I think it's a cool concept, but arguably the Scimitar Assault Bomber would have been a more reasonable bomber to put forward in in place of the Punisher. Especially given that it did replace the TIE Bomber just as Tomax suggested.

My completely revised Assault Gunboat custom expansion.
Tell me what you think.Assault Gunboat custom expansion pack:
Gunboat showcase:
CONSIDERATIONS: It's an expansion that not only to add the "Imperial Y-Wing", but offer some useful upgrade cards. The dial is a cross between the X-Wing and the Y-Wing. Maybe too good? The ship was quite capable of keeping track of the enemy in the PC games. I made it 1 agility because this was hard to dodge enemy fire (maybe because of the large profile?) - but 2 agility wouldn't be far fetched (in this case, the hull or shield should be reduced).Lore-wise, it would have 5 hull (equivalent to the Y-Wing) and 3 shield (better than the X-Wing), making it tough to kill.It has only 2 missiles (lore accurate) and the cannon, but an upgrade card that allows it to replace 1 missile for 1 other ordnance (the ship was known to carry torpedoes when needed). The "Alpha Strike" elite upgrade can be used by pilots with more than one ordinance/canon/turret, but it is specially useful in the Gunboat, allowing an easy missile+cannon combo. Would Tomax Bren be broken with it? You tell me. (if yes, I can restrict the upgrade to the Gunboat or just replace it with another card) The Gunboat is the most produced/deployed Imperial hyperspace capable starfighter, which I explored in the title: "Imperial Reinforcements". It adds an interesting mechanic, which really differentiates the Gunboat of the TIEs. Since the common TIEs had no hyperspace, and the high tech, hyperspace capable TIEs (Defender, Avenger), are so rare that wouldn't be available everywhere, that's the job of the Gunboats. It also emulates the massive military power of the Empire and remind the PC old sims (where the Imperials are able to call Gunboats as reinforcements).I don't know if the price is right (is deploying later, but where you want, actually a drawback?) Xeal is a colleague of Mareek Stele's who was MIA and later returned to action with "Killer Eyes". Noble Calder's ability is kind of uninspired, so suggestions are most welcome. Not many information about this guy, except that he was the commander of a squad (Veerpal?). Maybe he could be the lower PS unique pilot instead of Xeal (swap the PS of both).I added the other guy (Arajen Turmen) here, with a wonky ability, as an alternative. Mareek Stele piloted the Gunboat, but this wasn't one ship who made him famous (like the Defender, the Avenger and the Missile Boat). Possible pilots: (most in Legends)
- Gunboat generics (Squadrons): Nu, Tau, Mau, Mu, Rho, Eagle, Raven, Talon, Veerpal
- Gunboat uniques: Arajen Turmen, Noble Calder, Xeal (but not specially this ship), Mareek Stele
Alpha Strike would make Triple U Boat broken forever.
Imho, those Alpha Strike stuff would be a better fix for the poor Punisher, whose usability is near Fel's Wrath.
I somehow dislike how Integrated Ion Cannons are designed. I better like the Idea to have something like the Tie Defender D title.
So like a title: If a secondary weapon attack hits, you may perform a primary weapon attack on the same ship.
Or even: If the defender of your attack is assigned an ion token, perform a primary weapon attack on the same ship.
This would support Ion Cannons, Ion Puls Missiles and Ion Torps.
Thematically, I like the Imperial Reinforcements card very much. Its like the Imperial answer to old Han Solo.
Edited by TheRealStarkillerThe Punisher is very obscure. To the point that it was called the Interdictor in a different FFG product the same year.... however, since one key thing it came with was the Twin Ion Engines MkII card, at least part of the release required it to be a TIE fighter of one kind or another (since, if that was planned as a stage 1 defender 'fix', that card may well have been planned before the ship itself was settled on).
The Gunboat uses TIE engines... the card should be "Imperial, small ship only". Done! (no need for the freaking TIE Punisher in the first place)
Something that occurred to me in my daily visit here.
Star Wars is fueled by nostalgia, south park underscored that well enough with the memberberries.
Even rogue one we're like "member Tarkin, member the Tantive IV, member the Deathstar -I member!"
The 90's era games are of course going to be a huge part of that nostalgic experience. As are the books.
In regards to a licensed game that is literally all about the ships from this universe - which again I reckon is 100% fueled by nostalgia, ships from those games have absolute merit. From the transport lander in rogue one, to the sentinel shuttle from the remasterd ANH, to Cargo Ferries (I member cargo ferries!) and of course, my pet DX-9 and this thread, and indeed this communities mascot for ship that needs to be added in game - the XG-1.
Edited by DariusAPBOK, one more update to the Gunboat.

