A lost message in these forums

By Osoroshii, in X-Wing

I think having members who are on here actively and have put in the time should be mods to help out the forum.

No. Absolutely no.

Members have personal bias, egos, their own agendas and exclusive cliques. The cliques in the X-Wing forums are as bad as anywhere else on the internet.

I have read some 'long time, respected' forum members chastise people for daring to question their alleged understanding of the rules.

People see police cars on the roads, they slow down. If people see more FFG moderator posts, they will be more mindful.

Let FFG moderate their own boards.

You don't want forum members to be mods. Its just not a good idea. It also turns into more netdeck-y/groupthink feeling. Teamliquid has a little bit of this problem, as good of a strategy forum it is.

I think the one thing that drew me to this forum at first was the potential to trade strategy thoughts with other people and for a while, to learn how to list build easily. I really really wish this forum had a strategy subforum that was all about learning to fly better, trying unconventional lists, tips and tricks to fly better, MathWing etc. I know not everyone is interested in this type of stuff, but I think it really helps the game mature.

A lot more people seem to be interested in clicking the click bait troll threads, or the off-topic threads, which is understandable I guess. What could be done to encourage more X-wing related thinking?

What do you want to see on these forums anyways?

What do you want to see on these forums anyways?

If what we have been talking about for the Subs and FFG only Mods gets done, that would do for me. If I want to read crazy (fun) speculations and general Star Wars stuff I go to the main forum. If I have a battle report or converted model to share I go to these subs, and so on.

This would fix just about every issue I think.

I would like to have more of the regular people on here having fun with WAYyyy less of the recent personal violent BS.

:)

I have noticed that my likes and comments have been lower than they normally are. That is because I made a few hard core posting about the mess that has been affecting the forum recently. That is a shame too, but if it gets fixed and a few people hate me for pointing out the mounting BS months ago, that will be cool too.

I ain't the only one on here keeping it real and fun, and I enjoy that a hell of a lot.

;)

When I do post something substantial, it doesn't get a lot of attention. I've tried creating Experimental List topics, which don't get much attention, nor did my Battle Report (though those never really did).

Quoting you again to say this: it's hard for me, at least, to give feedback or respond meaningfully to list that's really interesting, but doesn't look like anything I have any experience with. There are only so many ways to say "wow, that's so crazy it might work!"--and by the time I get a chance to consider a post of yours in the kind of detail it deserves, it's usually stuffed full of "likes" and people saying, basically, "wow, that's so crazy it might work!"

But that doesn't mean I don't find them interesting. Please keep them up!

…and although I've flogged this point to death elsewhere, I think this forum (and the game in general, right now) has a groupthink problem. It's not exactly netdecking, but there seem to be a lot of people who look at the collected tournament stats not as a list of potential opponents to consider beating, but as a menu of squads and archetypes they should consider running.

By contrast, you're one of the few people I see on this board genuinely trying to push new buttons with unusual toys, and that's an incredibly valuable thing. It would be a shame to lose it!

what he said!

Seriously, we need more out of the box ideas to combat the flavor-of-the-meta thinking that just rehashes the same things over and over again in slightly different permutations.

As the old hands have noticed, I've been posting here less and less. It's harder and harder for me to care. I show up and I see a host of topics that I've read before dozens of times. When I do post something substantial, it doesn't get a lot of attention. I've tried creating Experimental List topics, which don't get much attention, nor did my Battle Report (though those never really did).

I'm a list developer. It's what I do. I come up with weird, terrifying ideas. I thrive on interaction and interesting thoughts. But I see topic after topic poisoned by drama and personal sniping. I understand not everyone is going to get alone with everyone else. I get it. But it's draining. Now when I come up with a new idea, I don't have a lot of impulse to scurry up to the forum to share it with everyone, as I did when I first discovered the Lambda.

I'm working on the YT-2400 right now, but a lot of the top players have basically come to the same conclusion as I have about how to build Dash. Little notice has been paid to the A-Wings I'm working with post rebel aces, at least by those who haven't suffered their wrath directly.

I know much of this is just burnout and fatigue. I'm loving the game itself as much as I ever had. Possibly more, with the YT-2400. It's just harder for me to find the energy to hop on here and share that love.

Instead of just turning this into a session of 'The sheep hates everything' I turn to you guys. What do you guys want to see? Is there something you guys want to see? Some article I can write up, ala my Lambda 101 and 102 articles? And don't say TIE Advanced, I'm not a god.

Honestly, I would love to comment more on people's lists, but I want to play them first, and until I can convince others at the FLGS to get into x-wing beyond a beginner level, I'm lucky to get one game per week. At at that I'd rather just have fun.

But to answer your question, yes please with an A-Wing article. I'd also like a veteran player to give their opinions on Mel's star destroyer in casual play, and thoughts on the YT-2400.
