranging and organizing all the little cardboard tokens into trays.

So hard to pick one thing - it is the whole package. Simple system, feels like a dogfight game, incredible miniatures, the IP, etc.

Guess the best reason is the awesome community though :)

Because after a game I think to myself... hmm, I want to try THAT now.

The thrill of outmaneuvering your opponent.

I love SW, I love the models, the pilots and everything, but I'd play a flight path game just ship bases. Nothing is more satisfying than anticipating your opponent's maneuvers and flipping behind them.

It's this. I "get" this game on a level that I don't get other games. I'm pretty good at predicting my opponent (most of the time). It was my first game where I played two Academy Pilots vs. Luke and I managed to kill him in 4 turns. It was a thrill.

Wedge Antilles.

Well really, all the pilots from the X-Wing books.

And the fact that the ship stats are actually recognizable from the Legends universe.

Yes. It feels so visceral and so personal. It's not luck or dice (though they matter). It's feeling of proving yourself against your opponent; your mind or will versus their's.

I love that I don't have to paint miniatures.

As a Warhammer 40,000 player, it takes quite a lot of time and effort to get a playable army assembled and painted. It also takes some preparation to get a game together and the games can last a while. X Wing let's me get a couple of games in without having to worry about setting off an entire afternoon or evening to play. That being said, I still love Warhammer.

Yes! They can have the cool and niftiest ship, but if they aren't good, you can school 'em with Academy Pilots.

I've found when I play prospective players, I need to play ultra stupid and let them win. Otherwise I crush 'em and they don't usually get into the game!

I really like the game because the rules are clear and easy to follow.

The fact it was alot cheaper was also a big draw.

It's Star Wars. Bonus reason: tonight I spent hours watching and officiating a single game with two newbies and had a lot of fun. I would have had more fun had I played too, but that's besides the point. I can have fun just watching games of X-Wing.

Yomi.

Yomi is why I play. Also TIE Defenders.

Customizability of ships which allows endless replayability :)

It's fun.

Fairness of the distribution. I don't mean logistics. The fact that there are no "Ultra Rare" ships or upgrade cards. Everyone that purchased a Slave 1 expansion got a Kath Scarlet. No need to buy booster pack after booster pack to get her like CCGs. If you and I have the same collection we can make the same list and it comes down to skill instead of luck of the draw or amount of money spent on a hobby.

This is one element that certainly puts Fantasy Flight ahead in my books. The LCG format follows the same, where you pay 12.95 for a booster for the game, and you get EVERYTHING you need to be tournament ready. There's no exclusivity, and it's not expensive at all really, especially compared to the old CCG or Magic or other games.