Alpha Strike can't help U-Boats anymore.

Alpha Strike can't help U-Boats anymore.
Crisis averted.
Btw,what program is everyone using to make these swag custom cards?
Indeed. FFG has used Star Wars Galaxies a lot for inspiration - but, to be fair, there weren't many scum small ships without the Hutt stuff - certainly not ones that aren't just stolen rebel ships - aside from the Starviper. But they've also pulled quite a few pilots from it for other factions (Storm Squadron, Lieutenant Colzet and Commander Alozen are all the imperial Tatooine fighter garrison from Galaxies, for example).
Star Wars Galaxies is the best inspiration. (It did drop the ball on including this gunboat, but had a sweet gunship.)

Usually Strange Aeons, although some use homemade templates.

I use Photoshop. Yes, I do it the hard way.
(but Strange Eons is great)

I buy Army Painter.
The YT-2400, A( got a cameo in one of the Special Editions of the OT, and B( was part of Shadows of the Empire - which was a big media push back in the day, comics, game and novel.
The YT-2400 - and Dash Rendar - also appeared alongside the Holy Bungoat in X-Wing: Alliance. In fact, I just helped him capture the Suprosa...

There were a few. Cloakshape is the obvious one, but also the Preybird. In fact, the Cloakshape actually made it into the old Wizards of the Coast miniatures game.

Oh god that mission SUCKS! Also, bothans flying Y-WIngs as the way to explain the spies that died also sucks.

"Many bothans. Well. A few bothans. A handful. Like, 12"
A lot more died in the following mission, IIRC. Once the Executor turns up.
My headcanon for "Many Bothans" is that the bothan spynet tried a "information wants to be free, they cant kill us all" solution for getting out the deathstar plans, and they were almost wrong.
Could be worse. Could have been Manny Both-Hanz.
Obviously, the many bothans will be covered in Rogue Two - Bothan Boogaloo.
Don't let the Gunboat thread fall! We must keep this at the forefront of the forums for all to see.
'Member how the Y and B Wings were better dogfighters than the A and X because you could ion the Gunboats to keep new waves from coming in?
'Member how you could tell your wing man 30 times to ignore the disabled Gunboat and eventually he would still go and blow it up while there were 15 Interceptors swarming you?
'Member hitting Shift-W to get your wing man killed so he wouldn't do it again?
Gunboats were in the same 'boat' as Ys and Bs when it came to ionizing ships and hoping they were ignored. Imperials listen about as well as rebels it seems.

Funny how they had to use Y-wings when any other ships could have been used, or totally new ships could have been introduced. Or the Bothans could have actually, you know, done real spy stuff instead of being fighter jockies.
Also Darius I'm going to just find 5 posts of yours to like because I can't like that link of yours 5 times. I've been wanting an updated version of X-Wing for over a decade. Wonder if they'll do the same for TIE Fighter?
They have updated their FAQ about doing TIE Fighter. It seems that once they are happy with everything they want to improve with X-Wing, the differences between its engine and TIE Fighter's will not be so many, and then they will be able to start working on it.
Sorry for the offtopic.
