Your Trials Begin
Man, just when my excitement was waning a little, Three Trials has totally geared it up again! I think what I like most is actually feeling like I'm thinking about how to run new deck types for the first time in ages, especially a secret silvan deck.
It's also good to see a new hero for spirit who breaks the run of sub-10 threat heroes in that sphere. Nicely rounded stats and an ability that can be built around that offers new uses for loads of old cards: good work FFG! And more secrecy allies (which, in my view, was always what was lacking from secrecy)!
nice gallery.. is there ones for the other sets? Really fast way of looking at a set!
omg...

My dream "assassin deck" I have been trying to get working for the longest time just got a real boost. When secrecy came out I have been trying to make a tactics secrecy deck for staging area management! It has always been a bit meh.. but just giving secrecy to all events.. man that is awesome.

wow, loving this kind of thing.

I have a feeling these guys are going to be huge in the coming cycle. Few of these out, all in mail all untapping after defending healing each other... seams good!

change the number in the web address.
Silvan Tracker is already as hard to kill as a cockroach when Elrond is around, but with eleven mail he could survive Armageddon.

Interesting. How does this deck work? What heroes do you use?
I like booored's idea too... sounds fun. Thalin for sure, then a bunch of direct damage events. Lore could work too, get some use out of Infighting and Expecting Mischief, maybe a Ranger Bow or two. Thalin, Pippin, Merry sounds good but starts at 21. Would need to draw an early Gandalf or else drop a hero...
Also, hurray for Tactics allies with willpower (Rumil). I am counting the days until I can populate an entire deck with 1+ willpower tactics allies, go monotactics and rule the field of battle as well as the quest.

Totally agree. But I don't think we're there yet.
Finally got the time to play TTT. A very good test, but I managed a win with my superhero attachment deck after a first game loss. In the winning game I opened with Stone Barrow and Raven's Guardian and then had a string of shadow cards that caused additional attacks (plus threat gain). I triggered Strider's ability on turn 2! I really didn't think I was going to win it, but some timely Council from Elrond and a chance meeting or two with the Galadhrim kept me afloat.
Well, I can't wait to try out Elrond+Silvan Tracker+Elven Mail+Burning Brand combo.
Two Elven Trackers with 1 def, 5 hp and, ignoring all shadows and regenerating 4 hp each turn would be pretty hard to kill.
The quest allows the player to choose the order of the trials. The first time you play it you might just grab them randomly because you don't really know what you are going to have to do. The second time you play it you can definitely choose the order that is best suited for your deck. It was a cake walk for me after I cracked the code.
I recommend choosing the trials randomly as well.

I don't have it yet, but is it really as easy as you say, or do you think you cracked the code for the particular deck your using and that different decks will have different codes to crack?
I think that there is a particular sequence that will favor most decks.
And I'm not sure I would say it's easy. I'm playing my best deck after all.
Edited by Bullroarer TookParticular sequence? Some elements you can't choose and are still random, not under your control.
Edited by MyNeighbourTrololoYou can choose the sequence of the trials and in my opinion that can make a huge difference.
I prefer the first trial: the intuition one
...after: the perseverance
...and finally: the strength trial
- The strength trial force you to kill one guardian. You might be ready at the end, but not at first round.
- Perseverance is good if you pass it in a one round, when you are ready playing rounds in the intuition trial.
- The intuition trial is a time thing, so it is ok to be the first trial to resolve.
the trials is just a more complex version of the trolls in Carrock. There is a order dictated by your decks for battling them as well,.

I looked at the cards online on Beorn's card searchamabob and there are some sweet cards for the decks I'm using at the moment (Elven Mail
, Warden of Arnor
). Tuesday officially can't get here soon enough.
After looking Warden of Arnor is a lot less use than I thought (although the idea of a Lore Aragorn, Idraen, Spirit Glorfindel deck interests me).
So far secrecy strategy for solo decks seems quite useless on The Three Trials and Dunland Trap. Many secrecy decks need a few rounds to get up and running, and both of these scenarios especially TTT, hit hard right away.
So, why the secrecy love if it seems to provide no apparent relevance to the scenarios we are encountering? Not that the cards in the AP have to directly related to the scenario being played, but I do like to try new cards out while playing the new scenario. i'm just not seeing the secrecy connection.
The scenarios are pointing towards aggressive strategies that can pack a punch right away.
