I believe you last thread was harshly deleted, I would like to hear what people would take, if you knew you were facing two Delta defenders and a shuttle with HLC, what are the best counters? Or Spock to their Lizard?

If you think that was harsh, you should take a look at this:

Ohwait. You already did. ![]()
But yes. I'm interested as well. How are people finding the Defenders, both to fly and to fly against. I know a lot of attention has gone to the Phantom from the Wave 4 releases, but these guys are proving to be an utter nightmare to handle at the moment!
(or maybe it's just Ashley's lucky green dice...)
Edited by FTS GeckoThe TIE defender is underrated and thus underestimated, something that gives it an advantage in of itself. Plus Rexler mauls Falcons.

This is the kind of substance you probably should have included in your initial post(s). I don't think your other thread was deleted because of the tone so much as the fact that it amounted to little more than forum spam.
Edited by WonderWAAAGHI rate the Defender at 8.6 out of 10... Baby!

I've been playing a lot with Rexlar. I just give him Predator and let him go to work. I know a lot of early talk recommended the Engine Upgrade on them, but I've found that you really don't want to overload them with upgrades. They're expensive enough as it is, and it can be better to ensure they have solid support.

You are probably correct but what Rebel ships would you take to beat this list?
In the words of Hawkeye, "Well, they can't bank worth a ****. Find a tight corner." Flank them, especially with high-PS Phantoms.I believe you last thread was harshly deleted, I would like to hear what people would take, if you knew you were facing two Delta defenders and a shuttle with HLC, what are the best counters? Yes I have found the cheap defenders, with little or no upgrades to be the dangerous ones, must be that underestimation we have been hearing about.

The ships are immaterial so long as Threepio is on board.
I shall bow to the experience of the undisputed expert in forum spam.
One on one, Defenders appear to be jousters without peer in the game - 3's across the board, able to keep their actions when they K-turn, and low pilot skill for the generics means they don't get blocked all that often. They're tough, too - six hit points is a lot to munch through (especially when you find yourself incapable of landing a single hit, like me at the moment).
Flanking them appears to be the key, as well as taking them out early. I'm not sure you want to be facing them in the end game...

Take credit for your own work. No thread of mine has ever been deleted. ![]()

You could always, you know, not joust. You might be surprised to find that turreted ships have been fairly popular in the meta recently.
Edited by WonderWAAAGHWow, the mods are really going at it today.
I don't have any complaints about the in-game balance of the Defender. I do think they're a bit odd in terms of translating lore into gamepiece. That's the reason I haven't picked up any. I have similar issues with the Phantom, but I did pick one of those up in order to learn how it works and how to fly against it, seeing how popular it's become with my opponents. The Defender hasn't been as popular, plus it seems like a normal ship to me, white K-turn notwithstanding.
The white K-Turn gets a lot of hype, but I've found there's one other trait to the Defender that gets overlooked: it's one of the few Imperial small ships capable of a 1-bank (the others are the Advanced and Bomber, neither of which are jousters). That allows it to creep forward a bit before it booms forward to turn around, especially when paired with a Barrel Roll, while the rest of the squad speeds ahead.

I don't actually have any complaints either to be honest. It's a beast. I know it's a beast. It's costed like a beast. It's at it's most beastly when it's flying in straight lines. I guess I'm just going to have to find a way to

....dat better? Hmmm?
Beastly little blighters, aren't they?
That picture. LOL.
It doesn't really say "awed respect" to me as much as
"Baby Flying Purple Robot Eyeball and Friends first big adventure."
The defenders are good, it is just that too many people count on the 3 shields to protect it.
I've had a lot of success with Defenders so far, I've been playing against most new players recently so that factors into my success, still I'm really liking them. I do find the high cost really limits choice for the rest of the squad. I've been using mini-swarms of bombers so long that the Defender dial isn't really that difficult to get use to, although I do miss the 1 straight and 5 k-turn. I just wish there was another named pilot or an EPT generic (the same goes for the bomber).

Then how about...

Sweet, my eyeballs have just ejaculated and that does not even make sense!!!!!!!!!
The ultimate in manfight fightercraft
It's a great ship. My pick of wave 4 by a mile. The way the dial is configured places it in its own unique category and is testament to how good the games core design is. I love tracking back it's movement at the end of the game - something I regularly do as part of my post game analysis - I dont fly anything else like it.
Sweet!!!!!!!!!

What would be the best way to spend the last three or four points do you think? Stealth on howl or Rex, hull or shield on someone?
I took Defenders in one of my very first 100 point matches and I got myself KO'd pretty quick. Don't run them naked unless you really know what you're doing with them.
That said, I have 3 for a reason, and I will be using them.
