If you are worrying about the future of X-wing

By Babaganoosh, in X-Wing

Too bad those guys didn't ask what licences they have for what ships to make. This way we can find out once and for all if we are to get any Prequel ships Episode I, II and III or if we will get Episode VII ships later as well.

In terms of Episode VII ships, they asked Steve Horvath that question in one of their video interviews at GenCon last year ... his reply with a twinkle in his eye and a smile was "now wouldn't that be something..."

Talked with Frank ans Alex at the tournament this past weekend. These guys are definitely passionate guys who truly love the gsme and want to see it get better and better. We are in good hands.

Cheap PS 5 generic with an ept and optional cannon slot? That thing could be a MONSTER.

If you don't engage it, sure--but Scyks look basically like TIE Fighters, durability-wise. Hit 'em a couple of times and they'll fall apart.

Cool stuff:

Star Viper- tricky. My bet is someway to manipulate facing/arcs, the whole upright flight thing...I worry about an upgrade that comes with it for interceptors... If its not a mod then it's just as good for phantoms and 2-3 other ships and not really an interceptor fix.

Even if it is a mod at is just as good for phantoms... Advanced cloaking device is also a modification, so, it wouldn't be able to stack with ACD, while interceptors can run dual modifications...

Imperials are opposed to all the cool stuff, like disintegrations. Their hired help is always going to be dull.

Yeah, the empire would totally pay for your service, and fine you double for using illicit means

If they make EP7 ships before any prequel/clone war ships I will be seriously pissed.

They would be such huge hypocrites with all their talk about it being rebellion era, yet refusing to include old ships that would still be around, but having no issues with making ships that are 30some years in the future.

I don't buy the licensing BS either. Why would a product only be able to reference certain movies? Plus they already have a few prequel things in the game already like the seismic charges and senator's shuttle.

I think they are just all die hard OT fans who refuse to allow prequel ships in the game, which is a **** shame.

No I don't think so, I think it could be a long time with us, greettings.

Fantastic video. Good to see the game's in good hands. Good to hear the TIE Interceptor and Advance will get some help.

If they make prequel ships before Ep. VII ships, I'll be seriously pissed. Why waste resources on prequel dalliances when you could be releasing ships that are relevant to the game's established timeline (roughly speaking, the Z-95 to the E-wing)?

Let's just ride this Rebellion-era/Galactic Civic War period out for another 2 or 3 or 5 years, then FF can come out with Star Wars: Clone Wars Miniatures Game. Everything will make sense, eras won't step on the other era's toes.

Wow great interview... They really seem to be taking note of the community, paying attention to tournaments and general play as well... just overall doing a pretty great job with this game imho. After being a GW fan for most of my life, this particular game is a real breath of fresh air.

Glad to hear the Advanced is getting fixed.... I am hoping, based on nothing but hoping, that they will release a Tie Avenger model that contains the upgrade cards that could all be cross compatible with Tie Advanced while still leaving something unique to the Avenger too. To me, that would be the most awesome solution :)

I think everything they have been doing so far is great for the most part, but my overall wishlist would be -

1. (As mentioned) Tie Avenger with advanced compatible upgrades

2. Imperial Epic ship or two

3. start releasing accesories, especially a bag of spare flight stems in particular, but also bases, ability to buy cards either individually or by pack.

Anyways... very cool and encouraging interview!

If they give me the TIE Avenger I might just give them my bank account number!

Cool stuff:

Scyk= seek

Awareness of the lameness of Milenium Fortress

Stop the blocking debate. Finally.

Good to hear faction identity. S&V get tricks, traps, combos, and less PS "than the rebels". I hope traps= deployment tricks and battle field manipulation.

Ships:

Advanced- we already knew they were fixing it...still don't have a time frame. I'm betting on titles to fix it (they mentioned titles a few times).

Hwk- stealing is very villainous. Less Scumy (that's still the rebels). They also me toon jamming...hoping that's not literal.

Star Viper- tricky. My bet is someway to manipulate facing/arcs, the whole upright flight thing...I worry about an upgrade that comes with it for interceptors... If its not a mod then it's just as good for phantoms and 2-3 other ships and not really an interceptor fix.

M4-A- sounds awesome. Sounds like it's everything the z was supposed to be: customizable. An awing with a cannon sounds pretty **** fun. Also makes me think it will have a new cannon with it (they mention "other" upgrades that help the defender).

Firespray- same value. Good to hear. Boba the Beast! Also good to hear. Confirms they will reprint pilots. I'm betting on a free TL acquire during placement and a free reroll attacking or defending when he has a TL.

Great Video. Would love to see more.

Starviper gets facing tech...check

New Boba with offensive and defensive rerolls...check

New cannon with interceptor...check.

Hopefully I'm as clairvoyant about the hwk and advanced.

How are you reading this and haven't seen what the new boba is?

Here's the card:

Well I am one happy bunny now. I want to meet those guys, shake their hands, and give them money.

Ummm. You play x-wing you are giving them your money, your just going to give them more now

With the talk of the card that helps Interceptors there is also the already leaked Experimental Interface which gives them a Rebel Aces type upgrade where they can now essentially take two EPTs instead of having to just automatically having to take PTL to make them useful. It being a modification also means that it cannot be removed by a crit.

Furthermore, it allows interceptors that previously had no use due to their lack of EPT (like Kanos) to be fielded much more effectively.

It really doesn't, because EI can only activate upgrade cards that require an action. You can't do anything from your action bar, and without an EPT the only things you can use are engine upgrade and targeting computer. Obviously an engine upgrade is an idiotic waste of points, which leaves the targeting computer. Is a target lock every turn for 5 points and a stress token really enough to make those pilots a viable option? I really doubt it.

Even that won't work, as the Computer (as well as the Engine) adds the action to your action bar, which you then use normally. You don't use anything on the actual upgrade card, thus there's nothing for you to use Interface with. It really is just about useless with (most) Interceptors.

The only interceptor combo with EI I can come up with is Fel, squad leader and EI. Also Fel with expose and EI, if you want a suicidal Fel, haha.

Plus it double stresses you. Almost never a good thing.

Thanks for posting this. Great video and lots of great info.

Am I the only one surprised by the fact that they do not mention the lack of an Imperial Epic Ship AT ALL?

You are not. But I do believe they (FFG) are hampered by what they could release as epic ships for the Imperials... I mean what small Imperial cruisers are the right size to fit into epic games? They would have to release Imperial Super Epics to fit a regular Star Destroyer in the game.

I get your point, however : FFG guys are very smart, and when they introduced Epic, they did with Rebel Epic Ships, and upgrade cards not being specifics to Rebels not mentioning Rebel only. I just cannot imagine that they did NOT have a single clue about a potential Huge Imperial ship since the inception of Epic. This seems just not possible.

True, I see where you are going with this. Could they possibly be keeping a wrap on things until the new tv show comes out?

They probably can't release a Gozanti model until after it's debut on Rebels.

Sounds like Scum HWKs (and dare I hope Rebels?) away get access to the Jam action, which would be fantastic. I'd love to see that make the jump from Epic into the Standard game.

As for Imperial epic ships: it's possible that they also wanted to wait and sees how the Rebel ships be received before committing production resources for the Empire. Now that it's been well received, we'll see more. I'd be shocked it one hasn't been released by May of 2015.
