for now I just try and stay away from the threads that just seem to draw out the negativity. I know the Forums here have warning points and you can only view your own warning points. Perhaps a way to get people in line is to show warning points so every user can see where these points are doled out. Maybe as a public shaming tool it could help people consider what they post about. you could even build a redemption system where if you receive no warning point in a specific time period they take one away. This way you get rewarded for positive behavior.

Sounds nice in theory, but what it would actually turn into is a massive wave of second-guessing mods. You report something and don't see the warning points go up. Why not?!? That was obviously offensive/trolling/hateful/stupid, how could they not warn him for that? And the obvious counter, "Hah! You can see they did nothing to me, so I'm just going to do it more because I know it annoys you now!"
Not going to end well.
Just issuing warning points in the first place would be a step in the right direction. So far I know of only one person with a warning point, and I have a pretty good guess about another.

I think those are very good points.
But it's nice that they've noticed.
I think having members who are on here actively and have put in the time should be mods to help out the forum. I am a newbie here, but on several GW boards they had members who were around almost as long as the webmasters that became mods for the forums and such.
It is an important message. The problem they've created for themselves is really that they've not maintained a visible presence. Do that and 99% of the problems are gone. Find someone in their staff who loves the game and loves talking about it and make him a mod. A moderator is nothing more than a regular user with a few more buttons. But it's nice that they've noticed.

I would never, EVER hold up the GW forums (which crashed and burned) as a model to follow, and I worked for them...
the simple truth is, if you want to grow a garden you have to pull the weeds.
But it's nice that they've noticed.
^ This.
It was the only thing FFG was underperforming. Thanks for posting this @Osoroshii
Bump because it may bring joy and hope to others

I had noticed that as well about the locked forum. When I first saw it come back up (and knowing it was a Ribann troll thread) I ignored it. But was surprised (pleasantly) that they locked it

Gone are the days of needing to know.
If I see one more GDMFing silly: yew-hoo here I am with my list, tell me all about my list post...
Huh. I'm surprised that annoys you Boss. Isn't that the sort of thing the forum is actually for?
Well there for a while it was just spam. It has chilled out to a nice level now. I have noticed that these topics have been getting fewer responses in general, so I was not the only one getting tired of the constant flow we had going on.
The simple truth is this forum needs some work done.

As the old hands have noticed, I've been posting here less and less. It's harder and harder for me to care. I show up and I see a host of topics that I've read before dozens of times. When I do post something substantial, it doesn't get a lot of attention. I've tried creating Experimental List topics, which don't get much attention, nor did my Battle Report (though those never really did).
I'm a list developer. It's what I do. I come up with weird, terrifying ideas. I thrive on interaction and interesting thoughts. But I see topic after topic poisoned by drama and personal sniping. I understand not everyone is going to get alone with everyone else. I get it. But it's draining. Now when I come up with a new idea, I don't have a lot of impulse to scurry up to the forum to share it with everyone, as I did when I first discovered the Lambda.
I'm working on the YT-2400 right now, but a lot of the top players have basically come to the same conclusion as I have about how to build Dash. Little notice has been paid to the A-Wings I'm working with post rebel aces, at least by those who haven't suffered their wrath directly.
I know much of this is just burnout and fatigue. I'm loving the game itself as much as I ever had. Possibly more, with the YT-2400. It's just harder for me to find the energy to hop on here and share that love.
Instead of just turning this into a session of 'The sheep hates everything' I turn to you guys. What do you guys want to see? Is there something you guys want to see? Some article I can write up, ala my Lambda 101 and 102 articles? And don't say TIE Advanced, I'm not a god.

I have some ideas of my own about them, but I'm really curious what you're doing with A-wings.

I simultaneously want to "like" and "not like" this.
Liking won out!

Sable, I will be really sad if you stop posting.
Higher level flying tips are always beneficial.

Quoting you again to say this: it's hard for me, at least, to give feedback or respond meaningfully to list that's really interesting, but doesn't look like anything I have any experience with. There are only so many ways to say "wow, that's so crazy it might work!"--and by the time I get a chance to consider a post of yours in the kind of detail it deserves, it's usually stuffed full of "likes" and people saying, basically, "wow, that's so crazy it might work!"
But that doesn't mean I don't find them interesting. Please keep them up!
…and although I've flogged this point to death elsewhere, I think this forum (and the game in general, right now) has a groupthink problem. It's not exactly netdecking, but there seem to be a lot of people who look at the collected tournament stats not as a list of potential opponents to consider beating, but as a menu of squads and archetypes they should consider running.
By contrast, you're one of the few people I see on this board genuinely trying to push new buttons with unusual toys, and that's an incredibly valuable thing. It would be a shame to lose it!
Thank you for reposting this. It gives me hope for the future of this forum.
You should do what you want to do and not worry about how well it will be received. None of us are supposed to be stars here, but all of us shine in our own way.
The ignore list I have setup now has chilled this place out just fine. It is a nice aspirin, the low dose kind, that takes the edge off.
Also I have accepted that I just need to bookmark topics about modeling and painting in faction specific folders. That works great too.

They need an off-topic sub-forum and a moderator with the guts to throw all topics in there that are OT.

Fel's Wrath? I heard it actually placed very well at a recent tournament, so maybe there's something there we're missing. That might be more of a meta call than list strategery.
Edited by WonderWAAAGHYou are so right Sable. I also consider myself a list developper (nowhere near your skill though) I love to experiment and build a list around a ship or an upgrade to try and find a way to make it work. The less it is used in the current tournament scene the better. Or just make a list around a theme. I think I actually have more fun building the list than actually playing it. I sometimes organise a tournament where I create a bunch of list that is randomly distributed at the start just so I can see how they actually play. It also allow the players to experiment outside their comfort zone.
Anyway, all that to say that list building is my thing and I love to share them. But lately, it looks like there is a forum fatigue around those threads and they tend to either not get a lot of response and fade into obscurity or derail into an off-topic subject. So why bother creating threads about that? The only time I can get my fix now is when another player offer a challenge or when there is a new thing spoiled and we all try to find the perfect combo. Ah well, maybe it will come back and people will start talking about the current game instead of the new thing to come again.
