I hadn't seen Anduril or Sting before, but maybe I haven't been paying attention. Does Anduril allow a second attack against an enemy? I'm not sure on this one.
Still disappointed in Mithril Shirt.

yeah, Anduril was a new reveal. I had the same question as my Tookish friend, above-- am I reading this right, Anduril allows an attack without exhausting a character, right? Similar cards like Quick Strike and Hands Upon the Bow have written into the card "exhaust a character," but Anduril does not. Free attack?
edit: I guess since the hero just defended, they will be exhausted anyway (duh). But yeah, should work like Quick Strike and allow you to attack an enemy more than once. Not against 'immune' enemies though, since you have to 'target' the enemy.
Edited by GrandSpleenAndruil is not new here, it was spoiled before (at the gencon, if my memory serves me well). For what of it, the attack you make with Andruil is not regular targeted attack, so from my standpoint you still should be able to declare regular attack against this enemy later this turn.
And while mithril shirt is simple, it's useful - most of the time ring-bearer will be a hobbit, and if you're gonna use sting for it's effect, you'd better take care of his protection if encounter card discarded will not possess required amount of threat to kill attacker.

I'm afraid, it's question of balance more than it's question of theme here.
sting also combos really nicely with the new Frodo's ability, especially for situations like stabbing a cave troll in the foot!
After re-checking the rules it appears that Anduril does NOT allow multiple attacks to a single enemy, it simply enables a riposte from the equipped character (who does not need to be ready). So it may not be the right thing to do sometimes.
Hm, Took, the way I'm reading it, Anduril will allow a counter-attack made by the defending character, and then you may go ahead and declare an attack against the same enemy per the regular game framework when it is your turn to declare attacks. Is that how you are reading it? In my mind, that is 2 attacks against the same enemy (and permissible).

Card declares an attacker, not an attack.
Page 20, paragraph 8.
The limit on attacking an enemy only applies to attacks declared during the step of the combat phase where players declare attacks. Anything else is fair game, which is why something like Quick Strike, which uses similar language, can allow you to "double up" on an enemy.

Yeah, we just went through all this in a thread here. It's weird in my opinion, but essentially the text in the FAQ cited in that thread applies *only* to "Ranged" attacks. Although it says "card effects such as Ranged," as far as I can tell there are no other "card effects" other than Ranged that do count toward your 1-per-round attack limit. Hands Upon the Bow and Quick Strike are "card effects" that allow you to declare attacks against a single enemy more than once per round.
OK, good. I hadn't seen the Dunhere/Haldir thread and Caleb's answer clearly allows an extra attack from Anduril. Case closed as far as I'm concerned.
To be clear, my complaint about Mithril Shirt is that it is exactly the same as Ring Mail. I think it should be better.
Same effect, but... only costs 1 instead of 2, doesn't require tactics sphere, can attach to a non-dwarf/hobbit, and isn't restricted. If this were a regular player card I would include it in every deck I played.
But if you are disappointed because it doesn't have a cool effect like Sting and Anduril, then I somewhat agree.
So attached to Elrohir, Anduril would give him +1 willpower +1 defense and +1 attack.
If he defends an attack and uses his ability to remove a resource and ready, can he then use andurils response to exhaust the attachment and attack back for 3 against the defended foe and then after that defend another attack?
The attack only seems to exhaust Anduril and not the character in any way so it seems that as long as you are able to ready the attached hero after its declared as a blocker you can then not only attack back with Andurils ability but can also declare the character as a defender again or attack a second time with it during player attacks.
Sounds right to me.
Page 14, Core Rules, under the Ready and Exhausted header:
"When a card has been “used” for some purpose, such as to commit to a quest, to attack, to defend, or to use a character ability that requires the card to exhaust, it is turned 90 degrees sideways and considered “exhausted.” An exhausted card cannot exhaust again (and therefore cannot partake in any action that requires exhaustion) until it has been readied once more."
Page 20, Core Rules, under the Attacking Enemies header:
"In order to declare an attack, a player must exhaust at least 1 ready character. A character must exhaust to be declared as an attacker."
Anduril allows you to declare the attached hero as an attacker. And, in order to be "declared as an attacker", the rules specifically state that the hero must exhaust.
So, with Elrohir, his response can happen after he is declared as a defender. But, he has to exhaust if you use the response on Anduril, so he will not be ready (unless of course you have some other means of readying him) to attack or defend again after resolving the ability on Anduril. Anduril seems to work as a sort of readying effect in that it allows you to both defend and attack against the same enemy. Paying a resource to ready Elrohir would be pointless.
